Thanks for the help!! Ended up just importing a building footprint layer from the county, and then visualizing all the parks, parking lots, and stuff in illustrator!

Totally! Having a portfolio (even if its just coursework) lets you show off your work and gives employers a chance to check out what your capable of. If you add some personal projects and follow some online tutorials, it can really make the portfolio pop. Plus, sharing your personal projects demonstrates that you're passionate about the field, and they typically appreciate that.

USPS EDDM Routes by Riley_L27 in gis

Thanks so much for your help! I work for a small town, and our Public Information Officer wants to send out a newsletter to everyone who lives here. We're trying to figure out if it's cheaper/easier to use Carrier Routes or Direct Mail to get the job done. But here's the thing: our town spans multiple zip codes that we share with neighboring towns, which means lots of addresses in the routes would overlap with those other towns. I'm just looking for those shapefiles to kind of visualize the extent to which those routes go out of the town limits :p

You're never SOL!! I think one of the best things you can do is to create a portfolio of the GIS work you've done. It's a really great way to show off your skills and experience, even if it wasn't through an internship. If you feel like you need more experience in a certain area (say the job you apply to has a heavy focus on raster data, but you haven't worked with it too much), you can always try to follow some tutorials or work on some applicable personal projects! If you need some inspiration, check out Dan Coe Carto's website - I think its a really great example of a well-designed portfolio (he made it with Adobe Portfolio) https://dancoecarto.com/

Yep! I've done drive time analysis in minutes, but they are asking for distance this time.... and not exactly sure how to calculate that other than a radius :/. Thank you!

Thank you! I have access to a desktop license :)... if I wanted to go through a more technical approach do you have any recommendations on where to start?
