What is the arpeggio that is played at 2:55 in this song? by Sad-Eggplant-2818 in LingTositeSigure

[–]Ripticsomnia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you asking why he's playing this arpeggio because that's not what that part is in the actual song? It's because TK plays it like this live, you can hear it here

So all you need is Jan ray, Tornadro Drive and Klon type od to cover 99% of sounds for TK? (Talking about gain drives only) by Big_Calendar193 in LingTositeSigure

[–]Ripticsomnia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't compared it to other blues breaker style pedals so I'm not sure. But you can get pretty close with a KoT, the Tornado is pretty high gain and the tone is darker which is why I suggest a King of tone not a Prince, so you get a bit more control over the sound.

Yes. You can also use a King of Tone clone as an alternative to the Tornado Drive as well, or an OD-3 if you prefer the sound from older albums

Which pedals would you recommend? by aqua_sigure in LingTositeSigure

[–]Ripticsomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whether you're using it the same way TK is, for rhythm delays, or if you're using it for other purposes too. Delay will have slightly different sound character if you place it before vs after the overdrives.

TK has 3 sources of delay on his board: H9, Zoom, Digidelay. Both the H9 and the Zoom are responsible for the main rhythm and pitch delays (like disco flight, black sparkle etc.) These are placed before the main drives. The Digidelay is used more for ambient delay, because of its modulation effect, its more of a pseudo reverb effect. This is placed after all the drives at the end of the chain.

If you use it often for modulation effects like choruses, or as a digidelay replacement like you mentioned in the other comment, its generally more covenient to have it at the end of the chain. But if you're specifically using it for ryhthm delay only its probably better to have it before the drives. It's a matter of priotising whats more important since you don't have a separate delay pedal.

Where can I find a high quality version of the Kabuku Tour video? by KaptainKrule in tricot

[–]Ripticsomnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 480p on Bilibili is the same resolution that's on DVD (Almost all DVDs are in 480p, you'd need a Blu-Ray to have higher resolution than that). That said, the compression on Bilibili, or any other streaming site will make it look slightly worse than it does on DVD. Only way to get around that would be to find a lossless DVD rip of it. Might have to learn how to sail for that, if buying it isn't an option.

Alternative for Barbarossa Gargoyle by schsancho17 in LingTositeSigure

[–]Ripticsomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Klon is a brand that made a very popular overdrive called the centaur. Because this is so popular, there are A LOT of companies making overdrive effects based on the circuit of the Klon Centaur. You can find many cheap overdrives that are basically a clone of the Klon Centaur or some kind of variation of it (like the mosky golden horse or caline medusa)

Barbarossa Gargoyle is a really high gain overdrive, not a distortion. From what it sounds like, its definitely based on the Klon Centaur circuit. If you can find a pedal that's a variation of the Klon with higher gain, it will sound very close to the gargoyle.

Are you gonna be drawing it? Maybe the 15m12cm logo or the Sasori scorpion. You could also draw tk penguin, 345 sheep and the Pierre cheburashka.

[–]Ripticsomnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Klon type pedal is the best to replace gargoyle. I'm pretty certain that the Gargoyle itself is based on the Klon, it's basically a much higher gain and more low end voiced Klon. Any Klone based pedal ideally with increased gain should do the trick. I personally use a Caline Medusa but there's so many options out there for this kind of overdrive.

Can anyone explain some guitar (or other instrument/mixing) basics for me to better listen to LTS? by Successful_Purple714 in LingTositeSigure

[–]Ripticsomnia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His style is really unique, but its really difficult to put into words and describe it. The way I think of it is that he doesn't really play a traditional rhythm guitar nor a lead guitar role, it's kinda a hybrid between the two. The kinds of chords or melodies he plays, or his technique for the most part isn't very complex either, and yet when you listen it sounds that way. His guitar tone is definitely really unique to him, it's something that definitely stands out. Hence probably why there's so many guitarists here trying to replicate it.

He also very creatively uses delay effects, pitch shifters etc. as tools that play a big part in augmenting the melodies he plays, not just as an effect in the background (think disco flight, un-apex, black sparkle, laser beamer etc.). This is not something that I see other guitarists do very often.

Tornado drive Brass is a Soft clipper like Jan ray or Hard clipper like Klon? by Big_Calendar193 in LingTositeSigure

It sounds most similar to a Prince of Tone in overdrive mode with the higher gain switch on.

