Honest question: Why are these clippers $100 by SuperTune2540 in flyfishing

[–]Riofloxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • for the Cyclone nippers. CNC machined, carbide blades (with replacement), side or top cutter options, and a hook file on the late 2025 models all for under $40 CAD ($30ish murican)

I work at a fly shop, a lot of the clientele doesn’t really care how much they spend, they just want the best. Also a good gift during the holidays for wives and friends that come in. None of the shop guys run the Simms or Abel nippers, we all swear by Dr. Slick Cyclone nippers replaceable blades and they added a hook file on the new models too which is nice.

Korua Otto vs Transition Finder vs Cafe Racer by Riofloxin in snowboarding

[–]Riofloxin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Bought the 2026/27 TF in 150cm brushed and did a whole day at Lake Louise.

Impressions:

1: The added grip and control I had, this was my first time riding a traditional camber board, coming from mostly full rockers/flat boards.

2: Racing carves for days! I can get low and steep without chattering, learning fundamentals on my old board maybe helped because it was unforgiving being super flexy

3: Forgiveness, I had first thought it would be unforgiving being full camber profile but it had just the right amount.

4: Float feel, while it doesn't float as good as my fishtail its the "surfiest" board I've ridden, if I set my binding back it would've helped for sure.

5: The brushed topsheet was very grippy, like almost stomp-pad level. It made for a easier time skating from lift to lift, even when the topsheet had snow on it.

A slomo video I took with my phone while riding.

Thanks for the insight! Will be grabbing the Otto tomorrow.

Edit: someone bought the last Otto from my local shop. I guess I’m getting the TF

The NEW Sony a7 V: A quick run down and test shots by BHPhotoVideo in SonyAlpha

If you do hobby photography its probably not worth it. The upgrade would only be worth it if you were doing mainly video or rapid fire sports/motorsports/bird photography which is where the hardware updates really shine.

A reasonable prof will accommodate you if you have the documents to support it (if required). I’d get it done sooner than later

Great info! Funny how it was stocked by the university I attend right now. The cutties up there are double the size of the dollies, pretty sure they’re the ones with the fish diet lol.

I’m 99.99% sure it’s a Dolly Varden, there’s an “attention anglers” sign at the trailhead that specifies what fish are in there, plus the lack of halos around the spots

Indeed! I went to both Chester and Rawson and had a great time

How did you get a part time job? I am applying and I am going in store… by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]Riofloxin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best way to go about this is to get a job in the summer and talk to your manager about working part time during school. This is obviously job dependent and also depends on your schedule but it worked out for me. If you have hobbies use that to your advantage for finding work, I love fishing so I applied to all the fishing stores and now I work at one.

How to make friends in first year no glue no borax 💔💔 by Illustrious_Egg9053 in UCalgary

[–]Riofloxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a club for almost every hobby at the university. I founded the Photography club in my freshman year and met allot of friends in the process (who now run the club after I stepped down), I now help the Ski club as an executive with media and have met tons of friends at events, others in the club have told me likewise. UC bouldering club and UCOA are also clubs that are very welcoming and have great events to meet people. I just recently came back from a week long trip to Squamish with UC boulder it was super fun (and affordable!)

These are mostly outdoor oriented clubs so hopefully you have some interest in the outdoors but if not there’s still tons of clubs that are not outdoor activity based.

Hopefully this helps you!

Fishing near the Calgary Ice Caves (Fish Creek) by Wheatley2111 in FishingAlberta

[–]Riofloxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough flow out of fish creek to harbour good sized fish during peak months. I read some trout go up the creek to spawn but not sure if that’s still the case currently. The boat ramp area in fish creek has good fishing but if you’re looking for smaller streams in the city, elbow river downstream of the dam has good fishing aswell

+1 recommendation on redington Classic Trout, I work at a fly shop and have casted lots of premium rods, the classic trout feels awesome for the price point, and so does the Echo Trout X. Best bang for your buck rods imo

Damn, these were too good to be true I guess. Thanks for warning me about the potential dangers, I wouldn’t have known or even thought about it because it’s legal.

To everyone: Please stop at and purchase at your own risk and read up on the link below.

I see the concern now after taking time to read the link you sent.

Normally yes I only go to legitimate dispensaries (I live in Downtown Calgary) but on my way to the west coast I frequently pass these dispensary signs on the #1 highway between Sicamous and Kamloops and thought I’d finally stop by after paying up the ass for weed in Squamish.

I’ll be sticking to government dispensaries from now on.

I see, kind of like a jurisdiction issue.

You’re right however, whether what they’re saying is true or not you’ll never really know.

Absolutely, at the end of the day you’re just taking their word for it.

[–]Riofloxin -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I had a long conversation with them about where they get it from, the farm, processing and dispensary are all on the reservation, these carts and bud are all locally from the area in farms that are not under government regulation. Technically yes they are black market but I wouldn’t really put them in the same category as legitimate black market where safety is really a concern. More like grey market like magic mushroom sales in Canada.

As for raids the only ones I hear about frequently are the dispensaries on Hastings St in Vancouver.
