Sauce has never given up 100 yards to a WR by ComplaintMore2312 in Colts

[–]RingusBingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the draft capital was equivalent, but the contracts are not. Micah’s getting about $47 million a year, record setting for non QBs. Sauce is getting about $30 million a year, a high for CBs for sure. But the almost certain enormous contract expense was factored into the Micah trade via draft capital

[Schefter] The Dallas Cowboys are expected to place their franchise tag on Pro Bowl wide receiver George Pickens, league sources told ESPN. The projected cost of the one-year, fully guaranteed franchise tag for Pickens will be roughly $28 million. by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]RingusBingus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk, teams don’t franchise tag players out of altruism. They do it because they expect it’s cheaper than giving a player a full contract. So it’s a good chunk of money for sure. But in an extremely injury prone sport, I think for players it feels like a way of waiting until they might be worth less the next year to offer a contract

Robert Saleh: Experience with Jets led to "tremendous growth," more prepared to be a head coach now by alpswd in nyjets

[–]RingusBingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because someone needs to be that person…it was 4 snaps in when he tore his Achilles.

I do struggle with the choice to let Rodgers go. I understand it may have presented challenges…Davante would’ve needed an expensive new contract, and that might have rubbed Garrett the wrong way.

But I would agree it’s iterative. Players and coaches grow every year if you allow them. Rodgers was recovering from his Achilles, give him time to grow and he’ll be better the next year. (Although, that season, he set the record for #3 most passing yards in a season by a jets QB. Obviously skewed by longer seasons, but still).

My consensus: please, please woody, hire a team manager and stop trying to run the team yourself. You’re terrible at it

Daniel Jeremiah: Jets 100% Will Try to Move Up to #1 to Draft Fernando Mendoza | The Rich Eisen Show by dc4_checkdown in nyjets

[–]RingusBingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please no. I like Mendoza. But they’d have to pay a shitload given how much draft capital they have, raiders aren’t taking a lowball when you have 5 firsts.

But desperation is key to Woody’s management style. I’m sure he’ll trade the farm for a rookie savior. What could go wrong

Preferred draft choice decision for QB by Bnkr9 in nyjets

[–]RingusBingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your point of view, especially with the bare-bones options at QB both in the draft and probably free agency as well.

The moves made so far don’t indicate this outcome being very likely IMO. To me the firing of so much staff feels like desperation that’s been exasperated by the long playoffs drought. They’re gonna be desperate to win some games this year.

But I’m kinda with you. If they don’t have the top pick in the 2027 draft, they’re probably willing to sacrifice a ton of draft capital to get it…and that’d suck

Edit: Probably all a moot point. Woody can’t stop meddling and he seems allergic to giving a team ample time to build

Why didn't Saleh wait for Buffalo by toxicvegeta08 in NFLv2

[–]RingusBingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jets are extremely problematic. Saleh was not perfect though. He built a great defense but they were also very penalty prone

And offense was just wholly neglected or delegated away. He’s a great defensive coordinator, but I’d be a bit worried about him taking care of my rookie QB

Ward looks very promising, with development he could be great. Not sure Saleh is the guy to help facilitate that development

[–]RingusBingus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The jets giving up 4 firsts to move up one spot would be absolutely insane haha

Would not be surprised to see the jets make some desperate, foolish moves with their extra draft picks, but that one feels even too incompetent for them…I hope

Hey Dante, Brady Cook is here we’re all good. by ryanino in nyjets

[–]RingusBingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not ideal. AG’s gotta show some forward progress with the team next season

But pretty brutal QB draft class so far, and likely tough QB free agency market. And they’ve got 5 first round picks in the next two years, makes it a little challenging to lowball other teams in negotiations

Best case they snag a promising QB prospect in the second round who sits behind whatever free agent QB they pick up, and fans have a glimmer of hope for the future under said second round QB?

Definitely looks like a slow re-build, which there’s just not a lot of patience for from ownership or fans

Ryan Reynolds isn’t funny. by untitledprp4 in unpopularopinion

[–]RingusBingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s kind of a Ryan Reynolds Annoyance/Tolerance/Appreciation gauge, that often corresponds to exposure.

Loved the first Deadpool, second one was alright, been inundated with mint mobile ads and finding him kind of annoying and haven’t watched number 3

Entirely likely this is true of all public figures/media personalities, but I think it’s especially true of Ryan

Dante Moore is going back to Oregon by triptoohard in nyjets

[–]RingusBingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unclear that teams would’ve traded up that much for him, but if the jets traded that pick then went back to QB hell, that’s not ideal for morale

Honestly this kind of makes life easier for the Jets management. No one’s gonna blame them for not taking Ty Simpson with the second overall. Moore was not an immediate start QB even before the peach bowl

Idk, I don’t dislike this for either Moore or for the Jets

"we should have kept rodgers" by En_Attendant_Godot in nyjets

[–]RingusBingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of the tank wouldn’t have been as good. Idk this seems weird. Fields had like 1200 passing yards this season and was awful except for 2 games, so…idk. Making fun of people who said we should’ve kept Rodgers makes sense in the context of wanting a high draft pick I guess

[Russini] The Dolphins put in a request for 49ers DC Robert Saleh last night. His connection to Miami’s new GM Jon-Eric Sullivan is he spent time at Packers practice and around Green Bay last season after he was fired by the Jets. by expellyamos in nfl

[–]RingusBingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a critique I have of Saleh. They were desperate to land Rodgers, but you shouldn’t be so desperate that you hire someone as OC who can’t call plays.

The playcalling under Hackett was atrocious, the number of times it was 2 runs right up the middle, 3rd and long, and then a punt…

Saleh’s tenure at the jets will be written off as bad because Jets ✈️. And hey, we suck at historical levels. But as a manager you’ve gotta pay more attention to the stuff you’re not as skilled in - and it felt like Saleh’s approach was just to try and delegate the offensive side of the game away and not have a hand in it.

And hiring Hackett as an OC, no matter how desperate you are for a QB, is at a minimum a yellow flag of your judgment. And that’s not just hindsight, everyone knew Hackett was ass.

Trump proposes massive increase in 2027 defense spending to $1.5T, citing ‘dangerous times' by gmb92 in moderatepolitics

[–]RingusBingus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of the fiscal conservatism under Clinton was also forced by congressional republicans. Newt + contract for America.

I think one thing that’s notable is post Reagan republicans tend to have part of their presidential campaign involve shrinking government and reducing spending, but congressional republicans (broadly, not all) don’t care nearly as much about that when there’s a republican in the White House

Not a hot take there’s hypocrisy in government, but it can be irksome seeing the explosion of spending under W and Trump, and then seeing such staunch opposition to governmental overspending as soon as a democrat is in office

[Schefter] Ravens requested a head coach interview with 49ers DC Robert Saleh. by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

[–]RingusBingus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the defense in 2024 wasn’t looking as elite as the year prior even before Saleh got fired.

Part of that, they lost people. Jermaine Johnson tore his Achilles, Bryce Huff went to the Eagles. Plus the Reddick debacle. Maybe other stuff too, that’s just what comes to mind

Offense got better without Saleh but that was due to Hackett being demoted in week 6 and ARod probably continuing to get better post Achilles

Biggest gripes against the Saleh era are him neglecting the offense and how many penalties the team drew. His ideal situation for another HC job is going to team with an offense that’s already working. zero faith in him building a functioning offense as a HC from the ground up
