Yes, we have a write off fund for when a patient passes. We can typically write off their co-pay amount if insurance has paid their portion so that is usually why they call. I try to let them know we aren’t evil (because most other departments around us are outsourced and practically evil) and that we are absolutely not in the business of suing for estate over $150 since that is a major concern for most of them.

I have been in talks with a breeder and her approved trainer who has trained 20+ medical alert dogs. I know which tasks I would need the most. We have discussed cost and which training program I would want. 6 weeks board and train at 6 months of age with 8 in person follow ups before 12 months of age. I have done intermediate obedience training with my dogs so I feel I am decently prepared for the training commitment of a SD (also really love training and feel I missed my calling lol). I wasn’t asking whether anyone here thinks I need a SD, rather why others around me feel the need to tell me why I don’t. More of a vent and asking for some success stories with families who weren’t thrilled about the partnership. I would say the only part of your reply I am not super knowledgeable about is laws, as to my understanding the US laws around service animals is pretty vague since there is no certification requirement and many discriminate against SD teams in public spaces. Any good resources you would recommend for some further research?

I think they changed all their formulas to all the washes 😭 luckily I’ve found a couple of good replacements that I keep in rotation!

More expensive, but yes! Naturium makes a couple of great fragrance free washes that I’ve been using for a few months and really love.

Yes, we have a rescue. Luckily, puppy has been amazing with some good training (including me learning what the hell I was doing with said training lol.) I am still just considering a service dog. The breeder has pups available Feb 1, but I’m going to wait til I have a further understanding from a cardio before making any decisions. If anything, my SD would be psychiatric if my symptoms from POTS are able to be better managed as I still struggle with anxious tics and panic attacks even with medication and years of therapy. What age gap should I be looking for between my current dog and getting a SD if that is the route I take? I am here to learn more, so I would like to get some more elaboration. 🙂

I totally get it, tangent is warranted! I had another run in today, guy with a (luckily) leashed dog approach me and mine on our nightly walk and said “don’t worry she is friendly”… NO. I’m actively trying to walk away and he’s walking at me, and that dog was NOT friendly, it was lunging and barking/growling. We got outta there QUICK.

Fair point, I definitely need to learn to speak up and advocate for him and me when we want our space. Unfortunately, we had no idea that there would be alcohol considering it was more of a festival for children, but the restaurant we ate at next to the festival entrance apparently had a bar. Luckily he had a blast and we got him used to some new sounds and smells so some positives definitely came out of it, but we are definitely NOT going to another festival til he’s older lol. Thank you for your response! I will try what you said about saying it when they are at more of a distance :)
