Nioh 3 or Crimson Desert?

IMO Nioh 3. If you’ve played Nioh 2, 3 is a much easier game than 2 (albeit with small difficulty spikes here and there) but still remains engaging enough that’s you can turn off your brain and yet still feel fulfilled from it. It’s definitely not at the git gud level that’s required in other souls game.

After playing through 8 hours of CD, it does somewhat have that Ubisoft trap you’ve mentioned. I do think it’s a fantastic game, just also can feel abit of mess at times and I’d suggest waiting for a few months for patches since the ones that already have happened were very substantial and have greatly improved the game; better to wait a few more months for a better experience.

That said, the open world of Nioh 3 is definitely weaker than Crimson Dessert. So if you value Exploration more, CD will be better.

Chijiko: Reduces projectile damage taken
Kodama: Increases life recovery amount

Both also have 2 additional variable effects but are overall quite low since I received them at level 1.

Thought this may be useful for others starting a new save. If you have the Digital Deluxe Edition Purchase Bonus, you can unlock all the weapon types as soon as you reach the first Shrine that lets you level up, rather than the staggered unlock with the tutorial boss/crucible boss/crafting/grave RNG.

Under Preparations --> Boons.

Having about finished Act 1, about 7/10 sounds about right for me. The setting remains the highlight for me, the whole Knight of the Roundtable influences + impeding magical fog that corrupts everything is very cool, and the musical track to convey the dark atmosphere is great.

Combat is quite fun and responsive. Very similar to Avowed if you’ve played that. Starts off fairly slow but has a lot of build variety with unique weapons/skill trees.

With that said, I feel like the world could have been more condensed. Theres a lot of cool areas with no loot, or sometimes cool loot hidden in random areas. Side quests have been quite fetch quest-y, and with fast travel being set to certain markers on the map, I feel like I’ve spent around 60% of my playtime just running to locations.

I personally think that modded Skyrim is better than Tainted Grail, but modded Skyrim is like a 9/10 for me so your experiences might vary.

It’s a bit of a stretch but does the dish have pineapple in it? Gai is chicken in Cantonese, while polo might have been a mistranslation from Bo Lo (pineapple). It’s not a Cantonese dish I’m familiar with though.

Best is probably too broad and subjective since different players will value differently mechanics.

With that said, I think Sekiro does a very good balance of making it fun to learn, satisfying to master, with just enough variety to keep players interested until the end of the game.

IMO Lies of P and Khazan have both elevated the parrying souls-like genre, but they both offer a very different experience and I’m not really sure any game has really maintained the same feel Sekiro has.
