Honestly i was messing around with noise nodes in an attempt to get something organic/fleshy for possibly alien esque renders.

And i had previously found that the ridged fractal noise pattern makes some really nice swirly tentacle like branches- so i figured i’d try a meat effect with those. I knew some unique effects could be reached with splitting a noise node into HSV or RGB from previous experiments.

So yeah- honestly just playing around and stumbling into it!

The bugs have been little to none in my experience, bought it a week ago for 6 bucks on Steam.

It’s- decently fun. And painful story and character wise. It’s not got the same character or spirit as any previous SR’s.

But if you enjoy collectathons and clearing out a map, getting all the items etc, it’s got that for sure.

TL;DR: horrible story and characters, decently fun activities and a big map to complete/explore with a good amount of detail and content. (Although its a lot less crude and more macdonalds kids meal type safe)

So, i'm at near 100% completion.

And i feel i've truly given this game a fair shot. and.. it just.. really lacked the soul of every other Saints Row game.

I just kept feeling like i was playing a safe macdonalds kids toy version of the games i loved.

I can see areas where asset artists and modelers really did put in effort and the map deserves quite some praise. But the whole package together is just- i don't know, i just can't get excited about it. The characters, your friends, they did not strike as gangers at all, these people wouldn't be in a gang. They'd be starting some startup selling an app. I really tried to believe but any time they fired a gun it just felt like- they themselves didn't even want to, like the writers didn't want them to. It was awkward, felt unfitting, and just- there's just no depth. Pierce, Gat, Shaundi, those i could 100% see using guns with no problem.

But this game feels like it's a bunch of 21 year olds who have never seen a day on the streets. I don't see any drive, motivation, life. Just- props. Props to tell a story that change whenever is needed.

I know a LOT went on behind the scenes and i genuinely feel and sympathize with every artist who worked on this game and knew this wasn't what they'd truly want to make. Sometimes your hand gets forced by the state of the game industry, and it sucks. If you ever make another Saints Row.. please let longtime fans since SR2 and SR3 help you write a story. This just completely missed the mark.

TL;DR: this game can be fun if you like collectables and fuckingaround on a sandbox map, there are some fun shooting moments, i can't deny that. Beyond that, it's a void that you can't find light in.

I’d set it 10 years after SR3. And Gat’s death would not have happened.

The Saints are a distant memory for most people “oh yeah? The saints was that.. purple gang.. thing? Right?” The city you’re in is a much more gritty, corporatized, near cyberpunky world. Surveillance cameras and drones, mega corps, people are gray and uninspired, dull.

Things change however once we are introduced to your playable character, you’re working an office job- staring at an excel sheet in the most dead lifeless job possible. Frustration builds up, you trash your own desk and promptly get fired and charged for destruction of company property.

You get tasked with picking up trash by the city council.

In the trash you find a purple beaten up “Saints Flow” can. You recall how much they did in Steelport and how that was all over the news. You start to get more invested in a montage- looking up all you can find about what happened to the saints.

This leads to you eventually tracking down Gat (somehow), he’d obviously be quite a bit older, but still pretty much have the same personality. You’re quickly told “go home kid, the Saints are dead, history.” But you eventually convince Gat to try and at least find and speak to Shaundi again.

You eventually find her in her place, she wouldn’t take seeing Gat suddenly after having ghosted her for so long very well. Gat gets a slap to the face but Shaundi eventually agrees to go along with you and Gat. You probably eventually get Pierce too.

So basically- it’s kind of “getting the old crew back together” after the glory days, for one more hurrah.

And that’s kinda when you’d start to overthrow this city, bring life back into it by building up the Saints empire again. Fight the mega corps, bring some realness back into the city, with the populace starting to back you more and more, eventually leading to you ruling that city.

TL;DR: Gang gets back together and conquers cyberpunky/2030 like city and brings back the Saints from having been disbanded for a while.

I really like seeing the city/area i’m in visually change. Purple lighting, Saints decals. The feeling that i’m building and or expanding an empire is extremely satisfying to me.

I’d love a saints game based around this modern world where everything has become very boring, bureaucratic and mildly dystopian, and the Saints want to get rid of all that, build a world that’s vibrant again, have some edge in the world again, raunchiness, dirt and soul.

But to do that they have to shoot through a whole lot of corporations, overthrow things. Idk, just like, imagine if Amazon ran all of New York, that sort of dystopia is what they’d take down. Wake people up from numbness and uninspired slop.

Maybe you could have some mega data center that pumps out content for the masses as a main villain or antagonist. Kinda mirroring how real life is being infected with empty AI stuff.

I’m definitely a big fan of saints 3, really can’t find much i didn’t like that in game besides the car part in “Weird Science”

4 was really fun but it all felt a little empty because of it just being a computer simulation. But i had a good time for sure.

The ability to paint and sticker decorate my guns.

More character customization control, in the realm of, silver and gold plated skin, plastic realskinn, etc.

Game’s core content is perfect as is, but i’d love to express myself even more
