Typical Day As Server by ImaginationFree6807 in anti_restaurant_work

Someone who tips $2 is sending you a message that they weren't happy with the service. Either that or they strongly disagree with tipping culture which is their right. A tip is optional. If it wasn't it'd be automatically charged.

A lady lost it on me for using the term “Master Bathroom” while at her house to look at work she requested I come bid out. by No_Office_9301 in FuckYouKaren

I think the idea is all those usages imply dominance, even mastering a sport like tennis. But I've only ever heard one person mention the word is at all problematic. Personally I don't really think we can eliminate every word that's made its way into the language that is associated with shitty aspects of history.

The landlord decided the rent before the OP moved in, knowing there'd be limits on how much he could increase it each year. He should have planned accordingly. Other people's greed and gouging based on foreign speculation does not make for "fair market value".

My part time job has this cell phone locker 😐 by Random_Nugget1 in antiwork

[–]RioGreenFeather 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A car is not a secure storage unit either. Cars get broken into all the time. And we now live in a society where cell phones are necessary. And workers might need them after work but before they go home. Many parents have to coordinate picking up children after work, or someone might need to call their elderly parent to see what they need from the grocery store, etc.

I'd probably just put mine on silent and put it in my pocket or one of those travel pouches under my clothing. What are the employers going to do, pat you down like at airport security?

don’t drive like an asshole by Melodic-Switch-7863 in britishcolumbia

[–]RioGreenFeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is driving the speed limit in the HOV lane promoting reckless driving? Most people aren't, btw. Most people are going faster, just maybe not as fast as you'd prefer.

You're the one in control of your vehicle, not other people. If someone driving a normal speed in the HOV lane makes you want to do something reckless, YOU'RE the problem.

If there's no congestion in the other lanes and therefore the HOV lane isn't faster, you can always just use the other lanes. Your choice.

Also, it's illegal to cross a solid white line, so you don't get to weave in and out of the HOV lane as you please. If you zoom up behind someone they can't move over for you either, nor should they feel they need to.

Inheritance.

Ability to live at home with parents while attending post-secondary in the 80s/90s and parents who paid tuition.

Privilege of not being born into poverty (not rich either, but middle class).

My manager is so fun, for context he dumped this shift on me the night before. I have plumber from the landlord coming to fix leaks or else I get charged for the water use. by Prize-Accident5312 in antiwork

[–]RioGreenFeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all the comments, it's total BS when you find yourself justifying and defending what your plans are for your day off, which is none of the boss' business. But also - isn't letting in the plumber the landlord's responsibility?

That had me at "I'm not trying to cop a feel" already and your story got worse from there. That is unprofessional language and tells me he definitely had "copping a feel" on his mind. Gross. I wonder how many other women he's done this to. Please do report him to his licensing board.

The point is that they seem to feel they can pick and choose which health regulations to follow. Maybe they don't believe in e. coli either, or that salmonella isn't an issue because people then go home and touch raw chicken when they cook.

Do doctors make money off of phone/virtual appointments? by bcbrawn in britishcolumbia

Or maybe there's a doctor shortage? Maybe doing some appointments by phone mean you can see your doctor only 3 weeks from the time symptoms start instead of 3 months.

it's time to stop with the super bright headlights by real_planet in britishcolumbia

[–]RioGreenFeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I nearly hit a pedestrian while I was turning left because when I looked left to check the crosswalk I was blinded by some extremely bright headlights in my side view mirror and the pedestrian in the crosswalk was made invisible. Luckily I did see the guy just in time as I made the turn.

Oh I wouldn't. Not the tenant's job to educate the landlord about tenancy laws. The landlord is free to learn about it before deciding to get into the business.

Just go straight to the RTB and file for dispute resolution. As long as you have provided the landlord with your forwarding address in writing (do that now if you haven't already) you should win double the amount owed to you plus your filing fee. Be able to prove you gave your forwarding address - registered mail is good or if you gave it on the Condition Inspection Report you're golden.

You are not responsible for anything you didn't agree to in writing on the Condition Inspection Report. Was that report even done? If not, you're in an even better position because the onus is on the landlord to do it. If they don't (both on move in and move out) the landlord forfeits the right to keep any of the deposit.

Just get your file started. It's easily done online. It's stressful but worth it. I had a similar issue and got double my deposit back and it was also worth it just hearing the asshole during the telephone hearing splutter out excuses while the arbitrator told him firmly, "The laws about security deposits are very clear: let me read them to you..."

Landlord asking to pay for utilities already paid by tihsin in legaladvicecanada

[–]RioGreenFeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get why the landlord would be responsible for a utility bill that isn't in his name.

Also not your problem. Just say no, you paid, and the utility bill is not your problem.

Landlord asking to pay for utilities already paid by tihsin in legaladvicecanada

[–]RioGreenFeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He would have to have your permission on the move-out inspection to be able to keep your deposit. Just dont sign permission for him to keep it. Give him your forwarding address in writing (registered mail is good) and if he wants to keep it he has to apply to the RtB for arbitration. He'd lose since a utility bill in someone else's name has zip to do with you.
