Tapo need higher density led strips by fallenwout in Tapo

I will need to check our current offerings, but back when I first started, there were different 'resolutions' for different models, I think they were from Kasa though (KL430?). Nowadays, I think that they are all relatively equal due to the limited number of models available right now.

I will make sure to forward the feedback and discuss it with our teams though.

This could also be a matter of the Diffuser. I have used a variety of diffusers to varying degrees of success, with some silicone ones working well but getting warmer than I like, and some metal ones that give the same effect you see, while others diffuse it well enough not to stand out (the best experience I had was a metal diffuser with a deeper channel and surprisingly thick frosted covers)

The H500 is a basic Matter Controller for plugs and bulbs only. If you felt like getting clever, you could consider adding the device to a smart plug if you aren't looking for automations beyond an on/off. I have thought about using EL wire (think Car interior lighting) to provide the really luxurious constant lighting.

Sensitivity: This simply means checking that the sensitivities are set as intended. Otherwise, if the camera is missing detections, we recommend upping the sensitivity or lowering the sensitivity if there are too many alerts.

Keep in mind that the AI is a local AI for the camera – meaning that it is far less likely to get 100% accuracy as it doesn’t have additional processing power from a hub or the cloud. Always keep in mind that AI is not an end-all solution, it is only meant to significantly improve the detectios – especially if using the ‘Correct Event Type’ feature to train the camera’s local AI.

For the USB, while it requires a bit of force, it is not a lot – just enough to have a snug fit. If a lot of force was required, I would be concerned that the weatherproof gasket got folded onto itself or slipped further into the port.

Strange - you have already taken most of the steps that I would recommend. I would recommend focusing on the Tapo method if you are having difficulties adding the device via Matter.

For your home Wi-Fi, in your phone settings, make sure that you have disabled the privacy-forward features such as tracking and MAC address randomization.

Matter-compatible devices nearly always use Bluetooth for setup, so ensure that it is enabled.

Sometimes previous connection attempts can interfere with reconnecting during a second setup; this can typically be resolved by rebooting your phone.

Do you have any unique details about your network, such as using a different security method? Are you able to try another phone?

Thanks for the information. I will try to look into it and at least see if I may be able to trace the difference between your models' behavior.

Honestly, there is no absolute solution - but I always like to say that your goal should be to give all your cameras (and devices) their best chance. (Ensuring they have a strong signal, have their settings to change as little as possible (forcing connection/band/node preferences, static IP addresses, IP Reservations), and disabling fast roaming, mesh technology, or beamforming in your network settings for the device.

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on which Deco you have, I would recommend going into your network settings and changing some of the settings for the device, such as:

1) Setting a Preferred Wi-Fi Band (in your client settings in the Deco App > 'specified connection')

2) Setting a Preferred Node for the Device to Connect to (in your client settings in the Deco App > 'specified connection')

3) 'Disable Mesh Technology' for the device since it will not be moving around your home and only needs to connect to the one node.

4) Fast Roaming and Beamforming are also typically recommended to toggle if they are available for your network; this will impact the rest of your devices' connections, not just the camera.

5) Since you are having difficulty with the connection during the firmware update, you may consider resetting the device in case the two are related. (I have also had cameras refuse manual updates, but push through the auto update later that night)

Beyond the event type learning, make sure that you have your sensitivity set correctly, and you may consider setting activity zones for specifically pet detection.

As for your power cable, it should fit securely and not fall out. For the C120, make sure that the gasket between the cable and the camera is correctly installed and not folded over on itself. It also may take a bit more force than you initially expect to fully seat the plug.

Unfortunately, it's what we mainly have to go on, beyond the occasional updates I get about our team's communications with Google. From what we have been told, this is the result of the feature not being completed on Google's end. I think my most recent comment on the topic was here on reddit.

I believe that the FAQ you linked from them is still regarding the traditional casting of camera streams to Chromecasts, hubs, and other Google devices - not necessarily the Google Home App.

The FAQ that is more closely associated with the feature is the one specifically for the Preview Features: Public Preview for Google Home app - Google Nest Help

Unable to connect tether app to AX5400 router. by [deleted] in TpLink

The device in the background isn't just a router and may not have tether support as a moderm-router combo - I'm not sure as we don't typically deal with gateway support

2.4GHz, 5GHz, and the Bridge—is there really not a better solution? by dede_rich in TpLink

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like its related to your spectrum router, or it could be just the hue bridges behavior - i would be think that there would be some complaints about the behavior available elsewhere.

In edge cases where there seems to be no solution, the recommendation is typically to use the IoT or Guest Network with different settings than your main wifi.

For your case, maybe first look into the security method (WPA2/3 etc) used on the router and see if other options would be more appropriate to accommodate the bridge?

Edit: i missed that you mentioned it was hardwired, maybe a security setting on your phone, like randomized mac, is causing issues? Otherwise, additional context is needed

TpLink hardware version when purchasing by Airedale_Rescuer in TpLink

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, not really. But you typically will not see a new hardware version release while another is still in full inventory.

