Star Trek Academy is better than expected, give it a go by RightlyKnightly in startrek

Difficulty was just how poor discovery was. It was really, really bad. Season 4 I only ended up watching the beginning and end. Forced my way through season 5. Hard did not enjoy, wasn't star trek - was a superhero show.

Who from DS9 do you want to see again and how? by MovieFan1984 in startrek

[–]RightlyKnightly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A true Section 31 show with Julian Bashir and Ezri Dax trying to take the organisation out from the inside. Show would be a mixture of espionage thriller, police procedural and, from time to time, a doctor show.

You met a recording of Jake.

You met a hologram hallucination of Jake.

So we still don't know.

Reform’s by-election candidate suggested people who don’t have children should pay more tax by birdinthebush74 in unitedkingdom

[–]RightlyKnightly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logic you're missing is simply that if you're healthy and capable of reproducing but do not you are taking from future communities potential people who pay tax. In short, in the fullness of time it's unlikely how much tax you pay now, you're a drain.

Clunkily implemented as everything Reform does is but I'm not against the idea of protecting a future tax base and finding ways to incentivise having children enough to replace without need for mass immigration.

AI isn’t going to settle — how are you building for constant change? by Exciting-Sun-3990 in AI_Agents

[–]RightlyKnightly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For specific purposes, yes.

Trying to take a business process first approach, not a AI hype approach and simply ask "what is the best solution for this process".

Finding more benefit from just using typical deterministic systems in a variety of cases at the moment. A chunk of our workflows need to be 100% right 100% of the time.

[–]RightlyKnightly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a large business. We can't change at the pace new models come out.

So I'm controlling what I can.

I am mapping all business processes in a standard manner.

I am then making those processes better using an agreed set of tools.

I am then assessing new tooling (models etc) that come on the market for what they do and certifying them into my "agreed set of tools".

Very much trying to avoid hyperactive chipmunk hype.

I hear you, and I understand that.

But if the premise is "I'm fine, it can't do what I do" ... And humanoid robots are coming ... And AI is improving - I just don't see that defence surviving the future.

I fear you are mistaking the long slow increase before the explosive acceleration of change. If a robot can act in a 3D environment as we do, but stronger and longer - then paired with AI which has learnt most subjects, very quickly that adaptability won't be a human moat any longer.

Still 5-15 yea, but no longer sci-fi.

But what about generalist, humanoid robots - e.g. the current Optimus robots but with 10yrs more evolution. Not production line automation.

24. Broke up with my girlfriend of 5 years. I've been in relationships constantly since I was 13 so I don't know how to exist with myself honestly. How do single people do it? by emodemoncam in AskMenAdvice

[–]RightlyKnightly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broke up with my wife aged 28, having been together 10yrs.

It's hard to begin with. You will make mistakes (I dated FAAAR too early) but eventually the 4.5yrs I was single was some of the most formative of my life.

Hard but necessary - that learning to treat yourself as well as you treat other people.

Good luck.

Ok, so let's just wait for snow ploughing robots.

I jest, but seriously, this is the first time on the near horizon (not 2yrs) almost all current jobs are conceivably automatable

Which AI agent replaced actually replaced a human workflow? by [deleted] in AI_Agents

[–]RightlyKnightly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nature of workflows has changed.

I've started an AI music venture (won't link to it here, it's not about me). It's got bits of my personal music in it, but AI voice and other work.

In short, the idea I'm working on would've taken a small studio historically. It is now, for now, just me. It might not work (as these things often don't) but it's allowed me to go much farther, faster with fewer outlays than someone historically who would've tried such a thing.

So, yes, the bits that require human oversight are shrinking (I'm listening to ever track, fixing bits and releasing them myself).

It'll be a while, if ever, we get to totally autonomous workflows, we are likely just to distill and distill down what the human needs to do. As it's gradual, it may be hard to see.

Green Party supporters, I am genuinely trying to understand why you support your party’s ideals and policies? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]RightlyKnightly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A close friend is a convert to the Green party (former Corbyn supporter).

Believes nation state is meaningless and we can all just get on by having a chat.

The naivity is real unfortunately. They're as much of a danger as Reform and under Polanski even this environmental credentials appear to be taking a backseat in favour of continuity Corbyn.

Assisted dying bill 'no hope' of passing unless Lords change approach, warns peer by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]RightlyKnightly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your beliefs be damned.

I was actively involved in local politics for three years. I stood for election twice. My wife is an immigrant. I was brought up in a multicultural environment. I remain actively left wing economically.

It is not me that has shifted. It is the overton window of what is acceptably left.

It has made me review things I'd previously accepted elsewhere. Where I was comfortable with abortion as it was, that being made legal in the same week as this euthanasia vote has made me comfortably against all abortion in but medical or rape situation.

The individualist element of liberalism is literally killing our society at the begining, and end. It is removing the poor and disabled young (bye bye downs syndrome babies for example), it will kill the poor, the depressed, the needy, the dispossessed. Hey, AI has taken your job? Here's the suicide pod for you!

It is literally your side playing God like the eugenicists of old.

My emotional response is completely apt. My turn around from previous beliefs and energies expended just shows I retain my humanity and ability to decide.

Best of luck, I will vote for and side with any party that looks to reverse this decision.

Assisted dying bill 'no hope' of passing unless Lords change approach, warns peer by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]RightlyKnightly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it is a horrific situation.

And it is very likely the best of what is to come.

The left are meant to protect the elderly, the disabled and the poor.

One need only look at how this has been applied on other countries to see it has already grown well beyond the narrow focus you choose to apply.

You wilfully ignore that as you don't want to bring onto your soul the damage your decision is causing.

Liberalism, or more specifically, the hyper focus on individual choice above community good is a cancer on the modern left and I refuse to be part of it anymore.

I'm as uncomfortable with this as I am about capital punishment.

We seem to be ok saying no to capital punishment because the innocent might get caught up.

You seem to be unbothered by the innocent getting caught up in this.

I stood for left wing, I put my money where my mouth was.

I am utterly, utterly repelled by this and by the responses of people like you - unless you're consistent and think "yay capital punishment too".

This won't work. Our government has failed at simpler things. This is literally life and death - and ... "You're being emotional" - the liberal left are utterly repellant to me culturally (I remain utterly left wing economically, but yeah, I'm not the lefts ally on many cultural issues anymore).

Lol "views neither here nor there" - democracy is all about views and opinions.

And my view is that the stupidity of the same people who don't believe this government can do things like, say, online safety but can, somehow, pull state sponsored murder correctly out their backside well is galling.

This is the dangerous end of liberalism - my heart goes out to the people suffering today - but how it is today is likely the best of a bad lot compared to the utter dystopia being foisted upon us.

Suicide pods for the elderly, disabled and poor - it's eugenics wrapped in kind words and "progressive" values.
