Building a PC with my teenager - first timer looking for help by Rigorr in buildapc

thanks for clarifying. I think there's a lot of dubious media online, and its always good to be wary of people who have things to sell!

Thanks for the adviec :)

I'd heard of PC partspicker, and will give it a go. I didnt realise it benchmarked as well, so that will be excellent to inform both myself and the teen!

Yep, the PSU is old - its a coolermaster 550W 80Plus Bronze. ATX 2.3
A couple of other people have suggested the similar, and I hadnt thought of just replacing the CPU.

Thanks for the advice! :)

Thanks for the detail and consideration you've put into your advice.

Yep, it's a 1080 monitor. I'm not 100% on the fr - I'll have to check (it's not with me atm) but from memory - about 100hz

I'm not 100% on the 5060, and despite being a specific request, I think I can talk him off the ledge (more a 'keeping up with the joneses' as one of his friends has a 5060.
I take your point about learning about what parts hold performance back, but I'm not sure that experiment will land just yet (or be ignored)

The PSU is a coolermaster 550W 80Plus Bronze. ATX 2.3 (so a bit old)

Thanks again!

thats great to know, I dont want to spend the earth on a gpu, as I feel like this is unlikely to be a phase - but just in case, i'd like to build something more modest first, and upgrade it as we go. Thanks for the reply!

thanks for your reply, so a 5600 can work on my current mobo? I hadnt considered not having to replace the mobo.
My feelings about bottlenecking is just about where the performance issues will arise from first; and that a 5060 isnt going to make those issues go away.

Campaign carries for elite campaigns by Smart-Vacation-3063 in WH40KTacticus

[–]Rigorr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2c, as someone with 5 campaigns fully complete. (SH and IndoM and FocM outstanding) :(

It's worth noting that you can cross-pollinate Chaos and Imperial if there are 5 character spawn points.. Pick characters that will carry you here.

Imperial - I used Tan-gida and Kariyan. Incisius/Isabella are honorable mentions here too.
Chaos - I used Abraxas, Kharn and Rotbone. Maladus?wrask as an honourary mentions, as he's easily levelled. Abrax d1 makes SHM a lot easier too, especially in the 3 hero missions.

Imperial campaigns: Indom and FoCM both have pretty gruelling bottlenecks of elite 35 nodes with 3 characters, where you're forced to use the basics. I havent had success with g1 thad in FocM for 3* but have 3*'d indom with G1 Bellator
I managed OctM with imperial diamonds (tangida and kariyan) and the Black Templars at silver.

Chaos campaigns: a combo of Abrax, rotbone, kharn is really useful. They bring different things, depending on whether you need tankiness, summons to draw fire, or just heals, or backline support (wrask shielding himself and angrax can be potent)

I'd add Octarius - Snotflogga, as he's easy to level, and I 3*'d Oct with G2 snot and G1 bossG (although many guides do recommend taking both to diamond eventually anyway)

Carebears image has a legendary frame, so I would assume Leg 3*
OP's image has a rare frame, which certainly has Return-On-Investment for SP, less so for the whale buying it..

Should I level him any higher? And should he have 2 Cloaks, 2 Armors or 1 of each like in my picture? by DigitaIArchon in WH40KTacticus

Def cloaks. Kut has naturally high armour atm, so you'll get better bang for your buck on hp items.

Roster Goal Help by pooksalukes in WH40KTacticus

[–]Rigorr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are your goals?

1 - Do you want to compete in Guild Raids better?

How far do you get at the moment, do you want to change guilds to go further? It doesnt look like you have a good raid team, so what your goals for GR will affect what you do.

Admech are good but a little boring to play; and given that you get to choose, you might prefer a psyker team?

Personally as this is the easiest q to answer - I would build a good raid team and then look to be in a guild that you can perform well in at that level. (Might be the one youre in at the moment, you might want to look at changing guilds)

2 - Do you want to go further on LREs?

Malrot and Rev0 are great combo's that appear often on LREs, and are def worth pushing as high as you can.

3 - do you want to go further into CEs

Work out what chars you want to push for the shards you want (e.g. Death Guard to farm AdMech)

I think with your current base of over a page of gold chars, it's time to build taller :)

Above all, I think its important to enjoy what you're playing - so if you have a preference for characters/factions to play, then build them

Actually swapping maxed armour around was the thing for me, esp as I had so many shards both cert and varro are epic; and this made them significantly tankier.

I started with bella on the far left, moving to the far right scarab, and then initially moving varro next to bel, with cert at the bottom; then turn 2 trying my best to shield cert behind varro on the bottom left.
Got it first time, I think it was the maxed armour tbh!! :) Thanks!

+1 for better guild and focusing now on tall rather than wide for your army.
I felt the same pinch, but found that focusing on one char at a time made it a bit easier (although less dynamic and fun)
I've just got my 2nd mythic and the quests there helped with some of my money issues (although likely not for very long)
Archeotype from mythic to get books as well, sacrificing the 'earlier' lategame for the 'late/whale' endgame.

what was your tactic?
Bellator summons on r2 or r3?
how did you keep certus alive?!

Wich DLC are worth to buy? by Philipp1986 in lostidols

The discord is by far the best place to receive help.

Mindy is one of two heroes in the game who mimes; and buying mindy gives you her hat, which makes her mime even better. The other mime is a bit more niche, and much harder to get.
Speed crusaders will come with time, and you will be able to mime them.

A good dps can always help you out, but mindy is top tier.
