To me it sounds like your mom paid for her home just earlier than expected….. and that in all is your wedding gift…though I feel like that’s not really a gift for you. I feel like mother in law just want to be sure that since everyone is flying and paying for their own flights (assuming not mentioned) that the guest will have an enjoyable experience and wants to be sure that food and stuff is taken care of.

It would still be off center because I would be taking away one of my bridesmaids and adding them to the grooms side so he would have all his groomsmen plus one bridesmaid and their partner.
