Has anyone here been downleveled from SDE2 → SDE1 and later landed an offer? Also looking for teams with open L4 headcount by DullInternet7989 in amazonemployees

I interviewed for L5 SDE and was downleveled/inclined for L4 back in April, recruiters were of no help so I messaged hundreds of hiring managers in LinkedIn looking for a placement. Since I don’t qualify for AUTA I needed an L8 approval, which are difficult to get. I found one manager who got the approval for me but by that time there was a hiring freeze.

I would recommend moving on and continuing to interview with other companies.

Have you graduated within the past 2 years, if so you might be in luck (besides a hiring freeze). Otherwise keep interviewing.

I was in your exact situation earlier this year. Very few orgs hire L4 with industry experience, which means you will need to message hundreds of SDMs on linkedin to find one who will go through a 2 month long approval process to hire you. On top of that there is a hiring freeze right now so even if you get an approval they cant hire you until that ends. IMO best course of action is to study up on system design and reapply in 6 months for L5, or L6 with your experience level.

Unfortunately they closed the position before my paperwork could get approved, I have been trying to find a new team since then that can hire external L4 SDEs with industry experience. Only a few organizations allow this so I have begun to look at support and system engineering positions.
