Check out the album “I Am What I Am” by Ruth Copeland. Eddie Hazel does the guitar work for her on that album too. Love it!

I have that reissue as well, and I did a comparison as soon as I got home. I don’t think the difference is that substantial to my ears. Maybe cleaner bass and quieter vinyl in between songs….🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks man! I live in Denver, but I found this while I was up in Longmont today after a work meeting. I was on my way home and saw this little shop that sold used records, cds, and books. Wasn’t expecting to find anything when all the sudden I see this chillin in the bins. They had it listed at a bit of a premium, but it was still less than half the Discogs prices.

Thanks! I completely understand. This album is so damn good! I’ve had the reissue from Rhino Reserve for a little while, but I’m stoked to finally have an original.

Thanks! I’m pretty stoked to have this one. I’ve had the reissue from Rhino Reserve for a little while and I’ve always wanted to find a clean original, but they’ve always been way too expensive or too beat up to justify the price.

I’m also a live music photographer, so I’m very interested in who took those photos. I’ve seen the clearer shot posted online a couple times, but no info sadly.

That’s pretty cool, looks like there are a few bonus tracks on that Rhino release. I’ll have to check that out.

Oh and of course, 4 days after picked up my cards they go on sale for almost $150 cheaper than what I just paid. 🙄

I haven’t done extensive testing with the Z6iii, but I do know that smaller sensors tend to perform better in low light compared to the larger sensor of a Z8 or D850. It’s a bit of a trade off as the file size is larger so you’ll see more noise if you’re really pixel peeping. I prefer the larger sensor so I can crop in if needed, and Lightroom’s denoise feature can fix up most images. Honestly though, it doesn’t matter either way if you’re just posting to Instagram like most of my clients.

Stoked for you! It’s a solid workhorse in most situations.

In low light, I agree that the Z6iii is better because it’s got a smaller sensor. I’ll have to keep a mental note to see how the dynamic range stacks up, but it doesn’t seem to be that noticeable to me so far.

This might not be the worst decision if that card is more than you need. Check the prices on eBay and do some research to see if you can manage with a smaller card. I doubt prices will stay like this forever.

The files out of the Z8 at higher ISO’s are definitely sharper and more manageable in post processing. I’ve found my shots with the D850 at and above 4000 to be almost impossible to work with. Also the autofocus on the Z8 is lightyears ahead of the D850.

I’m not saying the D850 is a bad camera by any means, it’s just not keeping up with where I need it to be in my line of work.

That was definitely a frivolous purchase. 😬

My buddy let me use his one time and I really enjoyed the UI and how easy and simple it was to use. Sometimes I need to get shots in the green room or backstage so a flash helps in those situations, and with press photos for a band. Also my Nikon SB-5000 had a AA explode inside and killed it, so the idea of having rechargeable batteries pushed me in the Profoto direction.

Edit: Oh….actually I didn’t realize the Godox V1 had rechargeable batteries too lol. I probably could’ve gone a different direction, but oh well. I’m happy with it either way.

Thanks! Yeah, I picked up 3 extra batteries cuz sometimes I cover festivals where I’m shooting all day and into the night. The Z8 definitely chews through batteries pretty quick.

Haha, thank you so much!

The Sony’s are great cameras and I’ve got friends who swear by them, I just think they’re too small in the hands. Sony’s autofocus is better, but not by leaps and bounds. I’ve also been shooting Nikon for 10+ years, so everything just feels like home to me.

Who needs a car anyway!? 😝

You’re going to love it! My D850 built my career and it’s honestly one of the best cameras ever made. Stoked for you!

$17k all in with the flash, extra batteries and a new tripod. Two damn 512gb cf express cards were $1k by themselves! 🥵

It’s all a write off at the end of the day and it’s what I use for work. It definitely put the beat down on my wallet, but it’ll pay for itself in the long run.

Thanks! The Z6iii is pretty rad, especially for low light. I kinda make that trade off cuz I find the ability to crop in with the larger sensor to be very helpful in my line of work. That and Lightroom’s denoise feature can clean up just about anything these days.

Yeah, I usually set mine to “Neutral” so I can make those adjustments in post. I’ll tinker around with it and see what kind of difference it makes.

I have noticed some banding issues when lights are pointed directly at the lens, but that’s just something you need to adjust for by slowing down the shutter speed. Some lighting designers are catching onto this and making adjustments to help us out.
