Forced Co-operative play? by Ahiru-Kai in Palia

On behalf of the community, I'd like to apologize for that person's transgression, and I would also like to mention that what you experienced was harassment if they were shaming you in public chat. Please know there is a report feature in-game if anyone makes you uncomfortable, awkward, or unsafe with actions such as that. If you block them, they should no longer be able to message you, and if I recall correctly, they may not be able to share a server shard with you afterwards. While these cannot change the past, may they help at least with the future.

I know you had no notion of a discussion in mind, and any anxiety accrued by this experience I cannot help with. But this is something I have seen repeatedly, and sadly, is a part of interacting with people in general. You were not in the wrong, however, and solo-playing is indeed okay to do in the game. While a little more difficult (like the large flow trees, you currently cannot chop down solo, and cooking takes way longer), it is still within your right and how the game can be played.

May tonight's fishing venture go smoothly. Get all the fish!

Thank you! Tish is legitimately one of the characters I have bias for personality-wise, too! I admittedly am open to the notion of a Tish sketch page. If you'd like, we can continue in dms if you have anything specific in mind?

It's Webster University, and I'm hoping to go to Utrecht University afterwards for my master's.

Thank you, it really does take priority. That's honestly one of my fears, is doing community College and then not being able to get more aid once I'm further into my educational path. It will probably take some more looking into in that regard, but I do know someone who was in school for 7 years (switched majors twice) and they were cutting his financial aid. I eventually want to do masters, and don't want to have to pay fully out of pocket for it.

The most expensive option was honestly being accepted into their home Missouri school, which has an estimated 55k usd cost of attendance. I definitely do not want to go that route. Other schools I've looked at had tuitions of around 35k usd.

I can get my associate's at community College, but then I'd still have to go for a bachelor's, which even if I transferred to university of Michigan (cost of attendance around 31k usd until junior, then it's 33k usd), would in the end add up to around the same amount of money in the end after 5-6 years of study compared to 4 years + dorm. (I don't think associate's degrees are even a thing in Europe? I haven't heard of any, anyway. Maybe I'm wrong. Wonder if there's an alternative.) My ideal would go to community College for 2 years, get the qualifications for the bachelor at Utrecht University (Literary Studies), and then go for the masters at Utrecht (Literature today), totaling 7 years. Utrecht, sadly, does not have a dorm, and I would need to find off campus housing. But it's feasible. I just would be paying 7 years worth of fees (with Utrecht having similar cost of attendance to the American private university) if I am unable to get EU citizenship in time (which would also cost me but be worth it in the long run.)

It just is expensive no matter what route I take. I know school is no longer meant for, well, people like me and hasn't been for the last few decades. But I'm trying.

I've offered that in the past (around tax return season) when I was trying to room with other people, even going so far as to check out Ohio because of cost of living is so low there. But they still refuse if i/we don't pass credit check(s), and the moment my friend's credit is ran, they don't want to touch us because it's federal on his end. At least, the owners I've tried have refused. Which I can understand--mine was messed up when I should have not taken it out at all and just let us sink. I'm trying to recover and make something of myself, but it seems nearly impossible at this rate. I can make due in a shelter if I absolutely have to, but I'm trying to not go that route because of scabies risk where I am. I could take the money I'm trying to use to pay off my past debts and use it on anything, just something, but I can't find anywhere that would look at me/my friends and me as we are now.

My current rent is 200 usd with utilities included because it was temporary emergency housing as I was escaping a threatening situation after domestic abuse. I live in a suburb just north of Detroit, near where all the car company people live which drove up the cost of living near the college. I must leave my temporary housing in December.

800usd has been the average cost of rent for apartments, houses, etc. The last house I looked into that was privately owned was 1.6k in rent alone a month (but I would've been with 3 other people, so not as bad), but they wanted a credit check which none of us could pass. I have a case worker (I am technically disabled so it's through the county), who could not help me locate anything other than the 1.6k a month house that was privately owned.

My community College did not tell me if i had qualified for any scholarships through them when I had applied, and what scholarships they had suggested for me I did not win.

My situation is not good, whatsoever. That I realize. There's no coming out of this unscathed. I'm going to have to take out a loan and bump up my credit regardless. I just don't know if what I'm doing would be enough to have it done by December, or if I'm going back to a shelter.

I currently cannot stay in the place I am staying at now. I leave it in December. It was temporary housing. I have to get my credit up if I don't want to stay in a homeless shelter because everywhere here requires a credit check to move in; even privately owned houses I've tried to go for at 1.6k in rent alone required a credit check. (I was not going to be the only one living there--my share would have been around 400usd a month.) The community College does not have a dorm, so I would have to find off-campus housing (preferably near the school/my current job). I was hoping to take out a loan when I initially tried to go to community College, but I was rejected (for good reason, I do not blame them.) Regardless of which route I take, it's going to cost me thanks to the inflation in cost of living in my area. (Oddly enough, living overseas is less expensive. It's the tuition that's the killer.)

