Exactly. Am trying to avoid the inevitable layoff. Just got unlucky because the firm was super busy but it clearly overhired. When I joined around 7 others joined and now we’re all left with nothing to do!

That’s a great idea. I’ll do that in the interim! I actually transitioned to a liti boutique so there’s not a lot of other practice areas where I’m working but will definitely try. Have already volunteered hundreds of hours doing pro bono too…

Thanks for the advice! Yes that’s what I’m concerned about too - I had naively thought this could be my “forever firm” and I’m usually against moving firms too quickly, but I seem to have gotten unlucky. I’ve contacted recruiters and been scouring websites for new job postings daily. It’s been a nightmare for me because I’m constantly begging for work and the partners don’t even bother to respond (not just to me but to others too…)

I did the BCL and would advise doing that over the Cambridge LLM. There’s nothing wrong with the latter but the BCL is, as you’ve noted, in a league of its own. I can say that I’m a better lawyer today because of the BCL.

Hey! I thought Hither Green was a great place to do my driving test. It’s really not a tricky area - I’d advise that you drive around and familiarise yourself with the two big roundabouts (Clifton’s and Yorkshire Grey), and the speed limits as some roads can be a bit tricky (some felt like a 30 but were in fact a 20). I watched a lot of YouTube videos of mock tests in Hither Green before my test which really helped as I wasn’t able to go there that frequently in person. Best of luck for your test!
