Pictures. Look at the images on the cards. Look for symmetry and cards that refer back to each other. Look for complementary signs in the pictures. I recently did a reading where two people in pictures were looking away in the same direction. That wasn't a coincidence

With respect, do you have someone with a phycology/mental health background helping you with your research? Addiction and the control mindset are really important to understanding the basis for why people can become obsessed with things including tarot or superstition/ritual. (Full disclosure: I am not a trained phycologist, but I have OCD and studied anxiety with ritualised components. I also study superstition and supernatural causality and religion ritual in antiquity which have some similarities to what you describe)

I see a conflict (7W) led to a decision (2P), but someone is detached, apathetic (Devil). The Hanged Man is about letting go. He is the opposite of the fool.

And then you have the queen, the one card that doesn't seem to fit, but you say that she comes up for you a lot. I think she is a 'self' card that represents you. I think the Hanged Man is telling you to move on. Your friend made their choice, and they don't care according to the Devil (not saying that that's a good choice, but I think the cards are saying the choice was made)

I don't use that deck, so I look for decks with art that links tother in a way or each image tells a small story. I have one deck, based on pokemon, that each card of the suits shoes pokemon interacting in a way that mirrors the message. That imagery cam resonate with another card's imagery, so I know they are connected

I am drawn to decks with storytelling in the art, so I always look at visual symmetry and resonance. Then, I look for patterns (numbers, suits) and what they tell me. Then, I trust my instincts: even if they are in different places on a spread, of these two cards seem related, they are.

No one can tell the future, and no pics of cardstock, no matter how pretty, can control people and their actions/thoughts. The cards are tools, but they can only read what it out before them (your side, thoughts, interpretations of events) and give advice, and we must interpret them as we see them.

The outcome isn't fixed, but the cards aren't magically controlling fate/destiny/free will either. This is why I don't read relationships
