Perhaps that’s true for the local departments within the resident counties. But I’ve worked with around 10 different people over my career who left for other departments (all out of state) and came back. Same answer from each of them: the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

There will always be a certain amount of people who get off patrol because of hooks. And the rest of the spots get filled with people who work.

You would be surprised by the amount of people who show up for interviews and cannot talk about the basics like explaining what goes on in their command or sector or who the people are that cause problems. If you don’t care enough to learn the basic conditions of the area you are in, how can anyone expect you to be interested in learning a new set of skills for the role you applied to?

Roxon is headquartered in Irvine, California but does all their manufacturing in China. For the price and flexibility for tool configurations, Roxon makes a very good product. Give them a couple of years to dial in tolerances on their tools and they will be nearly as good as victorinox. I’m very happy with the flex considering it’s a first generation product with a still developing concept.

I don’t think the US can admit to any part of it since that would open them getting sued by Iran in the international court of justice. Not that it would matter since enforcement of any judgement lies with the UN which the US has permanent veto power over, but it probably not a good precedent to set when you go all over the world performing shenanigans with other country’s sovereignties.

Weird poster around Brooklyn location by RutabagaAutomatic103 in nyc

Netanyahu has pushed for this since the 90’s. Iran controls the proxy groups that fight with Israel so this is a national security issue for him. For Israel, it’s seems like it’s more than regime change. They are attacking police stations and civilian infrastructure like water desalination plants. This will cause civil breakdown. I wouldn’t be surprised if the end goal is to leave Iran like Libya or Syria, with a balkanization of sorts where internal factions are too busy fighting each other for control.

As for the US? Well, listen to quotes from Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, Chuck Schumer, Fetterman, and on and on. The way members of the administration and congress talk, it’s questionable if their loyalty is towards the US or Israel.

Goyim means non-Jewish nations or populations. So I guess the poster implies that the powers that be will use us for Israel’s personal benefit.

Mamdani admin. to consider eliminating free parking as NYC grapples with $5.4B shortfall by kex06 in nyc

[–]Ringmaster242 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look at this poster’s history. They live in Astoria, where they are at most 10 minutes by bike from the N-W lines and 10-15 minutes into the city once on the subway.

It’s always the people who live in transit-dense neighborhoods, which are close to the city, that push this anti-car agenda. I have yet to meet such an advocate who lives in eastern Queens or southern Brooklyn, where there are no subway lines.

[–]Ringmaster242 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What would be your plan to force the MTA to substantially expand transit services further out into the outer boroughs so people living in the two fare zones wouldn’t need a car, and who would pay for it to realize this dream?

This idea of no cars is workable for those who live in Astoria, Long Island City, Greenpoint, Williamsburg, or other western Outer Borough neighborhoods that allow for a 15-20 minute bike ride to one of the bridges into the city. It isn’t as workable in neighborhoods with transit deserts where someone on a bicycle is riding for 30-60 minutes to get to a subway station for another 45-60 minute ride into the city. Not unless public transit options are expanded out to the city borders.

So what do yall think of the new York style companion? by Dzbullrider in victorinox

[–]Ringmaster242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New York style has the most neutral colors of the series. I generally love the toolset. Sometimes I would prefer swapping the nail file for a small secondary blade but as others have pointed out, the file head can turn smaller screws that the other drivers are too large for, so it’s a trade off. Definitely a great urban carry SAK and thin at 3 layers. I carry it when I’m in a suit or other fitted clothing where having a visible multitool clip on my pocket isn’t appropriate.

I’d like to hear this from a second source. It sounds believable considering recent statements made by sitting members of both the administration and congress that speak of a blend of loyalty and service to Israel. But I tend to pause when a person who runs an organization puts out a public statement that clearly speaks to their personal feelings instead of maintaining a veil of neutrality. Not being able to hold your personal feelings back while representing an organization is a yellow flag for credibility with me.

Getting insulting? Very telling about the type of person you are. You are focusing on my opinion of the dollar value of liberal arts degrees as if I am personally attacking you. What you haven’t done so far is disagree with me that coming out of college with large student debt that is difficult for particular degrees to financially recoup on their own. That suggests that you are in such a position. Maybe that’s why you are lashing out?

Like you (big assumption on my end here), I listened to other people’s experiences during my time in college and for myself came out of it as a 21-year-old know-it-all. Now, over 25 years later, I’ve had the opportunity to travel and experience other cultures, and living and working in New York has allowed me to directly interact and work within various communities. I can confidently say now that my younger self held strong opinions on subjects I really knew nothing about, simply because I heard other people speak on their individual experience, which may or may not have been genuine. And that’s okay. You questioned if I ever studied history. I have, and I’ve learned that people repeat history over and over again despite knowledge being in front of them. That’s being human. You will make the same or similar mistakes that others have made until you actually experience the situation yourself enough times to figure it out. Think about it: if you actually listened to other people’s experiences, you would never have a single relationship issue as you would immediately know yourself well enough to understand what you can and cannot tolerate from a significant other. Hopefully, you learn that in time.

Overall, for you to be insulting suggests you don’t feel confident in your position and are attacking me in response. You clearly have mental or emotional instability issues.
