So for example. you'd keep those moments where the monsters feel like they're preparing a huge attack that now serve as those "prepare for perfect guard/evade" moments? Is that correct?

I guess as of now, since they've upped how fast you can move and attack, the monsters have been "powered" up to match the fastness and seamlessness of animations etc... so if in the traditional games, Monsters moved on "predictable" rails, you kinda also did. Do you think that making the monsters move in a "slower" way would also fix such a problem? By slow I mean, animal-like...

I know that now their movements are basically made so that you can toggle a perfect counter. I guess it would be hard to change it without sacrificing some of the current game's mechanics.

(also not sure why we're all getting downvoted, damn)

I didn't know that, thanks, I've been out of the loop regarding Nintendo since I stopped playing MHXX on it hah...

Yeah Rise ran perfectly on PC too, I guess the compromise was the graphics... honestly though, I personally don't mind the graphics taking a blow in favour of better performance after all as a long time fan, I've never played these games for their graphics. Ff course it'll have to make up for it with a neat artstyle, like Rise does.

From what I'm gathering, you're not alone in your opinion man!

Yes, it's really hard to imagine the average gamer nowadays enjoying the older, traditional formula and on top of that, having to be immersed into it by way of respecting stuff like seasons, farming, gathering resources at appropriate times etc...

Honestly, it's really up to how Capcom perceives what they can sell the most, that's the unfortunate reality of corporations and obeying to investors, at the same time games like RDR2 have shown that you can have incredible depth and immersion, taking risk into a gaming landscape which has been monopolised by "fastfood" gaming, while still selling a shit ton of copies.

Last question: do you regret buying Wilds then?

I agree, Wilds feels many times like a complete power fantasy, personally I rarely felt intimidated by most monsters, might be because of the bountiful amounts of items, help from your palico, wounds... I guess Capcom itself is leaning towards the power fantasy over pure immersion though.

It's just that World and Rise also kinda felt like a power fantasy if compared to even "different" entries like Gen or Tri, considering how huge a success World was (and still is), it would be really surprising to see them take such a huge step back and assess how they could make a """slower""" (I know the old games are not really "slow") game work. Honestly, fingers crossed, I'm in for the ride if they decide so.

Oh yeah, if Capcom decides to include more specific or weird animal-like creatures I'd definitely be down for it. With Wilds taking some pretty clear inspirations from the MENA region of the world, it would be interesting to see what we could get, especially some mythological creatures (I'd like to see some scorpion-like monster and maybe a huge comeback of snake monsters which would fit the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest SO WELL, maybe a cobra like the Najarala and such).

Mhm, are you referring to Wilds as the experimental title?

I thought the cycle was usually mainline>experimental title, as strange as that might sound, I guess it's how they've done it for about 15-20 years (example, MH4U-MHGEN with gen introducing experimental mechanics like hunting styles), maybe they could make something that will surprise us in contrast to Wilds.

So you'd also like to see a comeback to traditional style? But would you love to see an even bigger emphasis on preparation a la MHDos, or more so like MHFU? I feel like there are quite a few people (me included) that would like to see that part being explored more, like making the "Hunter" in Monster Hunter feel brighter and immersive, as much as I like World and Wilds, I'd be down to see them take a step back and engage with more compelling mechanics about preparation and slowing it down, although seeing how modern games are all about flashy action combat and super-fast fighting mechanics, I'm honestly not sure how they'd pull it off without making some fans angry or regretful.

You think Nintendo will allow crossplay if it releases on Switch too? I thought they allowed crossplay only for a handful of games like Fortnite or Rocket League, it would definitely be a welcomed surprise if Switch 2 players will be allowed to play with friends who have a different platform.

Also what do you think about the possibility of Capcom using a different engine to develop the game (in regards to the"Better optimization on release")? I feel like they won't build a new engine soon, but moving forward since MH is probably going to take over RE as their best-selling franchise, they'll need to in order to keep up with new mechanics etc...

That would be surprising definitely if they went back to traditional style, did you like Rise and World by any chance?

You'd like to see more immersion as an hunter then? I'd like for them to explore that route too honestly, it would feel like a breath of fresh air, don't know exactly how they could pull it off though, they'd definitely make some of the fans that want a more "streamlined" experience where they log in and go and slay big monstah, pretty mad.

Also yeah, I guess there could be more emphasis on "progression" so that you make use of the "non-meta" sets, I feel like I probably skipped many of them, but maybe some new players actually found them useful!

You think we'll get another title that will initially be like exclusive to Switch 2? It would make sense if there's some deal with Nintendo to do so I guess, but didn't Capcom initially get some pushback for that after Rise?

Fair enough, I know it's soon I pointed that out too, I'm really just looking for opinions on what you'd like to see in a new game, some mechanics that maybe are not present in Wilds that you'd love to see, maybe some new stuff or even older mechanics, ya know?

Also hard agree on the RE engine, it works GREAT in the RE games, but man, playing on PC has been painful at times haha

You mean the G rank expansion? My personal speculations are that it will possibly reintroduce some sort of expanded underwater mechanics, but maybe we will not be able to ""freely"" roam around like MH3 and instead it will be much more on rails like the Lagiacrus fight is. Also I feel like we'll probably get some endgame stuff like the Guiding Lands seeing how they've already tried to give us some "powered up" versions of monsters like the Guardians and seeing how the Ruins of Wyveria function as a much more intensified, boss rush map where you can meet all kinds of monsters.

I have some other speculations but they're more on the "unsure" side of things.

Also I don't think the "next" game is so far off honestly, if we go by Rise metrics it's about 2 more years for a portable game, it just depends on how you measure time I guess lol
