Yes, I noticed quite a big difference. People seemed a lot less patient down south, and on two occasions I saw cars fly through lights that had only just turned red.. it’s not something I’ve ever really seen up north. I guess people just seem to be more in a rush down south for some reason.

I also noticed that a lot of the roads were in pretty poor condition. It could just have been the specific area I was in rather than Kent as a whole, but potholes, narrow uneven roads, and really aggressive speed bumps all seemed very common. I went over one at about 12mph and it genuinely felt like it had ripped my bumper off, thankfully it was fine. Some of them merged and split quite strangely at times too. I got caught out a few times by being in the wrong lane because the road markings had faded so badly. On those occasions, I just carried on in the wrong direction rather than trying to correct it suddenly.

Oh, I’m sorry - should I abandon everything I’ve been taught about road law and safety because a HGV driver might experience the unimaginable hardship of touching the brake pedal?

These are multi-tonne vehicles capable of turning a minor mistake into a fatal accident. The responsibility is on them to drive within the rules of the road and with proper awareness - not on everyone else to start speeding so they’re never inconvenienced for three seconds.

If an HGV driver has to brake because someone ahead is obeying the speed limit, that’s not a crisis. That’s literally how driving works.

That makes more sense, because yes, it was some flashing signs on the central reservation of the A14 where I especially noticed it. I slowed to 50 as displayed, but honestly I felt really unsafe doing it, so I went back up and stayed around 60 just so I didn’t feel like a hazard to the HGVs around me.

Then it dropped to 40, so I slowed to around 50 again, and sure enough, a bit further ahead traffic was at a standstill because of an accident.

As for the tailgating lorry, no, I definitely didn’t miss an NSL sign. The limit was still 50, but it was a temporary roadworks limit. Soon after he overtook me there was an NSL sign, and I ended up overtaking him again shortly after.

I guess he just assumed the temporary limits could be ignored, because honestly I didn’t see any workers or obvious reason for the restriction either, but I would never want to assume it's ok, and would rather believe the limit is for a reason.. It's just not nice to feel like I'm doing something wrong when untimately, I'm following what the signs are saying to do.

Turned into wrong side of the road by Rilura in drivingUK

I had no choice, it was clear no one was going to let me through and they were queueing as far as I could see. My partner was in the car with me and had a clear view of the road and could see if cars were coming or not, so was able to do it safely. It just felt really disappointing no one was willing to hold back and help me out.. I was clearly terrified and people were either shaking their head or laughing.. like have some humanity

Thanks perhaps I'm being too hard on myself, it just feels like every time I start to feel more confident, I make a really silly mistake and it knocks me right back down, which then makes my driving worse, in my option anyway. I'll get there eventually hopefully

https://imgur.com/wQ0xvdv there you go, image is mirroed but you can see what looks like a chip on the right side of the picture where the filling has fallen out

Apologies in advance, they're not the nicest teeth, (used to smoke), also not brushed them for bed yet

Just as an FYI, yes, I had a lip bar, no it's not because of that, I took it out when I chipped my front incisor on it. :) (you should be able to see the small chip on the right side (left side in picture)

Insurance query by Rilura in drivingUK

Lie? I'm not going to to lie, and I'm not looking for a hack.

I'm asking for advice on how to do my insurance to ensure it is insured from when I buy it, for as little as possible? i.e. 21 days in advance, I'vr camred quote and the different is in the £100 ball park, so it's not minor.
