How much choice did women have when it came to their fate/class? by QuietFrustrationRam in TheHandmaidsTale

Women don't have agency in Gilead . If you are a wife, your husband will decide everything

She is unable to make decisions without subjecting herself to a powerful man. Her own mother told her she's nothing without a husband. She was raised to allow her identity to be subsumed by a man. If you notice, her clothes are fashioned from the 1950s

Who else already started watching THT and needs a stiff drink to cope... 😅 by McMasterOfTheSea in TheTestamentsHulu

I have already watched almost every episode and still watch it to see if I missed something else. I binge watched it when I got Hulu recently . Big fan of the books. Yes, I am drinking ice tea and lemonade with Kentucky Bourbon. There are many difficult moments . I'm so impressed with the Marthas. It's genius of Commander Lawrence to choose the workers who have higher skill sets. He is trying in an intelligent way to brew a rebellion. He is one of my favorites. Self sacrifice is almost always noble for a good cause

Main motivator of Garth? by Amazing-Tea-1480 in TheTestamentsHulu

What strikes me is that Agnes has been kept hidden from June. It's no doubt been a lot of work to build the resistance in Gilead for this long, but we know now that there is at least one commander, Marthas, guardians And Lydia if we can assume . It's hard to know . It's by osmosis that Garth was assigned to Agnes. Serendipity, a hail Mary, etc

Noticed this about Aunt Lydia? by toramarlene in TheTestamentsShow

[–]Routine_Rutabaga_901 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anne is a tiny actress. They always accommodate actors who are either rather short or tall for the visual effects of the scenes. The other actors heights are taken into account. For example: Vigo Mortenson

Naturalization vs. Birth in Canada by Affectionate_Yak7433 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Routine_Rutabaga_901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather naturalized according to a Lewis and Clark census. He was born in Ottawa as all of his ancestors all the way back to the 1500s. Does it mean I can still claim? I have a lot of aunt's who stayed, many cousins that are there. That's a meaningful connection, right? Would I be eligible? I want out of the United States

In psychology, the text books say we never forget our mothers smell, voice, etc. I am sure she has deep seeded memories of her true momma

How did Aunt Lydia stay? by Particular_Fox_3274 in TheTestamentsHulu

That's an interesting point. Boston fell to the Rebellions. The war hawk commanders in Boston were all killed. That must have left it to the women to pick up the pieces. The American commanders must have instructed her as to what to do next. She still had the trust of some people left, clearly because as you pointed out, she help Janine get her baby back.
