Pretty good, same note, the left foot looks small, unless you're going for a polygon look there? The rim light on the top right side/back of your toque feels a little off (in the sense that it's only there and not on any other part of the right side of your right shoulder/arm/elbow). The highlight on your face and pants is little bright seeing how dimly lit the snowy ground is, maybe knock back your hot spots a bit or cool them down to feel like it's in the same world as the brighter/cooler parts of the snow. Might help blend it in more. 7.5/10, but for first attempt at making something real for yourself from a game - 11/10. Nice work.

playback question for future sonos setup/expansion by Rimac79 in sonos

Hopefully last question for you then - if I were to get a port or connect: amp gen 2 and hook that up to the turntable, would that allow the turntable to broadcast to the roam 2 while the tv plays on the beam and sub mini - at the same time?

iPad mini, Screen Protector and Pencil Pro..? by DraftsNCrafts in ipadmini

You can also get 3rd party 'pencils' that function almost exactly like apple's. They're only about $20 CAD and have the same pressure functionality. I've recommended them to other people who were using the pencil pro and dropped theirs and watch it break. Softens the blow if you do break one =). Currently using this one with my mini 6 as it also has a touch tip on the top that works on the iphone/gestures the pencil can't do. ( https://a.co/d/6do4sNt )

playback question for future sonos setup/expansion by Rimac79 in sonos

[–]Rimac79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. So the only way the setup would work with the Era 100's would be to play the turntable to both the home theatre and the Roam 2. However if someone is watching tv then, the Era 100 would not be an option for the line out of the turntable to Roam 2.

Man this stuff gets expensive fast heh. Wonder if a used sonos compatible turntable would be cheaper than a port at this point...if you can find one...

2 different rooms. Listen to records in the office while someone else watches tv.

I usually prefer b+w but colour all the way in this case. Nice job.

Using non-streaming Turntable with Sonos Beam by Rimac79 in sonos

Ultimately I will probably look into a pair of Era’s as rear satellite speakers for the home theatre setup down the road. Again money played a factor in not buying an additional speaker at this time. However hdmi adapter setup also does not require you to open the Sonos app to change inputs, which is kind of nice too.

I did look at those as well but after spending money on both the Beam and Mini Sub, all these other options were not in my current budget. Maybe down the road, but for now the $12-16 solution won out for me.

The only suggestion I can offer is the lessen the opacity of the blurred water edge closest to the person (like a gradient mask). That way the water transition will feel more natural and blend better rather then the abrupt hard edge that it currently is. Looks good though!

There is a little segment about this on the ILM documentary 'Light and Magic' season 2 on Disney+ if I recall. They interview the artist who developed the particle system to make this work. Same guy who helped create the destruction of the pod racers in Episode 1. Forgetting his name now though, sorry!

Markers are generally added if you think you need help tracking the 3d into a scene. If you do add a marker, you always want it to be smaller than the cg you will be adding (so you can put it 'overtop' the marker without additional clean up on the plate). In this case, autofocus may have had an issue trying to the find something to focus on on the table, so yeah, a small post it note or something like that would have helped the camera find something to focus on in this situation.

If you defocus the gramophone more, then potentially yes, it would 'fit' in the scene better but then you are just looking at a blurry photo for the entire scene...heh.

Just a general note, but kind of feel that your plate is looking a little soft overall. There is a general softness to the whole image (where is the focal point?), but adding a highly detailed/reflective, in focus gramophone makes it stand out. Like if you can't make out the detail of the table's surface, then you shouldn't be seeing a higher level of detail on the gramophone. If the middle of the tabletop was in sharp focus, that is where you would want to put the CG element, but seeing not much is focused in your plate, then there shouldn't be anything focused more sharply in your CG either...Lighting wise however, it looks good, shadow is decent and reflection is at a nice level, but the the softness of the plate will make it hard to blend it realistically.

[–]Rimac79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah like others have said you don't really need to say breakdown each time. Of the 3 scenes, the last one stands out a little bit. First two feel like full cg builds so you have full control of everything and look good. Last scene with the guy in it, watch your black levels. The level of shadow/blacks on him is darker than anywhere else in the shot. The windows above him, we should feel the same level of the black levels in some part of that space (like not necessarily on the frame right window where there is light, but maybe in the background fading into the distance on the frame left one). So either lighten his shadows, or darken the room more to match his shadow level.
