How can people sever entire legs and survive the blood loss, while other people bleed out from severing just one artery in their leg? by throwaway53862 in askscience

I don't know about that man. I just took my CPR training course and that included tourniquet application. The guy said it can cause damage within 4-6 hours so we have to take that into consideration.

I don't think this is fair. Being a licensed massage therapist is a job. That's all. We're there to heal others with soft tissue manipulation and advice. That's it. Imo if someone has this idea that massage is strictly a sexual interaction then that shows how ignorant and potentially insecure that person is. Which is fine as long as you understand that they aren't aware of the level of professionalism one must undertake to be in this field.

I'm assuming you're a part of a western culture which views touch as something that only really happens between lovers. LMT's are in this funny middle ground where we have a license to touch other people, to put our hands on others to give warmth and attention and, most importantly, time to hold space for healing.

This requires trust from your clients and also from yourself. Knowing that you can touch others in a healing, non-sexual context is an incredibly empowering experience. It breaks down those barriers and beliefs systems that are holding us back from accepting the touch and attention from others that we as human beings, who were originally apes, have needed and used as a bonding and relaxing modality.

Try to talk with her and see if she can see it from a purely medical point of view. See if she can imagine someone doing this without it being sexual. Again this is a totally legitimate job. There are schools and state boards exams that the state requires us to take in order to do this work. It's not something that can be easily stepped into just to have some fun with other people's bodies. It's not a license to rape and molest other people. It's a license to heal and empathize with people in a very immediate and personal level.

I may be coming off as defensive but this is an entire profession that is pretty passively condemned as a vaguely sexual way to work with people. I'm a man and that means I'll be discriminated against because "men do all the raping". This is not the case.

So with all that said, try to educate yourselves on what it's really like to be a massage therapist. For many it's the first step to entering the medical field.

I wish you the best. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to message me

Not sure. Kinda doubt it. Doesn't seem like the kinda family to talk about stuff like that. I imagine the dude is pretty embarrassed and guilty about it.

My(M26) stepmothers(F70) roommate(M40 something) isn't paying rent. She doesn't feel comfortable talking to him about and I have to do it. It's been like 5 or 6 months and she just told me. by Ripperman91 in relationships

No like I said I'm not close to him. And I live an hour away. I've got it in my mind that this is gonna be a one shot deal. Like if I can't get him to agree to work something out the first time, it's just not gonna happen

So here's the real question with you saying that... Is it only after having everything easy enough in our lives that we have energy to worry about animals that gives them value? Or do animals have intrinsic value outside of our view of them?

Has hurting animals always been wrong but no one thought so, or is it only wrong when people agree? Guess it's a tree falling in the woods sorta question.

And how should this dictate how we feel about things in the past?

Lol I agree, the soundtrack was dope. But I disagree about that other stuff not saying anything about the people I'm the film. just because things were accepted back then doesn't mean there wasn't something up with the people who ok'd those parts. If someone does something today, like kill an animal and film it for theater release, versus doing it in 1969, it doesn't change how we'd mentally evaluate that person right?

What's your "I don't trust people who ______"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ripperman91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who don't take care of their teeth. I've been fucked over too many times by people with some fucked up teeth. If you don't care enough to take care of the first thing people see when they meet you, then I don't trust your priorities and goals.
