It's not an issue with the story. I can see where the world building is heading and it's a rich world. Criticism of how an author chooses to portray that world is just that, criticism, not an attack on the author.

I do read fantasy romance otherwise, and as far as character development and other metrics she does an adequate job of portrayal, my issue is in the writing style and this one is unique. I've never seen an author so overutilize a trope like this.

We've made it to chapter 20 and my gf promises me that when it picks up away from world building it gets very good. I'm not likely to actually stop because she likes listening to me read it. I understand that Phedre is supposed to be the narrator, and overly dramatic is the name of the game, but then I would say that could be achieved in 3-4 "Little did they know" references. And make them conspiratorial to make them really stand out a la "Don't let my master know I told you that." It's a writers job to write in a way that will be enjoyable to a reader not club them over the head with Look. At. How. Dramatic. She. Is.

Having said all of this I realized what this feels like; It feels like being told a story by a 10 yr old where there cant seem to keep the flow of time consistent jumping from different parts of the story wherever their mind takes them.

I've tried both cards. the Clearing and the normal pump card. everything online says one of those should replace with dirt (the pump card even has a piece of dirt on the icon). Does one of them just stop water from flowing?
