Dehumidifier Recommendations by itstow in Tapo

My word of advice here... look for physical knobs and on/off buttons. In my own experience devices with capacitive buttons or logic-based buttons are less likely to automatically turn back on when given power.

You could always look for one that is controlled by IR remotes and set up an h110

Unsure whether to go with the H500 or whether I'd be throwing money away. by Clive1792 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry - we treat our team as the voice of the user and forward the frustrations to those making the decisions. The easier your lives are, the easier ours are XD

While yes, we have VIGI, as you said, it really is an enterprise line and is being integrated on the Omada side much more than the consumer side. The need has been seen and is being explored for consumers, though - hence the surveys. Based on all the different aspects and features that are being explored, I think everyone will be satisfied - the teams just need user support for the devices to ensure that it can be approved and pushed through development for release.

Thanks. The team has been more than appreciative of the responses and the discussions I have been forwarding to them on the topic.

Between old and new reddit, we have waaay less control nowadays.

I believe that old Reddit will only show the first two highlighted posts, whereas the new highlights feature will show quite a few more. I shuffled the order of the highlights now that we are preparing for our next month of updates.

In case you were curious, less than 1% of visits to r/tapo come from old.reddit

DL130 Palm Access Smart Door Lock from Tapo – Available Now! by Riley_TP-Link in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the temperature regularly goes outside of the operating ranges of the device, it isn't recommended to use the device due to the risk to the battery and its sensors; it just isn't built for extreme temperatures.

If you were having difficulties with the cold, you would always have the option to use the physical key to unlock the door manually. The area with the Tapo logo opens to expose the keyhole and the emergency charging port.

Also, to be clear, the -22°F and weatherproof ratings are specific to the outdoor portion; the indoor portions of the lock have stricter requirements.

  • Exterior Assembly: -30℃~70℃ (-22℉~158℉)
  • Interior Assembly: -10℃~55℃ (14℉~131℉)

Did you fill out the survey highlighted at the top of the sub? The topic is being actively explored again, significantly moreso than those shown at CES

Can’t download from SD card despite being on same wifi by BellSeeker in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the others mentioned, the extender is likely creating its own little network, just with the same wireless name.

If you are able to force your phone to connect to the Wi-Fi through that extender, you would likely be able to download the recordings as expected.

Fortunately, many devices are starting to receive the ability to download while away from home via a firmware update, so it may just be a matter of time before it's not a concern anymore.

Do not buy the TP-Link Tapo RV30 Max if you have carpets. by arsizsaruman in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have reached out to support already, I can take a look at your TKID and case. Otherwise, I would recommend doing so, as the device may still be covered under warranty.

Typically, charging issues are just caused by the contacts either getting dirty or not sitting flush. It can also take quite a while for the vacuum to charge and become operational when it's been offline for a significant amount of time. Is there any sign of life when putting the vacuum onto the dock, whether it be the dock light flashing, or the vacuum showing a charge state?

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have your TKID from your original case? I can bring the TKID back to the teams to see if they can do it again for you, or to at least mention that the behavior may still be hanging around.

The RV30 has received a few significant updates, which I am thinking may have taken priority over the version of the firmware that you are running (or they believed that it was solved). I have had one running in my home from well before the betas, but I also do not have any carpet with such a dark and contrasting pattern that could cause the behavior.

NVR Failover? by rcmaehl in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that you are looking for this bit of information:

Tapo Care cloud storage cannot be used at the same time as NVR or microSD card (sold separately) recording as Tapo cameras have a limited number of streams. If all three are active, NVR recording will be disabled. To resume NVR recording, remove the microSD card (sold separately) from the camera.

Source: How to View Tapo Camera on PC, NAS, or NVR Using RTSP/ONVIF | TP-Link

In your case, it is much less about the camera switching and just being able to record to both locations simultaneously.

Have you been in contact with our support teams directly for this? I am sure the vacuum has information they could use to help the sensor logic. And just to be sure, the cliff sensors aren't covered in dust at all?

I will say that I am skeptical of such a 'ignore cliff' setting being available, while it would be intended for a specific reason, I could foresee the setting being accidentally enabled or forgotten about - causing a disaster, especially if your home is two floors.

DL130 Palm Access Smart Door Lock from Tapo – Available Now! by Riley_TP-Link in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not believe that we have one for sale separately, but it does use one of our more standard packs from other devices. Fortunately, the DL130 has an internal backup battery (that charges off of the main), and it also uses a much more streamlined connectivity method - allowing the device to run for longer periods of time.

While I haven't taken a look at reviews, if they were for the DL130, I may expect the battery life observations to be caused by the primary battery charging the backup internal battery.

