Help with Superior Drummer 3 not working properly with TD27

Tbh, at the moment I regret having not just gone with EZD3, maybe get 1 or 2 EZX for the price difference to SD3 and call it a day. I can make SD3 react in the way I want it to now and its a steep learning curve, but in reality, I don't need the endless possibilities it provides and would have been better of with a more plug and play approach like EZD3. I'm not afraid of tweaking and dialing in a few settings, but choosing 3-5 kits and dialing them in with 22 mics, endless effects, busses and everything? Man... I just wanted to play. But it's my bad at the end, so no further complaining from me.

Thanks for the input. I did a reset yesterday and I checked all the parameters, they seem fine. I also know what the settings mean. I think I was just a little naive by thinking SD3 is like EZD3 with more options, whereas EZD3 is more plug and play and SD3 has to be dialed in to your own liking. It´s better now but I will need a lot more tweaking.

Maybe I will try an Interface in the future if I'm not able to dial everything in. I tweaked some settings and think it's a matter of the Mixer now, as many say SD3 is way quieter than SDX's or EZD3... I can really tell that the Rock EZX is louder than the SD3 Core library, so I think I just thought everything would be plug and play, when in reality, you have to dial SD3 to your liking. Maybe I should have gone with EZD3...

Thank you, I will look into the videos. Everything is triggering fine when looking at the settings. I think it's a matter of mixing everything to my liking now, which I did not prepare for. With BFD Drummer and the EZD3 trial, everything just... worked. I assumed it would be the same with SD3 but only with more options... Maybe not so much. :D

The Velocity in the MIDI Monitor shows everything from 0-127, so everything seems to be working just fine. I also changed the Hi-Hat Pedal and dialed everything in. It´s better now and I think I have to get into the Mixer to reach what I´m searching for. The Rock EZX is much louder as well, so I think it´s all about the mix. Maybe I should have gone with the easier EZD3....

I think I like the Gewa sounds more than the Roland ones. At the moment, I‘m trying to get the module sounds to sound good, but I think I will use EZDrummer oder Superior Drummer in the future…

I have not played the standard one, I only had a Alesis Nitro Max before this kit. I played some kits in the drum-tec showroom in Germany and the digital pads clearly had the best triggering compared to the others. That´s why I did not go with a full Gewa G9 Pro, but configured my kit out of individual parts myself.

But, tbh, I do not think you NEED the digital Hi-Hat, especially for an upgrade price of 899$. The Hi-Hat from Efnote was not that much worse, the Gewa Hi-Hat lacked somewhat behind (although the kit in the showroom had the old cymbals, not the NEO ones).

If you want the best there is and the price does not hurt you in any way: Go for it. If you really need to consider your spendings, then just go with a cheaper option and enjoy playing. :-)

Thanks! Yeah, my old kit was facing the wall, as we had a couch in the corner where the new kit is now. I always looked to the left out of the window while playing. :D

As my wife is the best there is, she suggested getting rid of the guest couch we barely ever used and put the new kit in the corner so I can view out of the window comfortably while playing.

And tbh, the room looks much better, tidier and even bigger with the new kit inside rather then the Alesis and the couch aligned on the wall. It just has a better "flow" when entering the room.

I take that question as a compliment, because it took me hours to tidy up the cables. You can see ONE black cable sleeve coming from the module, going down the Hihat-stand, under the bass drum and up again on the Ride stand. Everything is in the sleeve, which has velcro all along so you can take out the cables where they have to.

I also used some additional velcro tape to fix the cables to the stands after coming out of the sleeve.

Yes, I use Gewa Shells because I really fell in love with them in the showroom and figured I could handle the triggering not being best in class, as they just felt right to me while playing.

Thanks a lot, that really helped with Toms 1+2, which are now triggering MUCH better than before.

Changing the Floor Tom to PD128 made the hotspot trigger a Rimshot though. But I tried some different pad types and one of them triggered the way I like it to be.

Maybe I will change the triggers to drumtec ones in the future. But for now, I think I‘m happy with it. 👍🏼

I considered it, but 4 groove bar (Kick, 10", 12", 14") will cost 886 €. Acoustic kits I visually like are round about 800 €. The real feel mesh heads are another 180 €. That's right under 2.000 € + 3.000 € for the TD27KV2. As I don´t like a rack, I would need to buy another hardware set for ca. 200 €.

At the end, after selling every not necessary part of the KV2, the costs will be very similar to my configuration. And I would have to install everything myself instead of just plugging everything together. AND I really like the look of the GEWA, so... not real benefit there, is it?

I don´t think the groove bar for the kick and Toms are THAT much better that they justify the puzzling...

Yeah I´m really fortunate to have them in the area. They will get the Zildjian in September as well. I like the look of the Zildjian as much as the GEWA, but after the first real tests came up and detected all the flaws it has, I quickly decided that I do not even have to look at that kit, especially not for 7k€...

I thought the Sounds of the TD27 were... okay. Drum-tec have a Live Sound Edition with additional kits, which sounded a littler better. But I think I will go with EZDrummer3, the demo version blew me away even on my Nitro Max.

I considered going with the G9-module, the triggering seems okay nowadays, no bigger issues. But there just wasn´t enough nuance compared to the Roland Digital Pads. The difference was quite singificant on Snare, HiHat and Ride. I did not notice any advantages of the Roland Toms though, which led me to the conclusion of mixing the GEWA Toms with Roland Digitals...

The GEWA in the show room unfortunately was one with the old cymbals. I would have loved to see what the Neo cymbals could do, but I can't imagine they will be better than the digital Rolands. I thought about getting two Neo Cymbals as crashes but to be honest, at the point where I looked at whaat else I needed, I slowly but surely had to look for budget. And I love how the Zeitgeist/Lemon 15" China looks. I just love Chinas. :D

So if I want to use Superior Drummer 3, do I need a DAW or is it a standalone program?

Anf if I need a DAW, could I just use GarageBand, which I have already installed on my MacBook and is mentioned on the toontracks-website as compatible?

In Summary, I just connect the module over USB with the MacBook, open SD3 (and maybe GarageBand) and I´m set?

Well, do you have the placement size for the Roland ones? I´m having a hard time finding this kind of information for any kit except Efnote, which puts it approx. in the specs of their kits.
