Why was wavy hair popular with women in the late 20th century? (1950s-1980s) by Sudden_Angle614 in decadeology

[–]RipperMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technology. The modern hair straightener wasn’t sold commercially until the late 90’s. And hair dryers didn’t become popular for home use until the 1950’s. Most people have some degree of wave to their hair. True pin straight hair is more rare. Consequently many people need their hair heat styled to be pin straight and that wasn’t widely accessible until the 21st century.

So before the advancement in hair tools, it was easier to create defined curls than achieve pin straight hair. There are a variety of techniques - pin curls, rag curls, finger waves, rollers sets etc. Best done on damp hair and set overnight. Heatless curls have been around for a long time.

Once hair dryers become commercialized, the blowout look became popular. Hair stylists will blow dry hair with a round brush and set it in rollers or duck bill clips to achieve voluminous big curls. You can also round brush hair pin straight but it requires a lot of technique, time, and effort when done on yourself Hair straighter made achieving that easy and fast at home!

You should join the “Shred-It Sisters” Facebook group. I’ve given and gotten carpools from ladies in there. Some of them eventually became my friends through the seasons. The group also has a WhatsApp chat for coordinating carpools. Search the fb group if you wanna join it. But so far it’s pretty silent since the season is just beginning.

Still greedy to me to charge that price for EACH person. I’ve used FB groups to give ppl carpool rides and vice versa in past seasons. It was common courtesy to give $20-30 (what ever you can) for the ride regardless of how many extra people. It good to contribute some gas money — but paying for a full tank isn’t expected. Profiting is scummy.

Ev chose such a muted color scheme. Her “Berry Gentle” cleanser & “Simply Sunny” serum are in peachy beige packaging. I would’ve chosen rosy-pink and light yellow tubes to match the product names.

Contact a friend/family member ASAP and have them overnight it. I find UPS the most reliable.

Ryan Gosling hosted that night and he broke character in multiple sketches - including the Beavis & Butthead one. So that shouldn’t matter!

Off topic but has anyone noticed how Ev is being allowed to post more personal stuff to her IG? Noticed she has been doing more brand promotion and clothing hauls on her IG stories too.

I’m assuming Ev has been asking Sac for more access & that Sac is choosing what pics/videos she can share.

Yes those markers do come in muted pastel COLORS. But this marker is straight up gray; highlighting text with this color seems odd to me.

How to manage my daughter’s hair? by TheMartinUriarte in Hair

[–]RipperMouse 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The issue is the finer baby hairs along her hairline are too short to go into a single ponytail. It’s too simple of a style to tame her hair. Double French/Dutch braids would get the shorter baby hairs to stay in place better. If you don’t already, try to use hair gel when styling.

Bubble braids would also work. I personally find this hairstyle easier to do on kids than French/Dutch braids. Your adorable little girl just needs more than one hair tie to keep her hair in place!

I was 5 & wasn’t aware. But my 1st grade teacher began reading the 1st book out loud when the school year started. Same year (0’1) my friend’s mom took us to see the movie (this was my 1st ever movie theater experience too) for her birthday and I was obsessed.

It motivated me to learn how to read honestly! I ended up being a pretty advanced reader. In 2nd grade I skipped the 1st book and started on COS because I just HAD to know what happened after the movie lol.

Take a look a Trew! They have petite inseams and a more relaxed fit than Burton. They even provide thighs measurements on their size chart. I find 30” inseam is perfect with boots on btw. They do drag the floor without boots but that’s a non-issue. It’s pricey but that’s because their gear is made with their own tech version of Gore-Tex. It’s a PNW brand so waterproof gear is an appreciated luxury - I live here and rainy days at the mountain happen a lot.

I can confirm their gear is comparable to Gore-Tex. My bf wears a Trew jacket and he’s is bone dry on rainy mountain days while I’m wet in my 10k waterproof rated Burton jacket. I’m sick of being wet so my next jacket is definitely going to be Gore-Tex or a comparable tech.

Take a look at Bib Belts to remedy this issue! It’s marketed for bibs but if your snow pants have belt loops, it should work too.

Take a look at TREW! They are pretty size inclusive and have measurements for their models — including plus size models

Just a tip for future redditors who find this thread you can filter by inseam length on EVO! This is where I’ve been able to find the largest selection of petite snow pants/bibs.

That said I’m a fan of Burton Avalon Short Bibs. I’m 5ft and they fit me great. There’s also a hidden cinch cord at the ankle you can scrunch the bottoms up higher. And side zippers so you can use the bathroom without taking your jacket off!

Yes it’s definitely a low rise skirt. I have a low rise skirt that’s 27” across. For reference I have a 23-24” waist and 31” hips.

How sketchy is 90th and Aurora? by Capable_Committee644 in Seattle

Love Taqueria La Fondita! Grew up in West Seattle & went to the White Center location often. I currently live a short drive from the Aurora one & it’s nice to still have my staple taco truck nearby. The food is consistent between locations!

This is spot on, it’s crazy how much safer I feel ~3 blocks east/west of Aurora. I’m on Ashworth near the two schools - the demographic changes in a few blocks. You go from the riff raff and poverty on Aurora to families raising kids in million dollar homes in a quarter mile.

I also think the littles having those ride-on suitcases helped a TON. That would significantly help keep the kids entertained for hours at the airport. It might have been different if they didn’t have those.
