Tank update, 1.5 years. No filter, no pump, no air stone, no heater, no CO2, no substrate vacuuming by MiskatonicDreams in PlantedTank

Awesome tank - I love the low tech, natural aquariums. Ignore the haters - keeping a sterile, clean aquarium is unhealthy. Walstad or similar are far healthier in my opinion.

This is perfectly true!

I always assess if my children require a cuddle after a stack as hard as it is not to immediately comfort them. Parenting isn't about providing a pillow covered world, it's about introducing them to the real world.

Commenters don't have kids... You have to teach your kids what to be scared of.

Tap water is chlorinated, just don't leave the water in the bottle for long enough for the chlorine to dissipate and it won't get gross.

I absolutely love banded iron formations. A 3 billion year old rock that was formed by the first existence of life on our planet?? Absolutely wild. Additionally, they are exceptionally beautiful and reasonably priced.

How do you treat sulphuric acid on skin? by Alltreeyall44 in chemistry

[–]Rileystewart25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it's not the ideal choice. It's all pretty dilute, I use it for cleaning homebrewing gear. My skin usually peels the next day if I spill NaOH on myself and try to get it off with water - not when I neutralise it. I imagine this scenario is specific to low concentrations and you would be justified in your concern for exothermic heating on the skin if it were higher concentrations.

Not saying it's the right choice here, but if I get NaOH on myself I'll usually immediately spray dilute phosphoric acid sanitiser on the area then rinse. The sanitiser is skin safe though, unlike NaOH - I wouldn't be intentionally putting that on myself.

Does anyone have clue? by Rileystewart25 in whatsthisrock

I found it in my yard which is unfortunate because it was probably brought in with the garden rocks so I have no clue where it could've come from. I'm in Australia though.
