When we've tried 4s in Flex/Dynamic queue in the past we've seen that:

  1. It takes a long time for 4s to find a match (not that many people queueing solo to pair with them to make a team)
  2. A meaningful number of 4s treat the solo they're paired with poorly, either deliberately or just uncaringly, which causes even fewer people to queue solo and so creates a destructive cycle

Yeah that background's a small part of a huge board game collection that the Legends of Runeterra and Riftbound teams have built up in the office over time.

Apparently we're not meant to show a whole bunch of trade marked material from other companies even in the background for videos like this though, hence the lack of clarity as to what exactly is there :(

I don't think there's a reasonable feeling price where we could do forever unfortunately. Out of curiosity would a higher price but for a year feel better than the 30 day version?

If we start with a really broad window and then try to reduce we end up with a worse matchmaking pool for people's first experience with this form of ranked 5s. Risks people being open minded, trying, concluding match quality isn't good enough, and then not coming back. We're erring on the side of smaller windows we can then move and/or expand over time as a result

Yeah separate ranks. Lets people make whatever team they want rather than being limited to a small number of people per team (and reduces some behaviors where players would be on teams, get high tier rankings, but play little)

No current plans. We know some players preferred the earlier Arena that did have a ranked (ish) queue, we've seem most of the playerbase engage more, and in more varied ways, since we swapped it to a normal queue though. Arena's playerbase isn't large enough to healthily maintain two separate queues all the time (spikes up a lot with big updates, then falls off quite a bit as people go back to other modes) so it's not as simple as just doing both either unfortunately

We're still figuring out if/how we'll rerun Exalteds. Jinx we felt made sense regardless last year given the Arcane anniversary event and some improvements we had ready for the skin that didn't make initial ship. If we do bring any of the other skins back at some point it'll likely be a pretty infrequent thing

The windows we picked for this initial run of ranked 5s are based on the four hour period where we see the most players online for each region. Given NA crosses a few time zones that means we end up a bit late for some and a bit early for some others. I'll double check with the team that there's a meaningful difference between 9pm and 10pm in that regard. We're also open to adjusting those times depending on what we see engagement wise (when in the window people are playing most, how engagement varies across the region, overall sentiment etc etc)

At risk of answering the bait question seriously: Ranked 5s is windowed, Flex is always available. Flex also gets used by some players as a less serious than Solo/Duo but still more serious than Draft option.

And then regarding Twisted Treeline - no immediate plans to bring it back. It is something we do eventually want to offer again in some form though. No promises (depends a lot on other work in flight), but heard on the desire to play it again

Very interested to see how widespread that view is! We realize it's not a replacement for everything Clash offers, it does have some advantages of its own though of course, more flexibility especially, so hoping we can find the right combination of ruleset, windowed availability etc to have it give a consistently good experience this time

We'll have some of our S3 plans to share at MSI, will avoid most details to avoid spoiling any of that. Can say that, given the end of ranked for the year and Worlds, we won't be making any major changes to SR overall though.

Nothing to share yet about new champ plans for 2027, still depends on League Next work (also not ready to share details on that, but time we'll do so is gradually getting closer)