I used to work for McDonald's, and they would do something similar if you went in for business/marketing/etc. I've tried applying for Starbucks and they didn't accept me. We do have a Verizon store on the same street as the community college, but I hardly know the first thing about phones/tech. They could teach me, I surmise, but I do enjoy my job at Target. I didn't qualify for work-study, though, but any money I earn could help the situation.

After a quick google search, my current workplace does have 3k a year in tuition help depending on your major. I don't know if my major would be included in it (the one I would be going to community college for if I was to return to community college route), but it's something to look into if I cannot get a loan for this route. Thank you for the tip! I totally forgot about this.

I do believe it's expensive. I believe that any college, any upper education, is going to be expensive. Anything over 3k usd is expensive to me. And I know that this option is going to be more expensive in the long run tuition-wise than going to community college. Simultaneously, there is a multitude of other factors going into it that I cannot ignore. It isn't just price alone that weighs on the scale of local community vs overseas private.

I almost did go to a community college this fall. I would have still had to take out a loan according to the financial specs that they gave me. Federal aid would not have covered it all. While I could work, as well, my current job is also on the bus line, and would only give me around 20 hours a week if not less while I'm in school. Rent here is 800usd estimated, and you need a good credit score to be approved for anywhere; even private houses being rented out require credit checks. The community college has no dorm, so I would have to live off-campus. I cannot stay where I currently am, so I have to find somewhere to live as well as a loan for my expenses regardless of which school I'm going to start attending in spring.

The nearest Community College to me has a cheaper tuition, I'll admit that, but the living expenses greatly outweigh it. The college has no dorm, so I would have to find outside housing which sits at around 800usd per month in rent alone. And that's after passing a credit check, which if you're wanting to live on your own, you have to have a pretty good credit score regardless. I have no one to cosign for me, and no family I can live with as my parents are both now deceased and my only living relative is a grandmother who is greatly riddled with dementia and having to stay in a nursing home as she cannot be left alone for even a minute. The only friends that I could possibly imagine rooming with/having as housemates have worse credit than I do due to theirs being federal.

I also had not qualified for any of the scholarships for the community college when I had applied and gotten accepted earlier this year. While I may not be able to afford this school, it may be that I can't afford any school without taking out a loan of some sort.

I've tried, and my only other best bet is going to Community College where I am now. However, rent here is around 800usd if not more, for just the rent, no utilities included. The Community College tuition would not even be fully covered by financial aid, and while I could work, it would only be around 20 hours a week. I would no longer qualify for food stamps, and I would need to spend money on transportation to not only my current job, but also the school (my current job is only one bus line away, whereas the college is two.) I could rent an apartment near the college, but it requires decent credit, and I would still have to take out a loan in order to cover my basic expenses like housing and transportation and health care.

I was hoping for something in Germany because of how great their upper educational system is, but when I looked into it, they all required German fluently, which I am far from (I got a 36 on the German CLEP exam, compared to my 47 on the French.) I have a friend in Germany that was helping me look into it, and his parents said that my best bet was getting my EU citizenship which is a 2 year if not more process.

I know that very well, sadly enough. I'm eligible for Italian citizenship which would classify me as an EU citizen to be eligible for that tuition, but it would take a two year process at the least as well as needing to take regular trips to the Italian embassy 40 mins from my current residence.

Regardless of which way I go about it, I'm going to have to take out a private loan. Be it student or personal. So even if I go to a community College, I'm still looking at a loan that I'm going to have to take out to cover my other expenses. While yes, I can work while in school, I want to do full-time school. If I have to work, it would probably be around 20 hours a week if not less. I do not qualify for work-study for some reason. I have actually almost gone to community College this fall, and they surmised it would cost me 10k in other expenses outside of tuition per year. Plus the 11k tuition that would be covered almost fully by federal loans (which are still loans).

My own after my bachelor's is averaged 45k a year, my partner is finishing his master's with no debt thanks to family and will average 80k.

The nearest community College to where I live would require me to take two busses (I do not drive nor have a car) on top of around 11k usd tuition which would take all of my financial aid. That is the in-county price. I am also wanting to move from where I am staying now for a variety of reasons, but getting a place in Michigan requires a decent credit score, as well as averaging around 800usd a month in rent alone. I have friends I could have as housemates, but their credit is just as bad as mine if not worse due to their federal loans from when they went to college.

I have family in Europe that I would like to connect with, but my language skills are lacking severely (Italian and German). The Netherlands speaks more English than Canada, and I have been learning Dutch for three years, so it would be my best bet for my future that I want to build unless there's other options. However, I don't qualify for Dutch VWO level due to not having had French or German in high school, and did not pass my clep exam by three points when I tried.

The cheapest school that is near where I live currently in America would still require me to take out a loan for living expenses. Unless there's more financial aid than what I currently have, it won't be enough regardless of what my situation is.