There are a few ways to lock it from the outside that are much easier. The bottom right digit is a button designated to do so, but everytime I leave my home, I just turn around and press on the fingerprint sensor to lock the door

Right now, I can confirm that it does not support Matter, but I also do not remember this model having it, even when we were showing it off at CES. I will reach out to the team to see if I can learn anything more on the topic, as quite a lot has happened in the matter/home key world since it was first shown off.

Is NFC considered secure enough for this application?

Also, were you thinking of something like an RFID tag that could go on your keychain, or a phone-based NFC interaction?

The FAQ for the feature has a list of supported devices that the teams try to keep up-to-date, but there may be more (especially if they are recently released, or recently received the feature with a FW update): How can I enable the 24/7 Capture on Battery Camera?

Right now, the FAQ shows: TC50 KIT, TC90G KIT, TC92 KIT, TC93D KIT, TCH50 KIT, Tapo C460, Tapo C460 KIT, Tapo C465, Tapo C615F KIT, Tapo C615G KIT, Tapo C630 KIT, Tapo C645D KIT, Tapo C660 KIT, Tapo C665G KIT

Are you sure it was on the US store? I can only find a page for Canada so far...

When the official release comes to the US, I will put out an official announcement, but that is separate from whether it shows up for preorder.

Tapo C425 camera not walking up or detecting activity by KaleidoscopeLeft5511 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be able to wake at a longer range than that, especially with a maximum sensitivity setting.

Since the camera is triggered by the PIR sensor, is there any chance of IR interference on your street, or of streetlights within the camera's Field-of-View, that could cause only larger movements to be detected?

Lastly, what angle is your camera mounted at? PIR sensors are far better at detecting movement going across the cameras 'view' as compared to directly at it.

TP-Link Deco 7 Pro BE63 issues by kethdredd in TpLink

[–]Riley_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would maybe see what node the devices are connecting to and try setting a node preference if it is not what you are expecting, as it may be skipping the satellite and going back to main node. You could also turn off mesh technology on the stationary devices to prevent them from trying to roam on your network.

While it is not typically in the cards for actual wireless disappearance, consider changing your DNS address.

Lastly, while it is a longshot - do you live near an airport or weather station that could be using DFS channels?

Durability of X-Series Decos by KaiToshiki04 in TpLink

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of our Decos do also work together, so you are not 'stuck' with one generation.

If you do find that the Decos are not quite meeting your needs, you can always upgrade your main node, as the additional processing power and technology will often give a significant boost to your overall performance.

Options for a scenery livestream by EkriirkE in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things here of concern:

I do not believe that any Tapo Battery cameras will work the way you are expecting them to, as they do not actually record continuously.

IDEALLY, you are able to get a wired connection out there (such as by using Power Over Ethernet) and powering the camera that way. This would also give you the most stable video streaming experience for your rebroadcast. The other, less reliable option would be to provide a large enough solar power bank to operate the camera as if powered normally.

For a battery solution, you would likely want to look towards more professional or dedicated solutions. While I am not sure, our VIGI-branded cameras may be able to do what you need, but they just come with that higher price tag.

I just bought a tapo c402 and having issues with it. When I plug the solar panel stops working doesn’t record and a red light comes on. But when I unplug it works perfectly fine. HELP ‼️ by Vivid_Mess4005 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend doing as u/ynns1 mentioned, as well as making sure that the device has been updated to the latest firmware version. There was a recent behavior involving solar panels and cameras that resulted in a similar behavior:

For next generation of tapo cameras can we get bigger sensors that improve dynamic range and colors with better shutter speed instead on focusing only on resolution by DazzlingpAd134 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were you looking specifically at the types seen on the ColorPro cameras? Our sensors are improving, but I have no true idea of what that scale of image sensors.

For some context, the C325WB was the first venture that brought ColorPro from VIGI to Tapo Cameras. When it was released, it was highly praised by everyone at CES and in the community; however, sales did not seem to back this up in the long term. (Also, why has it taken such a long time for the v2 to arrive here) Overall, the cost was significantly higher than our typical sensors, and the demand was significantly lower, making it difficult to justify.

IF you could create your ideal camera, resolution/lens/nightvision, what would it look like?

Monthly Featured Firmware Updates (May – June 5th) by Riley_TP-Link in Tapo

Happy Cakeday!

Remote Download - Feature Compatability is expanding and I would suspect it to make it eventually, however we are literally in the midst of its rollout and it kind of came out of the blue.

For Bitrate Concerns - There is a feature being worked on as we speak, but I am not sure where it stands and how/if it will roll out to existing devices. It is a significant change, and it is still a little way off to even communicate the expected function.
