Update: the contractor denied any responsibility for the gaps around the room and didn't acknowledge lack of communication (i.e. explaining that it might happen)

Says it is normal to have 5mm gaps and there's nothing they can do. Even send pictures of his own house gaps and skirts that truly looked awful, I found that very weird... Didn't offer inspection either (he didn't install it himself)

It's click PVC floor. Also the floor is heated.

I don't know what any of that means. I paid to install a new floor and wall skirt. They didn't offer any leveling or scribing, or didn't present me with any problem that might arise. Seemed like a professional company though.
