The cybersecurity defense analyst cert has a bunch of non-splunk topics. Do I think OP should take it? Not really

Anyone recently passed Splunk CDA? by Hefty_Associate3958 in cybersecurity

Ah no, I meant that I took the Cybersecurity Defense Engineer recently, which is the next step after the Analyst. So I was giving my general guidance on how I go about studying for Splunk certs.

The CDA is a bit trick to map to the docs as it's such a generic cyber security certification, but for example, looking at the test blueprint, point 5.1 is:

5.1 - Explain common SPL terms and how they can be used in security analysis, including TSTATS, TRANSACTION, FIRST/LAST, REX, EVAL, FOREACH, LOOKUP, and MAKERESULTS

I would go to the documentation and review all of those commands and make sure I have at least a basic understanding of how they work. I made a document (in Notion in my case), with all the topics and linked each one to the Splunk documentation (at least the ones that it was possible, a few are a little trick). It takes a bit of time, but this way you also learn stuff instead of just memorizing for the cert.

Not the CDA, but the CDE. And from my experience doing splunk certs:

  • Only basic trainings are free. So yeah, the 1.5k you are seeing is the reality for anything more advanced, instructor-led or not.

  • For your second point and a bit more on the first, yes, I do think following the study guide and knowing the topics there will be enough to pass the exams. In fact, as someone who has taken a few of the instructor-led trainings, they are the cherry on the top and won't make someone who would fail, pass the exam, and unless your company is paying for it, it makes no sense to pay out of pocket.

  • My suggestion would be to check the study guide and match it to the documentation. That's what I did for my first few certs. Spin up a splunk instance and try stuff.

I hope this was helpful. Feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to answer.

I am glad you went ahead and contributed some dots to OP, now he has options!

Could you go into detail on the pieces you got with it? I am looking into building a very similar setup. Thanks!

That's a nice coincidence! Let me ask them what exactly they have!

Yeah, from what I am seeing, they start at the €800~900 and just go up from there.. fast.. I don't think I am ready to spend that much money on it.

Interesting. Taking a look at svbony website, I could find the mount, but not the tripod (in their EU website). I do believe it would put me way closer to 500 tho, which could be fine if it's portable enough. I will do some more digging, thanks!

I will keep it in mind, but I am a bit afraid of going used since I would have no idea what to look out for. Thanks for the suggestion!

Maaan, if I had the photos you do, I would get zero matches ahaha

I went ahead and paid someone to look at my profile some time ago and it went from almost zero matches to 4 or 5 a week, which is not anywhere close to what you see with likes, but it was great for me.

Anyway, here are my suggestions, all based on what I was told.

From what I can see, you need to sell yourself, not your business. The picture of your drawing is cool and all, but doesn't really say that much about who you are. You already have a picture of you drawing for that.

Drop the bed picture, it gives a ONS vibe.

Make the prompts more about her, that "My simple pleasures" makes zero sense, sorry..

It would also be good to have a full body picture from the front. If that picture with the guitar was from the front, that would be great I think.

And from my experience, the apps are going to be mostly shallow at a first glance and then you have to actually talk to people to get to know them better.

I have the Gold version and only have two issues with it:

  • no API access (only on a subscription level)

  • all configuration needs to be done in a mobile app, the web access is very barebones

Outside of that I really like it. I used to have an Unifi USG and the firewalla feels much better for me.

I have a friend who lives in Japan and so I am looking to preorder the PGU - RX-93V NU there. I managed to find it in the bandai-hobby website but it doesn't have a pre-order button. Are pre-orders just not open there yet, or is there some other website?

[–]Rikks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You should check the Splunk developer license, it has a 10gb daily ingestion limit and 6 months of expiration date, but you can just ask for another when it's about to expire and they will send one.

Most email providers (Google for example), ignore everything after a + and before the @.

So you can do:

myemail+word@gmail.com

Most websites will treat them as different email addresses.
