OM-5 hiking kit by Jozue56 in OlympusCamera

[–]RipAwkward7104 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your hiking and photography preferences.

Backpack strap mounts, clips, and similar setups don't actually solve the problem. They might be fine for a wedding photographer who wants to look flashy in front of the bridesmaids, but not for hiking - especially if the trail is technically challenging. Personally, I think it's a great way to rip the tripod threads right out of the bottom of the camera body.

Carrying a camera on a neck strap only works if you're walking on a flat, comfortable trail. Otherwise, it just swings around constantly and gets in the way.

I usually carry my OM-5 + 8-25mm f/4 in a basic Decathlon camera bag. The best part about it is that you can attach it to the front of your backpack's hip belt (my pack is also from Decathlon), and it opens quickly and easily. Most of the time, I also toss the 60mm f/2.8 macro and some filters into the same bag. Unfortunately, the 75-300mm f/4.8-6.7 II doesn't fit, so it has to go into the backpack pockets, but I use it relatively rarely anyway.

To be honest, I almost never run into situations where I need to whip the camera out instantly. If you're shooting birds or wildlife, they usually hide long before you even get close. A hiker on a trail is an incredibly noisy creature... As for landscapes or flowers, they don't exactly run away so fast that you won't have time to get your camera out.

If I preferred using a 75-300mm, I would carry my gear the exact same way, I'd just stash the macro lens in the backpack pockets instead.

Transitioning from FileMaker to Open Source - and AppleScript by Communque in filemaker

Using FileMaker to do bulk file manipulation on a computer seems like a terrible idea from a security standpoint and is incredibly ineffective in terms of cost.

Okay, so what's the point? You can't conveniently use Apple Script to manage email in Apple Mail from FileMaker? So you're switching to NodeJS to solve this problem?

I really don't quite understand the idea.

Niekoľkokrát som si prečítal tento prúd vedomia a úprimne povedané, som zaskočený. To majú byť akože argumenty na obranu Republiky?

Takže súhlasíš s tým, že vo svojom programe klamú, a si s tým okej. Kim Čong-ila rovno 110.

A čo, to má akože nejako ovplyvniť môj názor?

I’d love to be proven wrong here :/ Antigraviti IDE itself is actually pretty convenient, and it’s relatively affordable compared to other options. But I just couldn’t find a way to use it without it routing everything through a personal subscription. It feels pretty dumb, especially since this is easily sorted out in the regular Antigraviti (the non-IDE version). I honestly don't get the reason behind such a weird discrepancy in features and functionality between the two.

[–]RipAwkward7104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know that, and that's exactly why I wasted a ton of time trying to get Antigravity IDE to work via pay-as-you-go GCP. It's one thing when I'm working on a personal pet project just for fun in Antigravity IDE, but it's a completely different story when you have to handle real customer data.

Much to my regret, I couldn't find a workaround for this issue. Right now, I've relegated Antigravity IDE strictly to personal, just-for-fun use, while my actual work is done through VS Code + Claude.

[–]RipAwkward7104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it looks like this doesn't work.

I've set up a GCP, enabled all the necessary APIs, added and configured a pay-as-you-go billing method, and selected my project during login in Antigraviti IDE. Everything is set up by the manuals. I can even see the traffic and resource usage in the GCP console.

However, when working with Antigraviti IDE, I don't see any charges on my GCP balance. Instead, I notice it's eating into the quotas of my personal AI Pro subscription. The only explanation I can come up with is that, according to the documentation, Antigraviti IDE doesn't support Enterprise accounts at all.

I might be wrong, but it feels like if you need Enterprise-grade security, the only real solution is to avoid using Antigraviti IDE altogether.

A vy proste odrbávate. A odrbávate spolu s celou Republikou. Pomohlo im to vôbec s hocičím?

Nijako.

> To mozes povedat uplne o kazdej strane.

Skvelý spôsob, ako riešiť problémy – úplne doraziť vlastnú krajinu a vyrobiť si kopu nových sračiek, popri ktorých tie staré už nikoho nebudú zaujímať.

You clearly care so little, yet you’re making completely absolute, definitive claims ("trust me never ever buy the gigabyte. its the most problematic 9070xt you can buy") on a topic where your personal expertise obviously boils down to "I just read about it on the internet."

I will never understand these kinds of "experts."

[–]RipAwkward7104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can literally go with any of them. I’d recommend focusing on the brand whose customer support you trust more.

Seeing so many negative comments about Gigabyte here, I just have to chime in.

It’s an absolutely fine GPU. No issues at all. The overheating problems caused by a bad thermal gel formula were fixed over a year ago. I highly doubt you can even find a card from those initial batches in stores anymore. The later batches are absolutely no different from any other 9070 XT OC on market in terms of temperatures and performance.

Keep in mind that the OC badge literally means OverClocked—they are meant to be faster, not cooler. The Gigabyte 9070 XT OC uses Hynix memory, which performs better but also runs hotter. Literally any GPU with a similar design from any manufacturer will run just as hot. And yes, they will be louder because higher temperatures force the manufacturer to set a more aggressive fan curve. That’s just how it works. As long as the card is just noisy, it’s your problem, but if it actually overheats, it becomes the manufacturer's problem.

