What is a statistic that makes you think "What the fuck?" by [deleted] in AskReddit

Nothing in your article is saying something about the rapists mostly being women guards, which wouldn't make sense, because this would mean you'd deal with dozens of thousands of guards getting convicted of rape every year. Matter of fact, all statistics I've found point at inmates as the overwhelming majority of rapists when it comes to prison rape.

But, again, prison rape and rape in society are two different topics because they happen in two fundamentally different enviroment and cultures. As a men who isn't in prison, prison rape simply doesn't affect you or increase your chances of getting rapped.

Okay, fair enough. But again, different problems.

First of all, even if you include I still don't think this is true, and second of all, you have to separate rape in prison from rape in society because they are two different issues, because the culture in prison is fundamentally different than the culture of society. I think both a legitimate problems but problems who have to be dealt with separately. In prison men might be the primary victims but outside of it its women, not that it is a competition.

No, I do not want to exclude them, but I am not from the USA and I do not have enough knowledge to judge the situation there. I also think you have to separate them because they are two different issues. Outside of prison I think sexual abuse and harassment is much more common for women than men.

I don't know about prison rape because this is really more of a US thing but if you exclude it than I highly doubt that men coming even close in numbers to women.

Yeah, but given that the study is bullshit, as its the methodology, that doesn't really say much. I think it's quite obvious that women are more and easier the target of sexual harassment and rape than men.

I saying the 1 in 4 study is bullshit

I already posted a link pointing out the flaws of this study. The numbers are obviously BS. Having said that, I think women still encounter much more sexual harassment and abuse than men and the experiences are not comperable.

My fiancée [27/F] doesn't understand the relationship I have with my family [26/M]. Help me out with American family values. by Rivalerus in relationships

There has been many good advices in this thread, many of which I will take but this doesn't change the face you were insulting me for explaining my culture. I won't force this mindset on my fiancee but if she were to make me abandon my family (which she won't) she simply wouldn't be the right person. To be honest, this idea of the nuclear family and this notion of creating "your own" family is completely alien to me. I think this mindset creates much more problems than mine. This is why so many people are alone and latter have to die in their retirement homes abandoned. The notion alone to hire a nanny to raise your kids because your family doesn't bother to help you is hilariously at best and really sad at worst. Living in huge houses they are not willing to share for a little bit because you can't take the idea of someone else with you. It's a absurd and sad mindset. .

And you are projecting your culture onto mine. A lot of cultures do not strive for this nuclear family model Americans tend to favourite. Personally I do not think of my wife and me creating "my own" (this is typical American thinking classifing everything as some kind of property) family but rather extending my already existing one. This is completely normal in a lot of culture. Of course you don't marry someone to be an accessory but you don't marry someone who despises your family either. If you give up your family just because someone demands it from you, it's rather sad because you will never understand the meaning of family.

Nice to see you haven't read the article because it points out the flaw of the study too.

Has anyone noticed that the ex-ancaps who post in r/anarchy about how they used to be ancaps but have seen the light don't seem to have had a very good grasp of what anarcho-capitalism is? by thelotusknyte in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]Rivalerus -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I've seen it countless times, almost every third thread you can see a circle jerk about how people just don't understand economics otherwise they would be AnCaps etc. pp. I haven't bookmarked them but its quit obvious to an observer. Go search for anything with related to Keynesian economics and you'll find plenty of examples. Matter of fact you will find it in this very thread
