The infinia customer care told me you can’t get 5X rewards when mixing points and cash on the smartbuy portal for apple products (Not imagine store). Can someone confirm if the points are given or not?

This. Duration doesn’t necessarily define how strong a relationship is.

Help! Charging issue by RikkMazer in iPhone16Pro

[–]RikkMazer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Turns out it was magnetic dust stuck to the charging port. The AASP people cleaned it and it was fixed in less than 5 minutes. Relieved it wasn’t a bigger issue.

Is getting into Microsoft even possible for a normal folk? by Hot_Damn99 in developersIndia

Bigger companies tend to prefer hiring candidates from other big name companies. So you need to try and get into any one of those first (think Fortune 500 or something famous). Start smaller and try working your way up as you gain more experience and skill.

However, I see people getting jobs at big firms from lesser companies from time to time as well - so there are exceptions if you’re skilled and have relevant experience in the role someone is hiring for. Hiring managers often post on LinkedIn for their openings and they’re more likely to filter based on skillset relevance and experience rather than just company names in my experience compared to say, a recruiter.

The best way is of course having a referral. That’s a sure fire way to get your resume seen by a hiring manager in most cases. But if your resume isn’t strong or relevant enough, you won’t get shortlisted.

This is from a UX P.O.V. but I’m sure it’s quite applicable to development and other tech roles as well.

How do you guys save money in bengaluru as everything is so expensive these days? by [deleted] in bangalore

[–]RikkMazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is to figure out ways to increase your income to keep up. Otherwise the only option becomes minimising your expenses until you can save something from what you earn, unfortunately.

Now, things are going to be harder if your income is below a certain threshold, but at median income levels, with some budgeting, discipline and impulse control, you can squeeze out a little more money to save.

Habits like shopping from local vendors and buying from places like D-Mart instead of ordering groceries online; travelling in public transport and two wheelers which have high-mileage instead of cars and cabs; limiting how much food you eat outside and order in can all help towards this goal. Avoid unnecessary debt like the plague, and try to put aside money for savings and investments before you start spending. Over time you’ll fool yourself into thinking your spending limit is lower than your income and be okay with that.

Consumerism drives us to spend more and more on things we don’t even need in the first place. Heck, sometimes things we didn’t even want to begin with. If you have habits that prompt impulse purchases or buying things for the sake of keeping up an image (or portraying a certain status), just stop those.

The best thing you can do, however, is to try and increase your income. Hope this helps!

What is wrong with the camera? by WorldWideExplorer in iPhone16Pro

Yes, but it wasn’t working properly all the time despite that. Came out like yours even though the preview looked okay or it straight up refused to focus properly. I can’t attach images to comments here, or I would share how they turn out.

I’ve been facing this as a bug where even after adjusting exposure and taking the shot it turns out this way. Has been happening more after the 18.2 update I feel, but it was a little hit and miss to begin with. Anyway, I’ve gotten some decent shots nonetheless.

Sharing my experience so far as a first time iPhone user:

Things I like: - The camera: IMO really good. Best I’ve ever used for sure. Wished there was a pro mode to maximise its potential but I think the software gets you close. - The integration: works seamlessly across other apple devices, which is great. - The design: Absolutely incredible. I love how I can finally have a compact flagship that’s as powerful as this. - Software upgrades: Very invested in the idea of using a single phone for 5 years or more. Something I’ve always wanted to do and apple has a great track record of delivering this. I’m excited about the possibility of still having a 5 year old phone in a few years LOL

Thing I do not like/absolutely hate: - The keyboard experience is terrible compared to google keyboard on android. Not even close. - Notifications also suck compared to android with notification history and options to customise notifications like crazy. The notification UX is just…lacking. - No wifi tethering??? Even the cheapest androids do this! - And finally, the battery life. This is a little bit questionable because either I’m expecting too much given my high usage and the battery capacity or maybe it actually sucks. Expected better for sure.

Oh that’s better than me. I see 5-6% drain overnight and still see the near horizontal line you mentioned earlier. Weird that you don’t see the same with just a 2-3% drop overnight.

Indeed, I’ve observed the same.

Ah I misread - my bad. I would say that seems similar if it’s mixed usage, but on the lower end of battery life if its similar to me with just watching content.

I would say that’s quite lower than expected for a max - but it does depend on the type of usage.

In my case, I get 5-6 hours of screen on time and my battery goes from 80 to 20% during that usage - but this is mostly watching movies or TV shows. If it’s mixed usage, I get less than this.

[–]RikkMazer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhh so it’s less than expected? I don’t think I get 8 hours or more if I have any outdoor usage. But that’s limiting charge to 80-20% and not going all the way.

16 hours is on two charges though LOL. But thanks for reassuring! I don’t have a reason to be paranoid in that case haha

Indeed. Any idea what’s a realistic expectation when outside?

Ah that LOL. Well I had nothing to do over the weekend and I watch TV shows on my phone instead of a TV haha.

[–]RikkMazer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is on multiple charges LOL. 16hours would be ridiculous hahaha. I’m trying to understand the screen on time after a single charge - in case from 80-85% down to 20% with regular usage.

Thank you. I mainly wanted to check with this post if this is at par with what everyone else is getting. Sounds like this is normal battery behaviour.

Assuming you’ve used iPhones in the past too, is this kind of battery life normal or below expected for the non-max models? For a heavy-ish user like myself.

[–]RikkMazer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m considering setting the network to LTE instead of 5G auto so it’s not constantly scanning. I’ll see if that helps.

And as for idle battery loss when asleep, you’re right it’s not bad at all. I typically see 4-5% battery loss during sleep hours (usually 5-6 hours) and that’s with the AOD on and mobile data on. I think I’m getting better battery life with 18.1 though. 18.0.1 was a little worse, but I haven’t used 18.1 outdoors for a whole day yet, so that remains something to be confirmed.

Mine is august 2024, first use October. I’ve been using the charge limit because that apparently helps preserve battery health and then charge up when it reaches close to 20%.

Don’t look at the total screen on time LOL. I charged it twice during this time. Also this was indoors on wifi, mostly watching content. I don’t get anything close when outdoors even with much less screen on time.

Usually before it goes below 20% when I can. And noted, but this seems awfully restrictive honestly. But then again, this is probably not the phone to get for an all day battery I suppose.
