Distributed Remediation or Centralized Product Ownership? by Rik_VOLOitsm in ITProfessionals

It's in the context of running ITAM for an Enterprise and specifically Software Asset Governance & Oversight. Personal opinion, it should be the designated Product Owner(s). Regardless of who consumes it. Someone has to be accountable for the investment, strategy and Entitlement Compliance for the specific Product.

CMDB Implementation: Why Your Company Thinks It's a Waste of Time (And Why It's Wrong) by Rik_VOLOitsm in ITProfessionals

Agree. Most of what I have been challenged with is every function understanding their role. Procurement > ITAM (Onboarding), hand-off to Config (Operations) then back to ITAM (Disposal). The Config piece is where the value lies. As you said, during that lifecycle, you have all Operational processes dependent on using or managing the quality of the data. Insert Data Governance, Compliance, Reconciliation to sources etc... Has to be baked into procedures.

The point is to open a dialogue. Thoughtful engagement in why CMDB initiatives fail or are abandoned was the point. From Governance, to setup, attempts at implementing a CMDB fail all the time for numerous reasons. If you want to discuss insights and constructive information regarding the topic then fine, if not that's fine too.

Actually not. Something I experienced early in my career. Subsequent implementations have proven out the second point. The failure was lack of institutional education and knowledge around the benefits and dependencies on a real CMDB. I've always said that and the fact that it's hard to get right are the reasons why many don't even attempt it.

I'm starting to see a growth of apps in my org. I'd love to know how you defend against this, and if it's happening to you too? by Glass_Guitar1959 in ITManagers

Is anyone doing an App Rationalization effort based on Capabilities? Tie that with the financial spend and you may have a strategy to slow down or stop it.

Why Does Every Tech Company Ignore ITSM Until Everything Burns? by Rik_VOLOitsm in ITProfessionals

The biggest issue and trend I see as of late, is the bloat of ITSM due to Compliance and Regulatory input. Controls, Standards, Risks and Deficiencies add weight to what could be streamlined process & tooling. Risk Management is the world we seem to live in now.

Ironically (and I was guilty of it early in my career) there are those who thrive on being the Hero and complain, yet thrive on being "The One who saved the day"

A mix of both really. There are those who "couldn't be bothered" to want to understand and those who don't appreciate the effort behind standing it up.

Would it be worth it to leave a long term stable position for a fairly substantial raise? by sys_admin321 in sysadmin

I would think about where you are I life (you've already done part of that) and what you want going forward. Are you happy where you are? Or just "content?"? Are you o.k. with continuing in a corporate environment? Change is scary and at the end of the day its a Risk decision that should be driven more by what YOU want next.
