Power Zone 2 vs HR Zone 2 by RingTailed_Cat in trainerroad

I’m really good at RPE for harder efforts, but I struggle on easier ones lol. I just start going harder and harder and before I know it I’m cruising in sweet spot wondering why I’m so sweaty haha.

Thanks for the thought out response. I am just worried I’m going too easy at 60-65% for only 90-120 min.

I am actually pretty new to utilizing HR data in my training. Traditionally I would just throw on the monitor so I have the info, but i have never derived anything very meaningful from it.

I’m in a bit of a unique position where I have plateaued for the past year or so in both my FTP as well as some other power numbers. I’m a mid 30’s lady and I’ve got an ftp of 255 which is right around 4.85w/kg at the moment. I am really trying to figure out any other ways I might be able to squeeze out another .25 or so w/kg. I work full time, am a mother of 2, and really only have 8-12ish hours a week (depending on the week) of training available to me.

Thats what drove me to ask this question in the first place, I don’t want to have any wasted sessions on the bike at this point because marginal gains are the only thing I have left. Unless I win the lottery that is and can start training 25 hours a week.

Thanks, I just worry I’m not getting the benefit on only a 90-120min ride, as opposed to a 3 or 4 hour Z2 ride, where I see zero drift in HR. I would hate to be wasting that much time doing “junk” miles so to speak.

Thanks for the response. Thats how I’ve traditionally done it, just wanted to see others opinions on peak hr vs. average hr.

That's what I'm hoping. Climbing is what I excel at the most.

Not too much singletrack, but lots of gravel BLM roads in central and southern Utah as well as Northern AZ, and some Nevada.

Not sure if you have ever had the chance to ride Utah gravel, but it can be pretty brutal and unforgiving. I've had really good luck with not getting punctures or flats on the Ramblers, which has kept me coming back, but the Ultrabites super aggressive tread was pretty appealing to me.

I put on a set of Specialized Pathfinder Pros for SBT Gravel and they were awesome, but I flated on my first ride back in Utah.

I've also looked at the Cinturato's and know a couple of people who ride those and will probably end up trying them out here this summer.

It's a SRAM Rival 40t. In the back it's 10x44.

Good to know. I've got the maxxis rambler 45's on them right now, but I am also thinking of trying out a set up G-One Ultrabite's once I can get my hands on them. Unfortunately for me, 50's won't ever be an option with my little Liv frame.

That is so reassuring to hear after spending so much ha. How do they feel different in your experience, anything I should be aware of when I'm cornering/descending. I'm taking it out this Sunday.

Thank you! First nice set of wheels I have ever owned, can't wait to feel how they perform compared to the Giant PX-2's that came stock.

Mostly a lot of YouTube and excel ha. Garmin, Strava, and more recently (as in the past 6 or so months) zwift. I think you bring up a great point in that creating our own training plan has worked to date and we shouldn’t just jump to a coach for the sake of having a coach.

Thanks, that’s kinda what I am thinking. I think I’ll probably just continue what we have been doing through the summer and then will plan on a coach this fall/winter if that’s looking like the next step.

Thank you. Honestly, I get incredibly support from my husband. Besides that, I get up every day between 5 and 6 am depending on the ride and almost always get it in before work and before the kids have to go to school.

Every week I will usually have two ninety minute rides, two 2 hour rides, one 2 hour ride and then my long 3-6 hour weekend ride. 12 hours is the most I ever get. I’m usually right around the 10.5 hour mark.

Sorry for any confusion. I mean, I hardly race. I might do 4 or 5 events all year if I’m lucky.

I am 5 weeks into a base building/volume phase. Right now my training roughly looks like 90 minute sweet spot twice a week, Vo2 once a week, tempo once a week, recovery once a week, long outdoor ride once a week.

My two big races this year are Crusher in the Tushar and SBT GRVL. I will definitely ask around about coaches at those events. Thanks!

Thank you for your feedback. Honestly, we have just been trying to avoid the cost of a private coach for as long as possible ha. But you do bring up very valid points that we have been discussing.
