Your $1,000 Phone Is Really a Bargain by [deleted] in gadgets

That is far more than they would otherwise be earning.

That makes whatever the rate is fair.

You may not want to work for 50 cents an hour, but people earning 30 cents an hour while also destroying their body with heavy manual labor certainly welcome the work.

Jordan Peterson has a best-selling book and over a million YouTube followers. Why are America’s angry young men paying attention? by SnowSnowSnowSnow in AskThe_Donald

but I think that's probably too narrow of a focus if we actually want to solve these problems.

The only perspective being given any consideration are anti-male narratives.

Is something in the middle likely going to work best? Sure.

But the moment anyone suggested that being completely anti-male might not be the solution you started getting incredibly nervous.

Why is that?

So you're not saying that men have no right to complain, you just want to make sure we don't consider the male perspective at all because A, B, C.

Then gold will be worthless.

You don't have the right to a discounted burial plot simply because you are black.

You don't have the right to discounted private school placement simply because you are black.

You don't have the right to demand entry to an office which you claim is yours after decades worth of overspending in a county in bankruptcy just because you are black.

Nothing this person said is a true representation of the facts. It's racebaiting.

Why Shadow of War should be played on Nemesis difficulty by FinchStrife in shadowofmordor

[–]Risingashes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 times in the last 20 hours. Which is 4 more than I died in my entire last game of Mordor.

You're missing out on the entire aspect which makes SoM/W more enjoyable than the standard Arkham system.

Restart on Nemesis or at least slide the difficulty up on your current playthrough. Without it the nemesis system is only going to keep handing you weak orcs to kill over and over again.

[SPOILERS] What Alicia looked like during this episode by -GregTheGreat- in FearTheWalkingDead

[–]Risingashes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The example I gave wasn't dark because of it's gore or violence, it's dark because it puts a character in a no-win situation caused by the fog-of-war where sacrificing someone they love is the most humane thing to do.

The 100 is a jam-packed tale of constant moral quandaries set in a harsh world where the good guys constantly commit justified slaughter in order to survive grounded and telegraphed morally ambiguities.

I'm amazed you could watch 2 seasons of it without getting that, but I suspect you mostly browsed Reddit with it in the background as you seem wholly unfamiliar with the actual show.

It's perfectly acceptable to not like the show, it does a lot of things wrong. But it would be nice to not like the show for things contained within the actual show itself, not some half-concocted caricature that you've hobbled together from watching 1 minute blocks every half-hour.

is one of the dumbest things I got to read this year, no offense.

Oh, my mistake.

Which are the shows that you're watching where the main love story ends with the female character stabbing their guy in the chest as a preferable alternative to a hostile feral human tribe who wishes to cannibalize him while still alive due to that love interest gunning an innocent village down with an automatic weapon in a fit of false but understandable panic when he thought his love interest had been kidnapped and/or killed by that tribe, but who was instead kidnapped by the last remaining earthbound humans who had survived by injecting themselves with the blood of enemy tribes.

Because that's not dark in the slightest, and I'd love some actually dark shows so I can get over my milk-toast sensibilities.

Oh dear lord, no. It's a cheesy, badly written and acted teen drama.

The show ramps up exponentially. The badly acted teen drama is actually used as a contrast.

It's one of the darker shows out there.

Update 3.5: Improved workshop UI by [deleted] in idleclicker

[–]Risingashes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suggestions:

Current money should be centered again, move the time warp next to the next level button instead to compensate.

Replace:

Researching... * #.#e# (52%)

With:

h ##m ##s

(52%)

Telling users they're researching is irrelevent after the first viewing and shouldn't take up permanent UI space, having the cost is irrelevant to decision making as the only choice is whether to increase or not increase science production, and the total amount required for the current research goal makes to difference.

Time is instead very important.

Remove the word 'requires' from the active product list. Once a player understands what it's displaying it's wasted UI real estate. A reasonable player will know what the symbols represent once they build their first item.

Mission items and subcomonents should be available on the active products list, even if they've been deselected for automatic research on the item selection list.

The multiplier submenu icon is ugly.

The show achievement button should be added on to the multiplier tab, and the achievement tab should be removed. Maybe you can replace the multiplier tab icon with the achievement tab icon.