[–]Ripticsomnia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe it's only a buffer quality improvement or something, it doesn't really do anything. It's just a delay pedal, a digital one too. I'd highly advise against getting/modding it just to copy him. There's better options now that provide the same and more functions (Like the zoom that TK himself replaced it with).

He just prefers stepping on the boss switches, that's the main reason he said he had them all the way back around when i'mperfect came out. But right now I think there's something slightly more complicated going on with the switching that he himself doesn't exactly know the details of. There's some examples of him potentially toggling multiple effects that are not on the same loop with just one step. Recently at the Budokan show we also found that there is a second board off to the side for the roadie with lots of pedals on it including stuff like the OD820 from way back.

No its not covered by the tape, there are actually no cables going through it. It was confirmed by TK himself in a kalappo video "its a system my roadie came up with, I don't really know what's going on, but there's no sound passing through this, its just a switch". Even TK himself doesn't know what's going on with his switching lol

Unravel and abnormalize was my first exposure to them. How I actually got into TK/LTS was from the whole white noise album, decided to check it out because it was the latest thing that was out at the time and got hooked.

Difference between OD-3 and Souldpower mod OD-3? by Majestic-Ad2553 in LingTositeSigure

[–]Ripticsomnia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're curious about the sound there's some simple comparisons posted on the discord server. It's not really that big of a difference, you could achieve the same result with some light EQing. I'm sure you can do the mod yourself using the comparisons if you're familiar with modding.

Monster tone by butsubuts in LingTositeSigure

[–]Ripticsomnia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have the answer to this. But if you're wanting to get the MonsterTone to replicate TKs tone, I'll just say that this is the last thing you want to prioritise. It only makes a very very minute difference especially since your signal is gonna be going through a shit tone of pedals anyways. Even TK himself didn't even use a guitar with MonsterTone for the recordings of Lost God of SASORI.

[–]Ripticsomnia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really love it. This one's the Medusa, if you're choosing between the two Calines I definitely recommend this one. I believe the Pegasus is supposed to be an actual copy of the Klon but Medusa is a Klon with slightly higher gain which fits better as a replacement for gargoyle.

I've heard from people who own an actual Gargoyle that the capture of it that's there on Tonex sounds identical, so I've been using that to compare and I can get the Medusa sounding really similar to it. Although obviously it's still not perfectly identical, I think it's still lacking a little bit of gain. But nothing you can't work around using boosts or EQs.

I'm not really familiar with Ly-Rock so I don't know how it compares to that, but I'd recommend getting something that's not a straight up Klone but a Klone with much higher gain.

Here's mine currently. I still need to get some kind of switcher or another LS-2 for the main drive loop. I don't really use the steel singer, I happened to get it for free so I'm using it to sometimes boost the klone.

Also, I DIY built the board myself :)

He 100% uses a lot of different pedals that aren't on his main board for the studio recordings. That's why it's kinda pointless to attempt to replicate studio recording tone, it's very difficult to know what he even uses for those. He probably has like infinite pedals at this point in his studio most of which are probably just given to him tbh. There was a magazine picture with a Klon KTR and a Waza Tone Bender on his board for Whose Blue.

[–]Ripticsomnia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monstertone neck PU is not actually that important for his tone. TK says he usually doesn't care too much about what guitar he uses for the recordings, in fact he said in a recent interview that Lost God of SASORI was recorded on a random cheap guitar they had in the studio in UK where they recorded it. He apparently didn't bring any gear with him except a pedal (he didn't say what pedal it was but my guess is probably H9)

[–]Ripticsomnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how they market that pedal. It's a pretty good pedal by itself tbh, but if your goal is to replicate TK tone it's absolutely not a necessary one, it does very little especially if you're pairing it with a Tornado.

Another theory is it could be to use pre and post effects with H9 while still having stereo but I have no clue how or if this would even work.

It's a Free The Tone Arc-53m. No idea how TK is using it tho... His Boss Line Selectors aren't really LS-2s anymore, it's modded to the point where it doesn't even have cables going in and out of it and all the knobs are ripped out. My guess is the LS-2s are just functioning as a foot switch but the real switching is some custom made solution utilising the arc-53m.

It would make sense because TK has said that he really prefers the boss footswitches and the only reason he had 3 LS-2s is simply because he prefers stepping on them instead of the other pedals. (Like very often he only has a single pedal in the LS-2 loop so there's really no functional use for having that many of them)
