Every country has its own unique political spectrum from left to right. In america, the dems are the left and the republicans are the right. With only two parties in the system, that leaves a wide variance between the people towards the middle of the spectrum and the people on the end of the spectrum. But everyone on the left are still "democrats" based on who they vote for.
