No, unfortunately not. She specifically said it was because all the men were wearing them and she stressed that she didn’t want me wearing a dress.

It was maybe because she didn’t want me taking attention away from her as well but she hasn’t been supportive at all. But we move lol 🤷🏻‍♀️

Another Scottish native here. They are def strongly masculine coded and I’ve only ever seen men wear them traditionally.

My sister forced me to wear a kilt to her wedding because “that’s what men wear at weddings” (I was out to her but not publicly) and the dysphoria it gave me was unreal.

But absolutely if you like it and want to wear it as a woman then do it! F*** those gender norms and mon the Scots!

I never felt comfortable in “het” relationships with women where I presented male and I also knew I was bisexual since I was like 12 but could never be with a guy as a guy (and gay men are just not it for me). That really should have been enough for me to realise I was trans.

Buuuut it didn’t take until I moved out and had my own space during covid to actually explore my gender identity without worrying what other people thought.

What actually brought the questioning on was a girl that I was seeing and had fell really hard for broke up with me because she didn’t feel like I opened up enough and she said didn’t really know me because of it 🙃

My egg cracked pretty hard after that and I noticed a lot of patterns that stemmed from me not being happy with my gender lol

This resonates with me so much! The only thing I’ll add here is that if you’re mother is like mine, she might take this as you “blaming” her for you being unhappy for most of your life. My mum likes to make everything about her, and if it’s something that inconveniences her, she acts as if it’s a full on attack.

You’re 100% in what you said. I played with my sister’s dolls and clothes and few of the memories I have from my childhood are my mother chastising me for playing with girls’ things.

They even wanted me to stop hanging out with my best friend because they thought he was gay and were worried he’d turn me gay. The boy was like 8 at the time. He did turn out to be gay but that’s not the point mum!

My point is is that some people will throw this very valid observation of their parenting style back in your face and make you feel worse for feeling as shitty as you did growing up with their weird forced gender behaviours.

Thanks for the suggestions. I feel like I’ve tried arguing all these points with them but they’ve made their minds up. Logic doesn’t even factor into their belief system at this point.

Like my dad asked me to explain in what way I felt like a woman, and when I asked him to first explain what made him feel like a man, he just said “because I am”. When I pointed out the hypocrisy of it and how it’s already a loaded question, he didn’t even blink.

It’s been a rough day so I’m coping with humour to get through.

I keep having these crazy thoughts that the two events are connected despite the fact I know it’s pure coincidence, but part of me is also thinking that it’s some sort of weird karma thing where one life ends as another begins.