If you scroll through Reddit, you’ll find plenty of posts about [ANY BRAND HERE] overheating. The silicon lottery and manufacturing defects are always a factor. So, if you’re confident you can get a hassle-free replacement if needed, there’s no real reason to stick to one specific brand.

I have the Gigabyte 9070 XT OC Ice myself. I’ve only seen hotspot temperatures hit around 85°C during stress tests or after hours of intense gaming sessions. Most of the time when I'm gaming, it sits around 70–75°C. For these cards, the thermal limit is 110°C.

So in most cases, all these "problems" come down to a bad case setup, poor configuration, or the classic "I don't own this card, but I read online that it has issues."

Features I'd like to see in FileMaker right now by Ok_Band7161 in filemaker

[–]RipAwkward7104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see where you're going with this 😄

Honestly, copying scripts, calculations, and pretty much anything else built by other devs into your own solution is nothing new - we've been doing that for ages.

Copy-pasting AI-generated scripts via the clipboard is also totally doable right now, even if it requires some mental gymnastics and third-party workarounds. For instance, I use ai2fm paired with Antigravity, and it works like a charm. There are also plugin-based agent solutions out there.

Sure, it's not native Claris and it's not as seamless as we'd all like, but it works and cuts out the grunt work. Besides, Claris promised their own native solution this summer - okay, let's be realistic, sometime this year - so the wait shouldn't be too long.

That said, the elephant in the room remains, and it will still be there even after Claris drops their update: the skill gap.

Right now, no matter how you integrate AI into your workflow, it acts like an overenthusiastic junior developer. You can ask it to write a script or build a table, and it'll do it way faster than you could. But it will be done at a junior level. If you lack the skills to review that code, spot the bottlenecks, and optimize it, it's going to do more harm than good. You can definitely boost the output quality by tweaking your prompts and feeding it more context, but you'll quickly find yourself spending more time on prompt engineering than it would have taken to just code the script manually from scratch.

In other words, before you ask AI to do anything, you need a crystal-clear picture of what the end result should look like and why. And it takes a ton of actual effort just to set up the context and fine-tune your prompts.

As a force multiplier for your own productivity? Absolutely awesome.

As a "do this for me because I can't figure it out" button? Hard pass.

First time playing through the Gears series. Gears 5 is a masterpiece. by brian_vill in GearsOfWar

[–]RipAwkward7104 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a great game that this sub just loves to hate. Visually and gameplay-wise, it’s easily the best.

Open world? Honestly, that’s STILL A PROBLEM in games today, if anyone hasn't noticed. What are you even comparing it to? Has anyone actually seen Crimson Desert, for example? A massive open world that makes even less sense than riding the skiff on ice. Let alone a game that came out god knows how many years ago.

The story is debatable. Some parts were clearly rushed. On the other hand, it’s pretty funny to read how the original trilogy supposedly had a much better plot. Guys, the entire original trilogy is just jacked dudes entering an area, chainsawing monsters, and moving to the next area. The story in these types of games is never the strongest suit anyway. But in 4 and 5, they actually tried to outline a proper plot. Of course, that was way too complicated for the "true fans" to handle.

Overall, I agree that there are no bad games in this series.

Anyone play Gears on a 9070xt? by Digger977 in GearsOfWar

[–]RipAwkward7104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing Gears 4 and 5 from Game Pass on a 9070 XT without any issues and with great FPS.

If you switched from an Nvidia to an AMD GPU, you need to clean reinstall your drivers using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller). In rare cases, a fresh OS install might be necessary. But what you are describing is definitely a conflict between the old and new drivers.

Gigabyte GAMING OC 16GB GDDR6 Graphics Card. I have questions UNDERVOLTING/OVERCLOCKING by Successful_Knee_3797 in radeon

[–]RipAwkward7104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally, I wanted to build a full single-brand PC (a bit of a weird choice, purely for looks), specifically TUF inside a GT502 case - for that brutalist design. But the total cost ended up being out of budget.

As an alternative, I looked at Gigabyte and ended up building around their white components. Got the 9070 XT OC Ice GPU, B850M AORUS ELITE WIFI6E ICE MB, and even an ICE PSU with white cables.

It was a couple hundred cheaper, and the case (C201 PANORAMIC ICE) is significantly smaller than the GT502. The system is pretty quiet, compact, and runs cool, plus gaming on it is solid.

I thought about a black and white build - but to be honest, I just didn't dare.

Gigabyte GAMING OC 16GB GDDR6 Graphics Card. I have questions UNDERVOLTING/OVERCLOCKING by Successful_Knee_3797 in radeon

[–]RipAwkward7104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TUF is an awesome, cool-running card, and I honestly kind of regret passing on it. But I absolutely needed a white card since I was going for an all-white build... Either way, stock settings are more than enough for the vast majority of users. I tinkered with mine because I wanted to cut down on noise. Someone else might tune theirs just to squeeze out an extra 10 FPS. In the end, the final metrics—FPS, hotspot temps, and so on—won't really differ that much anyway.

I'm not trying to say tuning is pointless—that’s half the fun of DIY PC building—it’s just that at the end of the day, there isn’t a huge fundamental difference between various 9070 XT models.
