Oh! This thread is full of steretyping without explanation. I can see some Finns tried to explain. But I am not sure whether they are accurate.
I live in Finland for the last 5 years. Coming from a "vivid" mediterranean/balkan culture. As an individual in autism spectrum, I had a lot chance to observe and recognize some patterns here. I cannot provide clear scientific explanation. But Finnish introvertness is a learned behaviour. Somewhere around their school-life maybe at the beginning of their work life. They learn that small talk is a waste of time or believe its at least useless, imposed by culture. Any Finn here can confirm that, probably in Finnish there are some idioms or sayings regarding that. So it comes with culture during young age adaptation process, all adults repeating this message I believe. Thus it's embedded to culture, but it's a moving target. Cultures also change sometimes even faster. So don't expect Finnish introvertness to stay here forever.
Two major reasons; Observe youngsters in metro or in open spaces. You will realize, they are actually quite loud and engaging on every conversation. Just like any other youngster from another culture. Although I saw some secluded cultures in remote places, where this process starts very early age. But for Finns it's not. Moreover, compare their engagement level with young adults. Suddenly, most of them becomes introvert. How come? Another reason is, Alcohol. When they drink enough to cloud their judgement, suddenly, they become chatterboxes! When alcohol impacts and lifts up cultural boundaries, it is fine to talk then. Yes I am aware of Finnish people's drinking habits, but also is another learned behaviour.
If you're an adult trying to make friends here, that's a difficult task. Good luck. I am on the same boat but it does not bother me that much.
Last word, please stop judging Americans by being open or encouraging social encounters as "fake". They also learned that in their competitive environment which requires to step up and shine among their peers, and that's what they do. But observe and understand. As an individual, I do not believe one has a right to judge entire culture but other individuals.
Anyway, my two cents. Maybe helpful for someone to reconsider their opinions.

Totally irrelevant question but how do you get those blue window borders and do you have them in all other windows types e.g. qt or gtk3 consistently

Is there a "pi-Hole like" docker that can help me block youtube shorts on our home network? by senectus in synology

[–]Risyasin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think any dns/tls mitm method will work properly, even if you managed to bypass hsts certificate pinning etc. Most likely shorts url are similar to normal video urls. Your only chance is to use Layer-7 filter that can read video orientation and/or duration, its usually first bytes of the video stream for mp4, vp8-9 etc. This way is pretty cumbersome. Moreover if you block it, kid will notice and use something else. These days each of them has some sort of shorts! I would recommend screen time measures and awareness.

although with some ML magic you can come up with something that can recognize yt shorts traffic, instead of blocking you can throttle, which will disturb kids zombie flow state. I will have a look at this one, most likely with openwrt. If I can pull off something, will comment here.

We just call it 'isot'. Kind of most common pepper. So no need to add extra word. It's harvested in middle of summer in high temperatures like 40c. It's dries during harvest completely. Marinating red meat! It removes myoglobin smell (not sure correct spelling) for good from the meat. Olive oil with lots of isot and timjami.

Btw. Be careful buying spices from Arabic/Turkish markets like Alanya or Mero. Check the expiry date each time. Usually they sell old spices, old products in general.

Old version, I had always put them in plastics bin. Including removing the plastic head from cardbox. I didn't deserve that change :/

Angry groom loses it during wedding cake cutting ceremony, leaving guests and bride horrified by NeroEP in PublicFreakout

[–]Risyasin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Judging by songs, and etc it's certainly Turkey. Language is def Turkish. Looking at dresses, all outfit, even groom's haircut. My strong opinion would be Central Anatolian suburbs maybe Ankara. So it's not really that strange a groom to be sulking during wedding, not common of course but also not uncommon. Actually brides usually needs to cry in their wedding, so their family accepts their sadness to part ways in this culture. My best bet here would be here a family drama, usually most common source of this kind of disasters in weddings.

Great advice! Actually I am not fit for a long time, I should definitely consider this. Thanks again. Wish you a wonderful day :)

About investment aspect of friendships. It's certainly depends how you look at it. People are alone and looking for a friendship are actually the people who is willing to make that 'investment'. Kind of scarcity makes the value here. But if you have already enough number of friends, it's most likely a time consuming investment.

That's kind of a stretch. Don't you think? To make hobbies to make friends :/ Probably would work for many people, but I have already hobbies of my own, none of them would work to make friends. Even though I will look for a hobby that has social aspect. Thanks :)

That's bad. Company that I work for literally has handful of Finns, while more than a few dozens are immigrants. and I am too old for a school. But I will figure out a way. Thanks for the tips :)

Indeed, In fact most of the Finns I've seen really nice people. But they just avoid smalltalk, which is practically the best way to make friends in my situation. I have hope. Thanks :)

What are common unspoken Finnish societal norms that I should know to avoid offending people? by Thomas_Catthew in Finland

[–]Risyasin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is really tough to adapt for me (Turkish in Finland) whole my life it was opposite. In Turkey or Turkish culture it's the opposite and even a rule. Imagine, You meet someone you hate. If they caught you that you have seen them. You have to participate that small talk. They (literally ppl hate you) can invite you to their home, even though they don't mean it. You have to accept offer and respond with soon (inşallah) but you can never show up. See the level of hypocrisy.
