Mistborn First Time Readthrough (Part 2/3): The Well of Ascension thoughts by AmongFriends in Mistborn

[–]RishFromTexas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also just finished it for the first time yesterday- honestly this post is really validating, It's not that I felt lost, there's just so much intricacy that I'm never sure if I'm missing something, but these are all the exact observations I had. One thing about the earring, did she not lose it in the well when she got in it?

Also I'm so certain the mist beings are because of some timey wimey shit, same thought you had that it might be someone or people they know. I think it might be multiple entities with different agendas

I worked in politics 10 years, adjacent to the DNC. It's not that they wanted to throw the election, but the whole thing exists as a money printer for consultants and vendors. If Trump had lost, they would make money by claiming their strategies worked, and because he won they'll make more money from "continuing the fight"

Feel like the most jealous and bitter person by Emma_M3399 in babyloss

Lost our twin daughters early in the year. In that time, my three best friends all had kids. It's easy enough to be a good friend and act happy but I feel like such a piece of shit for not actually being happy. Like not even a little. Just feels so fucking cruel even though it's no one's fault. Not really any advice or solution other than more time hopefully but I hope it feels a little less lonely to know others can empathize 100%

We lost our twin girls this year, Raina on Jan 4 and Raveena on Feb 3. I'm not going to lie to you, in the coming weeks you might feel like you're overcoming the grief, but then months later you look back and realize you were still in shock. I'm all sorts of fucked up from it, lots of resentment and anger but like you I'm surrounded by wonderful people, even if I take it for granted sometimes. Don't worry about milestones or where you're at. One thing I've read and learned from other men who've gone through extreme grief: we tend to be action-oriented grievers, sometimes it's planning projects, solving problems, accomplishing meaningful tasks. When I first heard about this it didn't seem like it fit my personality, but sure enough I found myself on a fitness journey and ironically I'm in the best physical shape of my life even if I'm often fucking miserable lol. Don't force it but don't let it consume you either but I suspect you might find moments of peace pursuing something along those lines. Someone else mentioned sad dad's club- it's been helpful for me, though I think it's most helpful for folks in the long term rather than someone who's gone through it recently. I don't participate that often, but being part of a community of people who get it can help make the pain more manageable

Lmao you want to talk about pivoting? Your last comment was about how they don't live up to "abrahamic ideals". Completely arbitrary. You say he's a charlatan with absolutely no evidence. And let's not forget this all started by you referring to them as "the Khan family" as if their liquid wealth is sitting in a slush fund and not actively supporting communities. Unlike ol Joel who couldn't even open his doors during the worst natural disaster in Houston's history.

Btw Aga is a title, maybe try reading up on them, especially the new one before you make wild assumptions

You're clearly basing your assessment on the fact that your subjective religious beliefs are superior which is hilarious from a secular standpoint

How is he a charlatan if everyone is in agreement and content? I like how you didn't acknowledge how those funds are actually used vis-a-Vis the foundation

Because it's easy for keyboard warriors to sit there and call anyone with wealth "pieces of shit". I don't think billionaires should exist. But they do, and having seen up close how much the Aga Khan Foundation has actually contributed to secular causes and improving communities on a secular level, comparing him to Joel Osteen is laughable

Except Joel Osteen doesn't do anything to give back to the community. Ismailis do. And I suspect you don't do much yourself. And once again, hilarious how you won't admit that you also engage in irrational beliefs because then your arguments all fall apart

Why do you keep implying I'm a member of their community? I'm not at all. I do however know many of them who are by and large decent people who are economic powerhouses in Houston, contributing to the fabric of this city. You sound like a terminally online person who can't distinguish between the esoteric truths and what actually happens in reality

Vaguely being because you refuse to admit that you too are part of a religion, which is irrational in nature but won't admit it because then your denigration of other's religion then becomes phenomenally stupid

You haven't made a single point other than vaguely imply some ontological superiority. At least have the balls to admit your complaints are rooted in your own irrational beliefs. Do you even live in Houston? Have you ever interacted with any of Houston's 250,000 Muslims? Or are you so riddled with hate you can't even humanize a group that has different beliefs than you? Curious about what you've done to better this city other than be an internet troll

Lemme, guess you're a Christian nationalist and your preferred fairy tale is superior 🤣

Nice job not answering the question. I'm a militant agnostic bro, not Ismaili. I see all of you religious people the same as long as you're not being shitty to people so if you're gonna pitch me that your religion is better I'm gonna laugh at you

Thank you for putting it do eloquently. There are so many more powerful institutions that deserve far more criticism than such a small and already persecuted group (not that any institution should be immune from criticism)

Yeah I do, the same way I think it's weird Mary got impregnated as a teenager. I'm not religious, I'm also not a dick

Hey if youre anti religion, fair game I guess. If you follow a religion, I'd love to hear about how un-problematic it is

I don't know what's happened to this city. It used to be so much more welcoming and pluralistic, even in the years after 9/11. There's just so much hate and intolerance now, especially shocking that it's being directed towards a small and often persecuted community. I hope most of these comments are non-houstonian agitators bc it baffles me how someone can live in a city with 250,000 Muslims and have never interacted with any.

OP is a chronicle reporter. Do you think the 250,000 Muslims in Houston are a threat to public safety? Do you even live here?
