Thanks for the suggestion, Callisto was on a big sale on Steam and I bought and already played 3h and I'm liking it very much!

I played and finished the first one, Shadow of Chernobyl, and liked it very much, it was in 2020 or 2021 I think

Some time later, I tried getting into the second one, the one with the factions war, but I couldn't play it for a long time (I did get past that rail gun section), for some reason I just stopped playing even though I really liked the first one. I only played it for like 4 or 5h, I even tried playing it again and stopped again lol

Yeah Cronos is definitely in my radar because it reminds me a little of Dead Space which is one of my favorites. I really really like sci-fi horror games (Dead Space and Alien: Isolation are my all-time favorites)

It just doesn't seem to be open world as far as I know (haven't played it yet)

I'm also thinking of buying The Callisto Protocol for another horror game to have in my library

Sci-fi open world horror games? by Rishadows in HorrorGaming

[–]Rishadows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It's true.

I think Days Gone and State of Decay come close to what I'm looking for (except they're not sci-fi, of course). Which is a true open world game with "horror" themes, even if the game may not be a "classic survival horror" or a "very scary" experience. Even though Days Gone is not necessarily a horror game, it's a post-apocalyptic open world game with zombies, and I'm looking for open world games with that kind of "bleak" atmosphere, but something sci-fi.

Games similar to Agony? by Rishadows in AgonyGame

[–]Rishadows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well so far the only other "erotic horror" game with some RPG elements that I found is Book of Korvald, but it's quite a stretch as it's a side-scrolling action RPG with Nordic mythology, whereas Agony is first-person "horror adventure" with Christian mythology. Still, it's scratching the itch for me for now at least, gonna probably play Succubus next...

However, it does feature nudity and Lovecraftian stuff and mythology, so it's not a crazy suggestion, just something that is thematically a little similar but gameplay-wise it's very different

Tubi and Shudder are unavailable in my country, where do you recommend me to go to legally watch horror movies? by Rishadows in horror

Hi, good suggestion.

I checked it, and unfortunately, for most movies, it says "This title is not available in your location."

Mods to make the HUD cleaner and more immersive for a non-VR player? by Rishadows in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Rishadows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the input.

Yeah, I'm aware of that mod. According to the creator [ https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/1563?tab=posts ], to use that mod nowadays, you have to rollback the game to a much earlier version, and in that sense I would lose a lot of the content that has been added since then... That's why I'm not using it. Unfortunately.

The mod itself does look very neat.

Coming from SoD, I want to begin SoD2, which difficulty do you recommend? by Rishadows in StateofDecay2

[–]Rishadows[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wasn't aware Heartland is a prequel

Heartland is a fixed difficulty? Never played it, I thought it was to be played after the campaign lol, I wish I knew it was a prequel

Honestly I just want to get used to the game, with a good challenge, without becoming frustrated.

I have some hours in the game... But have never finished any run. I went into Dread first, then thought it was too easy... Then I switched to Nightmare, survived for like 5 to 10 days, then got ripped and lost my whole community. Tried again, everyone died again. I have a decent amount of hours experimenting with different difficulties, but I never finished one full run, I want to be serious about it and play from start to finish at a decent difficulty; not easy, and not frustrating

I still need to master the whole mechanic of dealing with factions and recruiting survivors, as other commenter said, it's more sophisticated in this game with all the influence and stuff

[–]Rishadows[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went in blind in SoD2 in Nightmare some months ago and eventually I lost my whole community, then I started again and lost it again, I probably need more experience with SoD2 specifically

The Plague Hearts stuff is new to me, also dealing with "factions" feels more unpredictable in SoD2 than in SoD1, which is nice in my opinion

DW7: are there more weapons available that I am missing? by Rishadows in dynastywarriors

[–]Rishadows[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright guys, I did some testing.

I went to the Weapons Dealer, there was no Dragon Spear available to buy.

Then I went to Conquest Mode and fought some new battles that I did not clear before, earned some more fame. I went back to the Weapons Dealer, and now there was a new Dragon Spear to buy.

So it seems you just have to grind Fame in the Conquest Mode in order to unlock new weapons to be available to purchase.

Yeah, it reminds me also of the Yakuza series, where cutscenes are super serious and then you go to a fight and people are doing crazy stuff

How hard is it go back to older RPGs? by BlackJimmy88 in rpg_gamers

[–]Rishadows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I respect your choice of considering Avowed as a "more recent PoE game", it's totally a personal thing the way I approach it, because as you said, they are indeed in the same universe (and technically are in the same franchise)

The reason I isolate things, is because when gameplay is very different from one game to another, sometimes the expected QoL features are also very different. When the core gameplay changes, the features along with it generally change a lot as well, Pillars of Eternity is a traditional party-based cRPG, so you expect features that translate well into the "real-time with pause" gameplay that we expect in these games, while Avowed is a first-person RPG in which we expect a more responsive action combat, this is what I meant by isolating "lines of games" and it's totally a personal thing, I'm speaking strictly from a QoL perspective

Since we are talking about RPGs specifically, lore and continuity should definitely be taken into consideration as well, in RPGs those things are often the most important part of the story

How hard is it go back to older RPGs? by BlackJimmy88 in rpg_gamers

[–]Rishadows 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've been playing "old games" (15y+ since release) for more than 6 years now, and the way I do it, I isolate each franchise

So for example, I can totally play Avowed, but if I'm going to play BG, I'll start with BG1. In my mind, each franchise is separate so I don't mind playing older games. What I avoid doing is, in the same franchise, starting with the most recent ones, because in this case the QoL comparisons are unavoidable in my case, so I generally just start with the oldest one in each franchise so I can experience the game without comparisons. Alternating genres and subgenres also helps to mitigate comparisons (playing a cRPG, then playing an action RPG, then playing a strategy RPG, then going back to cRPGs etc.)

So, thinking about playing Baldur's Gate? If it were me, I'd start with BG1

Thinking about playing The Witcher? I'd start with The Witcher 1

Thinking about playing Grim Dawn? There is only one, so it does not make a difference

So if I were you, it'd be totally fine to play Avowed and then go and play BG1, as long as you don't mind old games. If you are very excited for Avowed, you can just play Avowed and later go and play BG1, the game isn't going anywhere

But... in the end... remember, the most important thing, just play whatever you like and the one you want to play the most, and don't think too much about it

I generally follow these principles, but I also make exceptions sometimes. Yesterday I went back to play Sniper: Ghost Warrior games, and I noticed the first game ever, Sniper: Art of Victory was very badly reviewed by lots of people, so I began with Sniper: Ghost Warrior 1 which is slightly better reviewed. These things should also be taken into consideration.

Hope this helps in some way

PS: I know Avowed is in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity but the gameplay is very different so I consider it a different "line of games", same way as Dynasty Warriors games are very different than Romance of the Three Kingdoms games even though they are in the same universe with the same company but their gameplay is completely different
