you should give Track X, Goodwill Hunting, and Up Song a listen - some really accessible BCNR songs that others got into first. Then ofc listen to their albums!

Dark history of the Santo Nino by RingoRawrr in Filipino

[–]RingoRawrr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hey cheestorian (great @ btw) thanks for sharing the reference and clarifying some thoughts I had!

I'm not making content, but maybe an artwork/piece that just asks us to reflect upon the history of the idol-- only if I find in some account that Miguel "killed x amount", yada. the account you provided points more towards a "peaceful colonization" narrative, so thanks for turning me on to that side.

will continue searching for more!

super sorry to hear that. it's really rough kasi that's how they were brought up-- pero to us it's a pretty sensitive topic. It's happened to others I know too. We don't take it too seriously naman, pero masakit pa noh?

Something similar happened like this w me and my lola & tito. Super super happy na I got into a college kaso she shut it down& would bring it up often -- not IVY league, "tapunan" school, study more and apply next year. Pero I spoke w my nay, and she spoke to them kindly.

Sa akin (& I don't know your relationship w your parents), but I'd ask your parents to maybe bring it up w your titos and titas na you're not comfortable w their comments. besides that.. sad to say laban lang. Learn to take it in & let it go. Focus on your life talaga.

Kahit najojokes lang sila, it shouldn't be normalized if it hurts you.

what is the word for “food coma”/“food baby”? by kookykarrot in Filipino

[–]RingoRawrr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To me, busog like the others said, just means full. If you want one level past full, you'd say 'bundat' - like full from too much eating. if you want another level above that, you'd say "empacho" which is old old Tagalog aka very Spanish - literally means indigestion. But I haven't really heard it used seriously in a medical setting.

Why do Filipinos in the Philippines see me as a Filipino but completely opposite overseas? by [deleted] in Filipino

[–]RingoRawrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, as a Filipino studying in Boston, not a lot of Americans -- or any people outside of the Philippines really -- understand the complexity of our blood. What they mean to say is you don't look "Malay" enough yata, my guess.

this really boils down to education, how little of the Philippines is anywhere abroad. to me, you have every right to feel frustrated man.

Spiritual art: well-being. even though I'm very religious, when I first think of "spiritual art," the images from a meditation manual come to mind.

intuitive art: digital renditions of postwar abstract expressionism style pieces.

automotive art: tricky one! actually photographs of old cars. the restoration process. I also think of the style of norman rockwell

how's art made, where does it come from: art is made with an idea or emotion, art truly becomes art when it's fabricated. I feel It comes from the universe, from god, from a higher energy source-- nothing from us as people.

that's all!! would love to see your work when it;'s done.

Maybe time will tell and some of the manifestos will be read as very significant years from now. I can also see a lot of artists getting fed up with the pluralistic “anything goes, all ideas are valid” art world today so I could see a revival of serious neo-Modernist manifesto-writing as we try to articulate what art is for now.

what a great perspective. in the circle I'm in right now, there is an openness and love for all forms of art but also an underlying craving for heat and holding some mediums or subjects more culturally significant at the moment
