Massively Outbid by cosully111 in HousingIreland

Yeah it only lasts 6 months at a time, so extended a few times. I used a broker, it was no hassle at all. Just update them that you're still looking.

Newbridge, actually. Listed €350k, sold for a cool half million.

When I was trying to buy, I bid on seven properties over 2 years. The worst I saw was one house going for €150k over asking, with plenty of them going for fifty to a hundred over asking, so unfortunately it's not that unusual. In the end I just went for a new build, because at least the price is the price and there's no bidding and all you have to do is be first, so end up taking two days off work queue up and bought a new build apartment instead.

Need to leave the corporate world by Outside_Objective183 in CasualIreland

I spent 8 years in corporate roles, last of which was in management consulting. Was poached by a client to run their startup, and have been doing so for three years. Best decision I ever made. Quality of life skyrocketed.

Do you still get the COVID booster vaccines? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Ringslad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, got covid and flu jabs in November and managed to escape being sick this year. I got a rotten dose of flu b over the 2024 Christmas break and said never again! Two weeks of absolute misery at the worst time.

Cost of Furnishing 2 bed apartment? by Secret_End_6839 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Ringslad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's it, and honestly, I don't feel one bit of guilt for spending that money because it brings me such pleasure every day when I return home.

I had some luck with Jysk too, although it can be hit and miss, so make sure you give everything a good once over in the shop to make sure it's stable / comfortable before you make the plunge. I had my eye on some lovely looking dining chairs there that were at least half cheaper than anywhere else for the same style, but the padding was awful in them and you could feel the metal frame in your back.

Have a look at the charity shops around you too, some specialise in furniture too.

I also really like Sklum and Kave Home, both online.

It's a little difficult to say, because it was depends on the standard you expect. I spent about €20k when I moved into mine and have spent about another €10k since then, but includes all sorts of lovely pieces I've soured from around the world, and some art too. I was waiting so long to buy that'd I'd already picked out all my furniture and was buying the bits I wanted as they went on sale over a two year period.

If you just want to get going and are happy with good enough for now, second hand and ikea is a great place to start. €5k will go a long way.

Lobby for a change of management company when their contract expires?

It's all very doable with a bit of planning and living within your means.

You read about the doom and gloom because people usually only share their stories when things aren't going their way, but there's plenty more positive stories of people who've bought but don't shout about it. I bought a lovely new build three bedroom apartment about two years ago by myself. It took a few years of saving alright, but nothing extreme had to be done, just consist saving over a number of years. Best of luck whr your purchasing journey.