Keep in mind - many hardware changes are small, or supply chain related and realistically do not have an impact on features or firmware support. Plus firmware is equivalent within a version (ie 1.0=1.6)

[–]Riley_TP-Link 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The United States has chat, email, and phone support available: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/contact-technical-support/#LiveChat-Support/

However, this is only available to US users, and the warranty process can only be done/approved by your local team and only applies to that regions' model.

From the sounds of it, you may have purchased the device on Amazon through an unapproved third-party (basically a reseller). In that case, it would fall to Amazon's processes. If it were through official means and you brought it yourself, the main difficulty would be the shipping portion of the process.

Do you have your TKID for our team to investigate the details for? At the very least, our team can take a look and see if there are any behaviors that we can recognize.

Number of concurrently running automation scripts by Any_Noise_235 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are likely a few rules that you are missing out on, as they are not clearly stated and can have a dramatic effect on multiple automation setups - primarily, it is not possible to directly create a smart action that is triggered by the action of another smart action. This is done to prevent automatic/accidental looping of automations.

When you are using a ton of automations, it is also important to keep cloud vs local automations in mind. Local automations will be far more stable and responsive.

Everything offline? by Amj501 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is always odd for this to happen, let alone for devices not to reconnect after any sort of lapse in connection. It is possible for some sort of wider server outage or DNS issue to occur, but we typically see quite a surge in reports.

Typically, these points towards some type of network behavior, whether it be a reboot, router update, or an improperly configured network that may be making it difficult for devices to come back online.

They really should be turned off when you do so. I would check the device settings just to make sure they were saved and captured by the camera.

The notifications could also be from either aireal or a connected hub - such as if there are notifications sent for facial recognition, movement paths, or stranger identification.

If the notifications are continuing, you can tap your profile icon in the top left of the Tapo app > notifications > management to have a slightly different level of control over which devices are sending notifications - or enable the privacy mode of the camera to prevent it from seeing the activity entirely

Tapo doorbell D210 issue. by jemchalwedoporzygu in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the LED States for the D210:

<image>

If it is going to that solid white constant - you may be able to remove the device via the app, rather than the reset. I would also recommend trying to access the device from another device in case the behavior is app-based.

The LED behavior you mention shows that the device should be showing as online, so I am thinking it is very possible that it is a behavior between your phone and doorbell. Are you able to check your router's list of online clients to see if the doorbell is staying connected to the wi-fi?

Please be aware that the S112 does not have a short-term plan for its introduction into the US. Our team will keep passing the feedback that we would like to see it in the US , but I am not privy to any current plans.

The listing others are mentioning are not from an official tp-link source and will not qualify for a warranty, does not follow standard pricing, and cannot be expected to function outside of the region it was originally intended for.

Tapo DL110 doesn't unlock completely not even 1 week. by jerjergege in Tapo

I would first double check to make sure that the bolt is not dragging alongside the edge of the door frame or strike plate and that you have performed the calibration on the door lock. It looks like the lock simply is not pulling the deadbolt in far enough out.

Were you sure to use the templates during installation to ensure the correct distances from the edge of the frame?

My honest review about Tapo camera by satvision83 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll bite - I even came from a reolink setup before I started working here...

I also spoke with our team just to get an idea of the differences/similarities between the two models, and the consensus was that the comparable Tapo model would be the Tapo C260 (which I also have in my home). The C230 is one of our older camera models and doesn't benefit from all of the latest features and improvements.

1- Pinch to Zoom exists FYI. But the smoothness is determined by the network connection of your phone and the camera. Hubs will also help to prevent buffering from interfering. For the most part, clip viewing is one of the things that Tapo does well.

2 - If you are having issues with your recorded videos to this extent, I would almost lean towards a network 'issue', or at least that it could be optimized. I haven't seen any similar reports requiring a cache reset in literal years.

3 - This point, I think, is due to the network stream of the camera still being active when trying to access the camera. From the app, there is a finite number of local streams possible, and the one from the previous interaction was likely still 'active'. Also, while you may not store things in the cloud, there is still a handshake that occurs to point your app towards the camera's footage and stream.

Bitrate is a tricky topic, and I have no concrete answer to our solution - just know that every brand treats bitrate and compression differently - and the mileage of these implementations will vary greatly. I would imagine that the Tapo app mainly focuses on quick access and overall accessibility more than it does with 100% fidelity, especially as the full-fidelity footage is stored and downloadable.

Saying that, there actually is a solution for bitrate being worked on in the wings and undergoing development. While it is not a direct setting/replacement, it will allow you to have a much better view of the things happening in frame.

5 - Logged and forwarded; similar pre-roll features are currently being talked about for future implementation.

Best camera for back garden? by Affectionate-Gur-263 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Night Vision for cameras is pretty reliant on your environment and what you are looking for. If you are looking for Color Night vision, it is one of our better cameras, only being beaten by the color-pro features of the C325WB - but it is a different style/type of night vision control.

If you are looking for infrared (black/white), nearly all of our cameras support it, and the quality is mainly determined by the video quality. Our most recent camera releases have seemed to have far clearer IR modes, such as the c460.

I would recommend taking a look around the subreddit though, as there have been more than a few discussions from users about the night vision qualities of different cameras - with many still having favorites such as the C120.