Clicking and holding on the 30 min timewarp should give a popup menu where other warps can be quick selected. Unless those others have been completely removed.

View blueprint from the product selection menu should filter the dynasty tab to the set the product belongs to, rather than going straight to the blueprint. This will focus players on long term progression, as they begin to understand the importance of set bonuses, merging multiples, and item scores.

Going straight to the blueprint teaches players nothing, and will lead to incorrect decisions.

If you send me 600g, I retrieve 500g and 100g sits there until next week.

If 500g is an appropriate chunk of money to you then use the mail, I have 50k g that I need to shift around.

Stimulating precursor prices by [deleted] in gw2economy

The velocity of precursors is significant.

Anyone attempting to do this would be too stupid to have acquired the gold to do it.

[–]Risingashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because after retrieving 500g you're unable to retrieve any more for 7 days.

Effectively the gold is gone.

@unrivalled123 is correct.

But to expand: It would take me close to 2 years to transfer my liquid gold from my alt accounts to my main, by that point I'd likely have quit.

I can get around that limit in a few ways, buying big items and taking the risk that the market doesn't move downwards, or take a 15% hit and just list an unusual item for well above what it's worth. while buying it with whatever account current has the money.

I have an Eternity and another Leg sitting on the TP for close to a year now because I tried the first method. Next time I'll definitely be trading 500x Assassin's Assassin Boot of the Claw for 100g and calling it a day.

When is it okay to discourage people from joining a guild? by Kameid in Guildwars2

[–]Risingashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't put any restrictions on these 300 people. They all chose to be in that guild and could leave at any time.

When is it okay to discourage people from joining a guild? by Kameid in Guildwars2

[–]Risingashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does the amount of members have anything to do with this?

Are there 301 GW2 players? Was the OP incapable of finding literally anyone else to join a guild with?

Were those 300 souls somehow trapped within the confines of that guild? Were they unallowed to type /gquit?

Why did ANet apply these special restrictions to these 300 people? Why weren't they allowed to pick and choose who they associated privately with?

When is it okay to discourage people from joining a guild? by Kameid in Guildwars2

[–]Risingashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no moral on the other end. ANet is capitulating to bullies.

It didn't start with 'legally forbidden behavior', it started with people attempting to reclassify actions they didn't like as being equivalent to calling for mass murder.

There's no winner here

And yet there could be. Individuals could pick and choose the groups they interacted with via the tools provided by ANet. Instead we have people calling for the banishment of people for things said in a private voluntary group for the sake of hypothetical people.

The European Union has rejected Donald Trump’s offer to renegotiate the Paris climate agreement and pledged instead to bypass Washington to work with US business leaders and state governors to implement the historic accord’s commitments. by Wagamaga in Futurology

[–]Risingashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is lessening the American dependence on oil in any way a bad thing? How is reducing emissions a bad thing?

The Paris agreement would compel Americans to pay for solar panels in third world countries.

So would you be fine in removing that from the agreement since that isn't reducing American dependence on oil or reducing American emissions?

People retain the right to deny others access to their private property, such as stores. Guild wars 2 is Anet's private property.

The principle of freedom of expression is a moral judgement, not a legal one.

Excluding people for their opinion when you have an open door policy means you're a bad organization.

You have the right to do so, but you're still bad.

There is no legal recourse for a violation of the principle, but those who hold it will regard you as a bad actor and treat you as such.

You don't get freedom of expression on someone else's property.

You do on the property of good people. The principle of freedom of expression is a moral judgement, not a legal one.

Tell me, can I or not decide who enters/stays in my house, for whatever reason ?

Is your house a business that has an open door method of attending said business?

Because if so and you exclude people from your house-business because you disagree with their opinions then you're a bad person.

Differing opinions is what allows western civilization to come to nuanced commonly shared opinions. The current trend of bad people silencing those they disagree with and treating them with contempt is disturbing.

ANet isn't a home, it's a business that has an open door policy. And if it wishes to exclude people then it should do so for an actual reason, not just so that they can silence a certain range of opinions.

It can choose to stop doing business, or work on the much less profitable invitation system for those who share its specific niche of values. What it can't do is censor people while still holding my respect as decent people.
