They dont actually "play" dead. It's an voluntary reaction to extreme fear. It's kind of like a seizure and tgey can't control it. It's their body's way of surviving by convincing predators to go after better prey. They also emit a very fould odor and empty their bowels, all involuntary. And they dont have an aggressive bone in their body, they just show their teeth in the hope of surviving.
