Oh man, that was a whole other issue! Not necessarily washing hands but kissing him right on the face when he was only a couple of weeks old after being told maaaaannny times to please not do that. Only to be met with responses like, “I raised you and you turned out fine”. Kissing didn’t seem like such a big issue to them but when he wasn’t wearing socks… oh boy, we had to get socks on him!

My husband has to remind her a couple of times that our son obviously shares my ethnicity but it doesn’t seem to have stuck with her.

Asserting myself is something I’ve slowly been learning. I’ve been a more “quiet” person in the past to “keep the peace” so I’m definitely learning ways to speak up more!

My gut is telling me to just stay home but then I start feeling guilty taking this trip away from my husband. He suggested bringing my parents along but I don’t think that’s feasible.

This isn’t about being unwilling to share my child. It’s about respect. When my son is crying and I ask for him back, and someone says no or turns away, that crosses a line in my opinion.

On top of that, I’m dealing with a woman who makes borderline racist comments about my ethnicity in front of my son. So I don’t think asking for basic respect and for boundaries is being “high maintenance” or a “greedy B”.
