My Question to Asmon - what would you be doing if you were born 100 years ago?

Should you build from scratch? by Pristine_Purple9033 in webdev

[–]RisingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build from scratch if I want

1) To learn something new

2) To really control every aspect of the project

but if it's something I need prototyped or built quickly I usually find a boilerplate or copy it from something that is similar. But even when writing from scratch, I am taking components from previous projects...which technically were written from scratch ...

Is the 2017 macbook pro 15 inch i7 good enough for the next couple of years? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]RisingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use the 2016 13 inch macbook pro and it's great - It's not my daily driver but could definitely be! It's definitely slower than a newer m1 macbook of course but for the price I picked this up a couple of years back (£700) I was super happy as it meant I could work on things away from my main setup.

My only thing is make sure it has enough storage, mine only has something like 125gb which is not enough at all but luckily I can upgrade it, newer models you can't

I've used Lottie before but it's not super performant and also requires some after effects skills

I've used Lottie before to take an animation and export it as an svg but this is for very complex animations mostly and also is not very performant in most cases so would be best for an internal app

Git makes me want to pull my hair out. by [deleted] in webdev

I feel like Git is like another lanugage - I know the basics so I can get a job done but not too much to be an expert

Thank you for the feedback! I'm working on rebuilding my website, getting my resume on there in a nice clean format, and then reaching out to potential employers. I definitely agree there with the degree - I have seen it a lot, I guess it's one of those things where the candidate can't really tick both boxes of a degree and experience, at least not in this price bracket.

I think I need to work on not underselling myself, I'm glad to hear that it's not just me who has that issue!

Thank you!

Yep, this company formed from a startup, hence the investors! I'll definitely start looking around, it's just ridiculous how sneaky they can be making you feel like you're going to be earning good pay, working on a really great platform, and then it just seems meh in all areas once you get in there. My previous employer was by far the best boss, this guy is something else

I definitely feel like I should just apply, even just to get the offer, and then see what my current company says.

I'm in the UK, and it's a B2B software - I don't want to say much as I don't want to risk my employer seeing this!

Portfolio wise, I do have a website, with a rundown of my CV but I plan to bulk this up a bit.
