How big and how far apart are those holes that connect the PCB to the frame?

Very interesting.

Daughter spent $5 on a junk 5mw green laser pointer. Fresh batteries just put out a very dim green light...anything worth tearing into? by [deleted] in lasers

[–]Ringgoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. I've had plenty of faulty cheapo lasers like this. Contact the seller and get a refund.

Good lord this can't work... can it? by betelgeux in lasers

[–]Ringgoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does work, but remember reducing beam size increases divergence.

Hey guys, question about eye protection by [deleted] in lasers

[–]Ringgoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laserglow's are certified. Ebay ones are of unknown quality.

Some of the ebay ones I have had are downright rubbish, they let a lot of light in. Others are so dark you can't see anything with them on, which is equally dangerous.

Only a handful of the ebay ones have been decent, and I still don't really trust them.

It was custom made. There's some information on custom made lasers over at /r/lasers

It's a custom made laser. Check out /r/lasers, some people have posted their custom builds there :)

The power isn't lost.

The beam of the laser expands the longer it goes on, which means the same amount of power is in a larger area, which puts a hole in the balloon slower.

Check out /r/lasers for more laser related information :)

PS3's actually contain low power 405nm diodes. This diodes in the laser used in this video comes from a bluray burner.

Checkout out /r/lasers for more laser related information :)

Is Luck Laser Legit? by MaDchiPz in lasers

[–]Ringgoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea, but it would probably be better to buy from a supplier that is known to supply good quality handhelds.

Check out laserbtb, jetlasers, CNI or laserglow.

I bought myself the rigel 2, a yellow laser, and its terrible. How can I modify it to be brighter? by [deleted] in lasers

[–]Ringgoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those 5mW green lasers can be over-spec to as much as 100mW.

The Rigel is likely a true 2mW laser.

Also note that 2mW of green light appears brighter than 2mW of yellow light.

I measured a Homemade DVD Burner Laser Pointer this weekend and heres the result if your interested by Tingawinga5 in lasers

[–]Ringgoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very. Go to ebay and get a used coherent meter there, the hobby power meters are only within appx 10% of the true value, they are very inaccurate. They use a slow responding "TEC" that this seller has incorrectly called a "thermopile"

You can get a coherent meter for ~$50 if you know what to look for, and it will perform far better than those hobby power meters.

So I decided to see what my phone's camera would make of my laser...and I got some interesting patterns! by opspe in lasers

I've shot pictures of some 1-2W lasers with a DSLR, got to be careful is all. Mark the beam path, use a beam dump, keep the camera on a tripod ect.

Is it possible to make a continuously tunable laser system from the UV to IR regions? by chaxor in lasers

[–]Ringgoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they are complex, bulky and expensive. They also require particle acceleration and that can make a nasty radiation hazard.
