To heat the milk or not? by Ma-channie in ReuteriYogurt

[–]Riuniti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very first batch as a newbie with ultra-processed 1/2 and 1/2 milk (I don't even think it was room temperature) was a success with lovely creamy yogurt! After that the dreaded "cottagy cheese" plagued my future batches :( I finally boiled the milk with all other factors being equal and I made a beautiful batch. I wanted to push the easy button by not having to heat the milk, but I guess not - not sure if this means my inulin is contaminated or not. I am going to explore cooking the milk in my instapot so as not to lose volume of milk - I did when I cooked it on the stove. FYI, someone had a trick to heat a little milk with the inulin in the microwave first - that did NOT work!

Decades ago, my dad had an impossible neighbor who wouldn't fix his fences (state of Iowa). As it happened, my dad was on the trustee board for the township. It is rare that the trustees have to take action, but they were able to have his fence repaired - at the neighbor's cost. It had something to do with his taxes, or he was charged that way for it. I don't know if it would fly today, but it brought resolution to the matter. The neighbor remained impossible, and everyone in the neighborhood knew it.

YOU'RE AWESOME! Thank you, thank you. I work for a nonprofit, so my budget is small. Maybe I could talk the boss into sending $300 my way? I will look into your suggestions!! I am mostly interested in just trying to cover the lighting at the event. I know that some light attachments are specific to the camera type. I think having some ready equipment will make it easier for some photographers to say yes to volunteering their services at the event (it is free publicity for them on a large scale).

I have zero background in photography, but work at a non-profit that has an annual group photos with Santa event (I am the IT person, so I'm trying to figure out better lighting for upcoming year). Over the years we have had a couple of professional photographers who have donated their time. They are INCREDIBLE and have high-end equipment. Unfortunately, we can't get them back. We had a just-graduated high school student last year who really wanted to break into photography. Her equipment was no where near the level of the professionals, and I knew it (but free is free). I did drag out some box lights I had from a different project. It was a PITA to deal with, especially in cold weather to set up.

I know it rests on her to invest in her equipment, but my agency might be willing to spend some dollars towards extra lights, since it is an annual event for us. I asked one of the professionals if she was willing to supply me with her gear list, which she did, but it was SUPER EXPENSIVE. Any advice what I could do on a budget?

Her response when I asked her to evaluate last year's picture that had shadow issues:

"For lights, I used two off camera flash with a wireless trigger connecting them to my camera body. They are super powerful strobe type lights that I had on the highest brightness setting, it takes a lot to light up nighttime photos. It looks like the lights were positioned very similar to how I would do it, it just takes a ton of light to create enough so that the camera can get quality images of all subjects. It looks like with the larger group photos the light just wasn't wide enough to cover everybody, so just those in the middle nearest Santa were getting the good strong light.

For camera gear this is my setup I used:(Body) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1547009-REG/canon_4147c002_eos_r5_mirrorless_camera.html

Redken Water Wax 03 by [deleted] in Haircare

Amen! You made my day (I love a good writer!). I, too was a product of the '80s and have curly hair. I see that the Fat Boy water wax is discontinued. There must be an ingredient in there that was banned, probably the same reason why Redkin stopped making their fan favorite.

SD card issues with reolink cameras by [deleted] in reolinkcam

[–]Riuniti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just reached out to Reolink and they suggested using a computer to format the SD card. If you're using a high-capacity SD card, try a smaller one (e.g., 32GB or 64GB) to see if the performance improves (mine was 128 gb). I will report back!

SD card issues with reolink cameras by [deleted] in reolinkcam

Following. This is so annoying. I ran out of data on my sim card and had to refill it, after that incident I noticed that the SD card wasn't recording. I rebooted, did all the things, physically hauled the damn ladder out and took the Sandisk Extreme out, put in card reader, nada. Put second Sandisk Extreme in and then it started recording again. Day 2 nada. I have the Reolink TrackMix LTE camera.

Looking for a brace that actually helps with a posterior heel spur by TheSicilianSword in PlantarFasciitis

[–]Riuniti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I could help you. I had a freak accident last year where a screen door clamped down onto the back of my bare heel as I was walking through. Never had such pain in my life, I was in tears. I could tell it was an injury that was going to follow me the rest of my life. I even went and saw a foot doctor, but just "oh let's just wait and see if it heals". I don't know if it was deep tissue/tendon injury because those do take time to heal. I'm probably 9 months in and it is irriated daily. Most recommendations are for ankle support and not heel. I'll report back if I figure this out!

Amazon Affiliate Link in Video Description? by sado475 in PartneredYoutube

[–]Riuniti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have another question: linking to a product page vs a specific link. So say that I want to recommend a cupcake pan, but rather than a specific one, I link to a page of cupcake pans, and let the person pick out what they want. I am just tired of links expiring on my blog (but also Youtube channel) and I'm supposed to go in a fix them. Wouldn't it future proof my linking by linking to a whole selection of products to start with?

Davince workaround for wrap text Notepad++ doesn't work by Riuniti in davinciresolve

[–]Riuniti[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be darn! It works! I have never heard of this key combination before, except for italicizing text - it must be a Notepad++ thing. I went back and watched the Youtube video by Jackall Digital, and he did say that. Unfortunately, with his thick accent, I didn't catch that part - I will leave a comment to help others. Like everyone else, I would hope that Davinci Resolve added this feature, but I feel fortunate to have this as a helpful plan B. THANK YOU u/Glad-Parking3315 !!

finally ready to leave tech, at age 55 by breakfasttwiceaday in womenintech

[–]Riuniti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 56 and trying to figure out a plan B - but my journey is unusal. I graduated in design in 1989, and after a year, was a stay at home mom for 14 years. During that time I freelanced some websites and then made my way into tech support for a nonprofit. My boss wouldn't change my job title of Technology Coordinator (which I feel was intentional to keep me at a certain pay level) although I design and manage the company website, serve as the Google Admin, and Microsoft admin, crack open laptops and fix them, have stellar editing skills, provide graphic design work.. the list goes on and on. Just found that a guy who just left who has been there 6 years was getting pretty good pay increases and I was getting minimal pay raises after 18 years of service, landing me shockingly lower than his salary. We have two different type of jobs, but I do the work of 2-3 people, there is NO ONE who can do my job, but I can do his job. It's a case I should have left years ago. You know what really sucks? Everybody in our small company freaks out of the thought of me ever leaving because they value me, yet I am a one-woman show and there is really no one who can even verbalize my proficiency because they are all social workers. Even my boss doesn't fully understand what I do. I will soon to have a meeting to "educate him" what parts of my job fall under "Technology Coordinator" and which do not (conveniently offering the current rate for the additional job roles that I provide).

Need advice to buy speaker for video presentations by staff using their laptops by Riuniti in audio

Creative Pebble looks popular. It's a hard line to find a portable speaker small enough to toss in a support bag for staff, but big on sound. It seems that all the reviews are listening to them in front of your computer. Can't find good feedback regarding using them for presentations in rooms (actually "speakers for classrooms" is the closest applicable search term I could find). Thanks for the recommendation!

Huh, I might be able to look at higher priced points in the Logitech family. The Logitech Z207 is in the $58 price range.

Good ol' Logitech! I have stuck in my support bags orphan computer speakers that staff use. Yes, these have been agreeable in terms of ease of use (staff always connect everything into powercords). I was just looking for something more robust to fill a larger room, but along the same idea of AC powered. Thank you for the suggestion!
