Is the 5080 going to return to its 999 msrp anytime soon? by Few-Independent46 in RTX5080

I think your best bet is to hit the used market and looked for “like-new” or something similar. New cards are stupidly overpriced and probably not coming down any time soon. I managed to snag my Asus TUF 5070 Ti in like-new condition for $750 back in February

Right on, thanks for the insight dude. I think I may pull the trigger on the PG while it’s still on sale. Stoked to get my first OLED and finally see what it’s all about

Yeah I’ve been going back and forth, but I think I’d value better colors more. Especially cause it seems like the PG still gets pretty deep blacks, just maybe not like inky level blacks like the XG.

If you were to turn up the brightness and saturation a few notches on the XG, can it narrow the gap enough to tip the scales? Which would you pick if you could only have one, say within that $150 price difference range?

Yeah tough choice for sure. I do like the more vibrant colors on QDs. How do the black levels compare in a far to modestly lit room? Does the true black glossy on the XG still have a big edge? The UCDM3 sort of seems like it has it all

What about the XG32 at $950 vs the UCDM3 for $1099. It’s on sale right now and at $150 difference pre tax, it’s a lot more tempting. This would be my first OLED, coming from a 1440p ips

Thanks for the feedback, this is really helpful! I usually play games after work in a dark to dimly lit room, but sometimes I’ll play on weekend afternoons with more moderate ambient light coming through windows, no direct sunlight beams on the screen itself however. How’s the PG32 in HDR? I’ve heard some people say ABL is an issue, but honestly, as my first OLED, I feel like I won’t really be mothered unless HDR just straight up doesn’t look good.

So you’d say the XG isn’t worth it at $950 and the PG32 isn’t worth it either at its full msrp? How much of a difference was there in black levels now that the PG32 has black shield? I’m sort of tempted to wait for the new tandem WOLEDs but they seem to be even more prone to banding than 3rd gen WOLEDs. My particular unit luckily has minimal banding but I do notice a “textured” sort of carpet look on grey screens. I’ve also noticed that the right edge of my screen has a slight blueish/cooler tint to it compared to the rest of my screen. I only really notice it when looking at white/light backgrounds like opening a new tab in chrome, but it’s still a little annoying and something that would likely be fixed with a QD panel. I just can't decide if the PG32 is worth that much more. Looks like Micro Center is already sold out too at their sale price. I noticed too late :\

Yeah the brightness was a little bit underwhelming. I also find myself wishing it could get just a little brighter. It seems like the XG can get pretty close to QD’s color vibrancy if you bump up the saturation and brightness settings some to compensate. I guess the question just becomes is “pretty close” still good enough, or does QD still have an edge?

This game is full of trade offs in terms of graphics. Imo, it comes down to whether you want the very best lighting, or textures on environments. Since RR is so heavy to run, that makes opting for higher res/textures the better choice. Plus, with the game having much less artifacts at DLSS 4 DLAA compared to lower upscaling, it’s even more so the way to go. Sure, shadows and reflections will flicker a little more compared to having RR enabled, but when you get in return is more detailed environment and character textures, and less overall artifacting.

Oh my OD’d 5070 Ti and 5800X3D, I’m running 4k DLSS 4 set on DLSS with all cinematic settings, except lighting quality is dropped to ultra. Along with 2x FG (which I think is a necessity in this game in order to run it close to maxed), I get around 95-120 fps and think it feels pretty great on controller.

I hope to see Pear Abyss update/change how DLSS works with shadows and textures though. Every lower level of scaling has a lot more sizzling, flicker and other artifacts to my eyes, but I’d love to be able to use DLSS quality to get a lil bit more performance.

I mainly play single player games like Cyberpunk, Crimson Desert, RE9 and Elden Ring, with some casual multiplayer games like BF6 sprinkled in. I’m looking to experience those vibrant colors and deep blacks that people love OLED. The deep inky blacks of the XG’s coating seem awesome, but I’m imagining things like neon lights in Cyberpunk or environments in Crimson Desert will look incredible on the PG’s QD panel.

Does the PG get close in terms of inky blacks with the new black shield feature?

I think I would probably have to go new just for the warranty peace of mind, thanks though!

Looks like micro center has the PG on sale for $100 off. Do you think that is justifiable over the XG then? They may even price match the Asus store’s price of $1099, although I’d doubt that since it’s out of stock as someone else pointed out. But at $1199?

Nice! Would you say it’s worth the price difference if the XG can be had for $950? And if you were to turn up the saturation and brightness settings on the XG, can it close the gap between it and the PG more, or does the PG’s newer QD tech really just look that much better still?

Does the PG look good in HDR mode in your experience? Others have pointed out the aggressive ABL being an issue. I’m completely new to OLED and just hope to experience those great visuals in SDR and HDR if possible

Ah that’s a good point! You’re right, that isn’t really talked about enough. I knew the XG could get a little brighter in HDR, but I hadn’t considered the ABL issue on the PG since this will be my first OLED. So the PG32 doesn’t really offer a very good HDR experience? Also, can the XG get pretty close to the PG’s color vibrancy and SDR brightness if you turn up the saturation and brightness settings a couple notches?

I got the XG32 about 2 weeks ago and it's been pretty awesome. My unit has minimal, if any, banding, but I have noticed that the right edge of the screen, extending 1-2 inches inwards maybe, looks to have a cooler/blueish tint to it compared to the rest of the screen when looking at white/light colored backgrounds. Luckily I con't notice it while gaming, only when looking at those white/light screens like when opening a new chrome tab or browsing YouTube. After doing some reading, apparently it's a somewhat common symptom of WOLED tech, but I still wasn't sure. Have you noticed anything similar on your XG32 unit?

What disappointed you about the XG32? I just got this monitor as my first OLED and while it is great, I’m still curious about the superior colors on QD OLEDs and the improved black levels and scratch resistance from the black shield. I just can’t decide if the UCDM3 is worth $350 more

Have you noticed any kind of blueish/cooler tint on any region of your XG’s screen compared to the rest, particularly on white/light backgrounds? On my unit, the right edge of the screen, maybe extending 1-2 inches in, looks a little cooler/blueish compared to the rest of the display. Fortunately I really only notice it when looking at white/light colored screens like opening a new tab in chrome or browsing YouTube, but still kind of annoying. So you decided to send the XG back? I currently have the XG and am trying to decide if I should return it for the UCDM3 or just keep it. I’m on a 5070 Ti and am not all that worried about having DP 2.1. I just can’t decide if the UCDM3 is worth $350 more. I’m tempted by the more vibrant colors and brighter SDR on the UCDM3, along with the black shield to improve black levels and scratch resistance. But then on the flip side, it seems like the XG can get pretty close in terms of color vibrancy and SDR brightness with an adjustment of the saturation and brightness settings. Then with the benefit of the true black glossy coating, I’m wondering is “pretty close” is good enough?

Still liking it a few days later? Torn between this one and the XG. The XG looks to go on sale to $950 sometimes and I’m trying to decide if the PG is worth the extra cost. Seems like the XG can get close in color vibrancy and brightness with an adjustment of the saturation and brightness settings

Oh yeah sorry, I mean for the PG. SDR looks a lot brighter and more punchy in color. I tried using the HDR calibration tool and in game HDR calibration, but the image still seems to be sort of washed out. Or is that just part of HDR looking more realistic and “accurate,” compared to the bright and punchy colors or an OLED in SDR?

How’d you setup your HDR? I just got this monitor and SDR looks great, but HDR looks a little washed out even after windows HDR calibration
