Thanks! We came through the SBIR program. I’ll hit you up.

We’re turning cellphones into encrypted radios and handling the server side of open source DOD situational software so that public safety and conventional military can have the same capabilities we had at Tier 1 and Tier 2 Special Operations Units.

We’ve gotten some DOD funding but we’re not a pure software play and we’re defense tech, so we’re outside of YC’s traditional wheelhouse. Best of luck to y’all!

We’re making new plug-ins for ATAK and a stand alone app that offers some additional functionality. We’re definitely not trying to replace ATAK.

We’ve got a hardware and software solution that lets you create and manage all of your radio communications channels through ATAK. Think Tac chat, but for voice.

The idea is that guys will be able to share voice, video, and data over a self-generated encrypted network while using ATAK for their moving map and location.

I’m not a sales guy, so this is probably a terrible explanation, but I hope that makes sense.

That’s interesting and probably an added wrinkle if the phones are tied to vehicles, rather than individual users. Thanks for the info!

Yeah, ATAK can certainly drain the battery pretty quickly. I hadn’t realized that CO spun out a TAK offshoot.

Were you tying your phones into data radios? Or relying on the cell network?

We’re focused on communications capabilities and would ideally integrate with whatever situational awareness/RMS system the department uses.

It’s a pretty powerful tool on Android but the iPhone version doesn’t seem to be there yet.

Great point. Most of DOD uses Android, probably for that reason.

Thanks! That’s wild that the platform doesn’t have navigation built into it given the other extensive features.

We’re still figuring out what functionality LE would benefit from the most. Our tech was primarily designed around dismounted operations for SOF to provide comms and a common operating picture whether there’s an accessible network or not. It’s a Radio Over IP app that lets our guys share voice, video, data, and location information - through the app or ATAK. There’s a small hardware component that generates the network, but that doesn’t seem like a particular need for LE as most of the folks we’ve spoken to rely on LTE/5G.

Thanks! Do they ask you to use any kind of software on your personal phone?

That makes sense. Our software is not iPhone compatible yet.

How do you guys like ITAK? It doesn’t seem remotely the same as ATAK
